Is Sennheiser HD555 Professional Headphones better than beats studio overear by dre?

l

dre costs about 300 dollars and I want to know which is better in terms of sound quality and noise cancellation.. I dont really care about the looks, but Im pretty picky about the sound quality. I found a good price for the HD555 which is about 125 dollars.

Answer
These Sennheiser 555s are indeed audiophile grade headphones. However, to me the bass on these headphones slightly overshadowes the rest of the sound spectrum. In other words, for my taste the bass is a bit too heavy. Although not muddy, the lower mid bass was at a level that I would ordinarily want it when drunk listening to Fleetwood Mac at full volume but not ideal for everyday listening. The bass is on the 555s is apparently optimized for young adults and others who ordinarily like their bass nice and extra heavy. The rest of the spectrum is beautiful.

These headphones are worth every penny.

Shure Professional Headphone or Monster Beats?

hollywoods

Shure Professional Headphone (SRH840) or monster beats studio? All I'm wondering about is what sound quality is better, or are they both equal? Also for Monster, is the solos sound quality the same as the studios? Thanks!

Answer
the Sure SRH840's are a pro monitoring headphone meaning they'll produce a more "true" sound than the Beats. this can be a great, great thing or very bad depending on the quality of the music you're playing through them.... you'd be surprised sometimes. Beats are considerably more expensive and have mad driving bass. if you're into that then go for it but i think when you're spending this kind of money you should try to personally test each headphone and make a decision based on your own opinions.
also, Beats require batteries so take that into consideration.

Is it okay to wear headphones during certain tests in school?

Pretty Boy

If so, why not? music relaxes me.

Answer
It depends on the school itself.
Generally, most schools will NOT allow it. This may be deemed as cheating if you do so. This is a test and a test will not allow any students to possess electronic devices etc. If you're really that desperate to relax yourself during a test in school, try other ways such as drawing a little before starting, highlighting (seeing more bright/fluorescent colours may make you feel relaxed) or even daydream a little BEFORE the start of the test. However, try not to feels stressed up during ANY tests. FOCUS!

Headphone jack not working?

Andrea W

I've never had problems with headphones on my computer till recently. I just reinstalled Windows and since then headphones won't work it just plays out of the speakers. I've tried multiple pairs of headphones and none will work. If I try to play media files from any program with headphones plugged in it just plays through the speakers but when I go to sound then headphones and properties in control panel and test the headphones they work. Why do they only work when I test the headphones?

Answer
Humm that sounds odd. is it a laptop or a desktop? Are you using the headphone ports on your speakers or on the computer? if on the computer are you using the front port's or the back ports? lol sorry to answer your question with questions. But if u email me with these answers maybe i can help u out further. but if not heres what i think

If its through the speakers head phone jack then you may have something wrong with them in witch case it may be an electrical short or so on, something i wouldnt know how to fix

If through your front ports on your computer, They go bad all the time due to bad wiring by the maker of the computer case it self. so try the back ports. The back ports are connected to the main component through the computer

If the back ports dont work on your computer means something has went wrong with your mother board and if its a dell, hp, mac and so on i would call about a warnty issue or something.

So please email me, Im sure i can figure it out

Looking for nice headphones anyone answer pls? My first question on Yahoo btw?

Epicwinman

I'm looking for high quality sound nice bass epic looking and cheaper then beats headphones that have soft cushions.

Answer
If REAL quality is an issue, please go for REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica, Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like V-Moda, Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish" indeed. Please do NOT fall a victim to FASHION ACCESSORIES by buying Sol/Republic/Revolution, Noontec Zoro's, Benetton, a-jays, iFrogz, Marley, Fanny Wang, Razer, Karl Kani, WESC, Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), BE THEM FAKE OR NOT!

Please do NOT go for overly thumping bass that distorts everything else, instead focus on good sound quality IN GENERAL.

RECORD OR TALK USING HEADPHONE AS MIC?

Wicked Tri

i wanna make videos for youtube. i have a headphones. is there any way i can use my headphones as a mic to record voice? i use camstudio. best answer goes to answer that actually works and has detail. also i use windows vista

Answer
Your headphones will work as a mic, however not very well at all. A mic can also play music, but it doesn't sound very good. Try your computers built-in mic (if it has one) or buy a cheap one at kmart, it will be better than the headphones. If you plug your headphones into a mic input, they will pick up audio, and you should be able to record as if it was a mic. I just don't recommend it.

Headphones working as a mic?

proft209

its crazy im recording and at the same time so are the headphones, so when i record with music on my editing program it sounds choppy distorted and just plain nasty, everythings pluggged into where its supposed to be ive troubleshooted, tried different headphones, even called technical support PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

Answer
Headphones and microphones are essentially the same thing in different directions. You'll have better luck for headphones to work as a microphone than to have a microphone reproducing sound. Perhaps you have the headphone and microphone in the wrong jacks. Try unplugging the microphone and putting the headphone into the jack where you just unplugged the microphone. If you can hear something through the phones without the microphone hooked up, then you may have the jacks wired wrong, or you may have mixed them up. Your microphone could become distorted if you plug it in to where your headphones are to be which is why I suggested leaving that unplugged. Other wise there may be some software or other issue that would need more information to help.

gift idea for my boyfriend?

freespirit

my boyfriend is passionate about music, he has turntables, 808drums, beats by dre headphones all that sorta stuff...idk what to get him! thats not too expensive!

Answer
If he's passionate about music I would suggest a good gift would be a portable HDD.
These days CD's are old news as most of our music is digital, so what could be better than a way to back up our old CD collection, but take it everywhere too?
I think he would probably get loads of pleasure from going through his old CD collection and hearing loads of old tracks from years ago that ha hadn't listened to because they are on CD's that have been just sitting on a shelf.

Another option would be an MP4 player. One of these would let him take music and movies (or TV shows) everywhere, and they can be a lot cheaper than iPods which are always expensive.
This is one that I resell in the UK:
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/the-bomb-8gb-mp6-player-with-43-inch-touchscreen-lcd/
For the cost, about $60, it is great - with a big touch screen and large enough capacity (16GB) for plenty of music and movies.

Guys always love gadgets anyway, so I'm sure whatever you get he will be happy with.
Good luck with buying your present!

Good durable cheap headphones?/ tips on how to make headphones last longer?

AznVienna

wat are some?
I just got new 1s a week ago and 1 side already broke so this time i want it to last longer

Answer
skull candy's are your best bet, bud! they are the best head phones i have ever had. they might have a store near you or just look for a kiosk in the mall. they are not very cheap headphones (mine cost $25), but they have a LIFETIME WARRANTY. if they get broken at all, no matter the reason, you just give them the broken pair and they will replace them, no questions asked. my sister crushed her buds in her car door three times and they replaced every single pair. you should get some for sure!!

Buying Headphones....?

Naquan

Hi. I have a new IPOD 30GB Video and I wanted to buy some headphone that could give me great bass as well as great quality. Now...I have a tendency of looking in the back of a headphone package to see it's specification...and i wanted to know the follow:

What does the following means:

-Frequency range (does the higher the number is the better?)
-Sensitivity (does the higher the number is the better?)
-Impedance (does the higher the number is the better?)
-Maximum Power Input (does the higher the number is the better?)

If theres anything else that I should be looking at when buying headphones, please include that to....THANKS

Answer
frequency range is the range of frequnces that its capable of generate them, human hear frequences of 20Hz to 20KHz so the headphone must be capable of generating sound in this range; no lower or higher frquencies are important because u wont hear them.

sensivity is sort of proportion of producing sound power on given electrical power to headphone so the more higher, the more good.

impedance is the alternative current resistance. its important to match the output impedance of ur ipod. not higher nor lower numbers are good. it just must be equal to the ipod's output impedance.

maximum input power is the wattage of the headphone. the higher number is good but not much higher than ur ipod's output power because its wasting money and also higher input power causes lower sensivity.

at last and the most important advice: just buy a good brand for high quality and longer lasting. like panasonic, sony, schniders... and the type of earbuds as they are small, light, block some enviromental noise that this cause to hear the music better and also they provide more bass because of closed air flow

getting the right headphones?

I have this problem with my laptop that when I plug in my earphones in makes a buzzing kind of noise.
Anyway I heard that there are some earphones that can cancel out those buzzing sounds, my question is do you know which type of headphones I should get?
thanks for reading :)

Answer
The buzzing sound is an impedance mismatch. Skipping all the boring electronics stuff, you want a headphone/earphone with a higher impedance and lower sensitivity. As a general rule, full-size headphones have higher impedance than portable headphones, which in turn have higher impedance than earbuds/in-ear earphones. I can recommend the Koss KSC75 or Koss PortaPro, which have 60 ohm impedance but there are many others. For earphones the HiFiMan RE0, Brainwavz M1, and Phonak earphones are known to have high impedance but I'm sure there are others with 32 ohms or more.

Best headphone brands with really good sound quality?

Why Hello

I've done my research and I've already heard that Beats, Skullcandy, and Bose aren't worth it. Instead, I've seen a lot of good reviews on Sennheiser, Grado, Denon, Shure, Audio Technica, etc, but I can't seem to decide from which brand I should buy over-the-ear headphones from. I don't really care too much about the price, as long as it's under $500. In your experience, which brand would you say is the best in delivering high-quality sound?

Thanks.

Answer
Just like loudspeakers all headphones have completely different sound quality's, so we cannot hear for you and its hard to hear every model as most headphones are not available for audition.

So our best bet is to go by reviews. This also is were it gets tricky as there are only a handful of audio specialist I would trust their opinions so choose your resources very carefully.

The best place to get good advice and reviews is Absolute Sound, and Stereophile. The reviewers are very knowledgeable, know good sound, and have years of experience. They also review the better headphones on the market. I will include a link to their sites, and Absolute sound also has some really good 'free" down-loadable user guides and reviews on headphones I think you will find very use full.

"but" before you run out and buy the best headphones you think are going to have the sound you want, understand the requirements of the headphones to get good sound. Most high quality headphones benefit largely from a good headphone amplifier. Granted on many headphones you can always add one down the line, but its important to know so you aren't to disappointed in the sound you get when you first get them.

Second is to understand the importance in the source material. Forget about playing Mp3's its a waist of time and will sound like crap on even the best headphones. You need to ether play cd's or high resolution music downloads, or even analog records.

Keep in mind if your wanting to use them with a ipod you can burn Cd's at full resolution onto itunes, which will give you cd quality music on your ipod.

As for brands and your price range, Absolutely Sennheiser are great I own a pair of HD650's which I think are excellent, and they can work directly with a ipod, you wont get really high volumes, but sound good. Sennheiser do sound better with a headphone amplifier as do most but they are not bad. They are a dat shy in the low bass in my opinion but the bass is very detailed and articulate. You might check out the HD600's they have alittle more punch in the bass certainly not as accurate in the bass and not as detailed but they might have more the sound your after.

There are many other brands you certainly want to look into, Hifiman, AKG, Grado's, Beyerdynamics,

My all time favorites are still the Stax but are very expensive and must be driven by a high quality headphone amplifier. The Hifiman are getting all the hot reviews right now but have no dealers so you have to buy direct.

Does anyone know good headphone brands or any good headphones?

I'm planning on getting headphones to listen to music at home. I know senheiser is a good brand but would you suggest any others?
Beats by Dre are cheap knock offs and so are other celebrity ones so don't suggest me those.
I want something with good sound quality and also between the price range of 200-500$

Answer

How to instal a headphone jack, so that the speaker is off when you plug your headphone in?

Adriaan

Im building a shortwave radio the conrad shortwave radio kit

Answer
Three ways.

For lower power (3W or less), you use an interrupter jack, where for each channel there is an input and output terminal and one ground for both. The speaker connects to the NC terminals and ground. When you plug headphones in, the contact mates with the plug and disconnects from the speaker.

For over 3W, you use an isolated switch, where there is an electrically isolated switch contact (or two), which are often double throw. With such a switch NC goes to speaker, common to amplifier out, and NO through a 150 ohm 1/4W resistor to the headphone contact for that channel. I used to see that arrangement in smaller stereo systems.

The third is pretty new. An isolated switch in the jack, or another sleeve terminal (which a normal headphone plug will short out), provides a logic signal which mutes the main speaker amp, unmutes the headphone amp.

Home Studio Recording... Computer & Recording Kit?

Hi,
I am a singer, guitarist & piano player & I would like to set up a little studio at home...

The Recording Set I'm looking at getting has:
1x iSK RF-2 Vocal Booth / Reflection Filter
1x iSK BM-700 Condenser Microphone
1x HP-580 Monitoring Headphones
1x iSK SPS014 Pop Filter
1x iSK ARF Vocal Booth Stand
1x Microphone XLR Cable - 5m

Is that okay just to start off with? It's $300 off Swamp Industries (If that helps)

ALSO What would be the best computer and software to use?
I was looking at a MacBook Air...& people say Audacity's good for recording?

If you have any other tips or ideas or other sets that'd be better please tell me!

Thankyou! :)
I have to buy an Ipad anyway for school next year, so could I even use that?

Answer
It's nice to get everything all at once. 8^)

I have a couple of things though. First of all, in the demo clips for the mic it actually sounds pretty bad! It looks like a good mic but it doesn't sound as good as it looks. You'd think the samples they put on the website to sell the thing they could get it to sound better. (In one sample, 'customer supplied' of a solo guitar it sounds very good! But not in the VOICE sample. And you're a singer, right?)

Second, if you plan to plug it into a computer, not a mixer or professional pre-amp, why are you getting an XLR connector? I mean where are you going to plug an XLR connector into your computer? Wouldn't it be better to get a USB mic if you're going to be recording on a computer with just one mic??

(You can get an XLR/USB converter, with the phantom power you need also, but that's more money! But you can get a USB mic. for about what this one costs. Look on EBay and you could get a good used one for half the money!)

Third, the mic comes with a wind/pop filter, so why are they selling you another one? (Or are they just mentioning it in the kit to make it look like something extra?)

Finally, you will also need some audio recording/editing/mixing software. Audacity will work great, and it's free, but there are other moderately-priced products out there that are better. Strange it wouldn't be included in his website selling all the other stuff you need. Plus when you get the microphone you'd wonder where you're supposed to plug in this strange three-prong plug. 8^)

Best price on bose noise cancelling headphones?

Jonathan

Which model has best price ? For bose noise cancelling headphone I mean.

Answer
Bose is a famous brand in noise cancelling headphone industry.

Bose QuietComfort 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones â Inside Out?
Good or Bad? Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones Review

The QuietComfort series are noise cancelling product lines from Bose. The best value I found is from amazon.com , for Bose QuietComfort 15, it is about $299. I think for noise cancelling headphone it is a good value.

You can check http://www.noise-cancelling-headphones-reviews.com/category/bose-noise-cancelling-headphones/ or http://bit.ly/9Vvwzp for bose reviews.

What is the difference between noise cancelling and sound isolatiing headphones?

pelican

I didn't think there is a difference but apparently there is since it is separated like this on the Best Buy website.

Answer
Isolating headphones use large earcups and foam pads to seal out noise from outside, without affecting the signal coming into the earphones. Noise cancelling headphones use mics to sense the noise around you and apply a signal opposite to the external noise to cancel it out. If you don't mind bigger heavier 'phones you get the same effect and a musical signal purer and closer to the original music with a sound isolating set. This is why recording studios generally wouldn't use a cancelling style of 'phone. If you like smaller, lighter phones but still want to hear your tunes in noisy environments, then the noise cancelling units are the way to go.

I got new headphones, how do I make it sound better?

Erick

I got a pair of ZX Series Stereo Headphones MDR-ZX700, My friend told me that if I want to make the quality better I have to go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, and then I'm supposed to see my headphones marked as Independent Audio. I noticed that my headphones are marked as Speakers. I then click on that and go to Advanced; I changed the quality to 24 bit,192000 Hz. It sounds much better, but when I unplug my headphones and use them on my iPod Touch 4g, the quality isn't as great. My friend has Studio Monitor Series Headphones MDR-V6 and they sound equally amazing on his iPod and his computer. Please help.

Answer
Go to the music settings on your iPod and change the equalizer. If you want to hear everything like singing and great bass at the same time, use acoustic, that's my favorite. Hip hop is the best for just bass, bass booster makes it sound muzzled. Just mess around with the different equalizers. It'll keep you entertained for a while.

Speakers still working while headphones are plugged in?

Headphone jack may be dirty and fail to disconnect speakers. (or connection to headphone jack is not good or plugged in completely)
clean out jack with compressed air or a very small spritz of tuner cleaner

Is iHome a good brand to buy headphones?

Mika

I am looking for headphones to buy my little sister for Christmas, she is always listening to music and recently broke her headset. She likes this Jack Skellington Headset from HotTopic.

Has anyone brought these or any iHome Over-the-Ear headphones? How did you like them?

What is a good website to buy cute Over-the-Ear headphones?

Any help is appreciated. :)

Jack Skellington Headphones Link:
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Music/MusicAccessories//The+Nightmare+Before+Christmas+Headphones-303040.jsp

Answer
It's not always about the brand name. In my many years of being an audiophile, I've come to realize that the manufacturers of headphones don't matter as much as the driver unit/build quality. Those are the ihome ib40's. They feature a 40 mm driver that puts out an okay mid-range, has OK bass, really...OK everything. Nothing is spectacular and they are flat sounding for the most part. Treble is soft. They aren't terrible headphones, but for 40 dollars you could get better. You have to make a decision here. In my opinion, she would appreciate the Jack Skelligton headphones because she obviously is a fan.

As well, ask her what format of audio she uses. That being MP3, flac. Wav. etc. If she listens to Mp3's a good pair of headphones are a waste unless they are encoded at 320 kbps at the standard 16 bit. If you want a good headphone recommendation, ask me. I listen to 32 bit wav. files. That is the highest resolution.

Bose headphones vs beats?

Bob

I'm thinking about buying a nice pair of headphones, I really like the BOSE AE2 headphones but everyone says beats are better. And people that say that beats are just made to look nice but music quality sucks. What should I get?

BOSE AE2- $150
Beats HSU Solo- $199
BOSE QuietComfort3 Acoustic- $349
Beats Studio- $350

Which ones should i get? I can get any of these but i want some good opinions.

Answer
Beats are not better. Whoever says beats are better must have never actually tried both beats and bose.

Bose is better by far. Beats are just made to look nice, and to capitalize off of that "by dr. dre" thing.

Get. Bose. Amazing sound fidelity.

Besides, Bose is cheaper.

Good Alternative headphone to Beats?

Justin

Need to buy a good pair of full ear covering headphones. I know Beats sell good, but i'm positive they're not worth the price. I'm sure someone has other headphones that work just as well and cost a fraction of the price.

Looking to use them mostly in libraries while studying and doing school work so something that doesn't leak much would be best! Will take all opinions into consideration, thanks!

Answer
You are 100% correct about Beats (and Bose and Skullcandy). The quality doesn't justify the price.
The most popular (good) consumer style headphone is the Ath-M50. Also consider MDR-V6, HD201, or SRH-440.
I will point out that open back headphones generally sound better, but they leak worse than the Titanic which you said you don't want.
I only mentioned a few options; for more look to the links below.

How can I plug headphones into a PS3?

Wally West

Is there a way to plug some regular 3.5mm jack headphones into my ps3. I was told that the HDMI to DVI cable won't bring sound to my monitor so there is no other choice than just to plug my headphones into the ps3. Just want to know if there is any way possible to do this. I don't like the bluetooth because it's just 1 hear I like the headphones with 2 ears so I can hear surround sound without a sound system.

You can use headphones with ps3 but you will get
low level sound, meaning it will sound low because you
can't adgust the volume .But I have a fix for this.

3.you will need 2 jacks

this is what I did and you can use any wired headphone for the ps3

Best headphones for ps3 ?

The

Answer
best depends on the buyer , what's comfortable , affordable and sounds best , and the ps3 does not actually use headphones ( those are for audio only ) , the ps3 uses a headset ( includes a mic for voice chat )

I prefer to use the sony wireless stereo headset ( also available in the pulse model ) because it's the cheapest wireless stereo headset you can buy and sounds pretty good for a cheap $99 headset .
the other main brands are tritton ( maybe the best but also the most expensive at $269 and up for their wireless models ) and turtle beach which are affordable but also wired so you have to sit closer to the console and the wired ones are hard to connect and set up properly

these stereo headsets are nice because they put the game audio and voice chat to the headset but in use they do not allow any sound from the tv so are not usable in some circumstances .
you can also use pretty much any usb mono headset ( one earpiece and a mic ) or any bluetooth headset , the best bluetooth would have to be the sony official ps3 headset , great sound and automatic synch .

Headphone Sound Control?

Jazzy

I plugged my headphones (not the ear plug things) into my iPod, and I was watching some youtube clips. I noticed that music played perfectly, but whenever it came to speech it was very feint and sounded like someone was in a fishbowl. My friend recommended I go and change the sound equalizers, and when he did that for me, it played vocals fine, but no music. Frustratingly, I tried them on my computer. When I went on Battlefield I could only hear the others shoot, and not me which was incredibly annoying. I got off and the sound for music is absolutely perfect again. So I decided to try the sound control. Everything is set, it just sounds like the voices are on a really old telly or in a fish tank! Help please?
New Development - When i tried to listen to some more music it now sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks...

Answer
Sounds to me like this is a simple case of poor frequency response.

Basically, it sounds like you are getting good treble and probably good bass, but mid-range is lacking. Mid-range is where the majority of vocal frequencies reside. If your headphones aren't representing these frequencies well enough, they will be low and dull. The only real option is to get better headphones.

Recording vocals in FL studio?

When you record vocals in FL studio, how do you keep it from catching the beat so that it only records the vocals

Answer
Use headphones for playback instead of speakers so that the beat and whatever is playing will not picked up by the mic while you record vocals.

Bose or Sennheiser Over-Ear Headphones $150 and under?

Josh

I'm looking for a really good pair of over-ear headphones and I don't want to spend more than $150. Should I get Bose or Sennheiser?

If Bose, which ones would be best for around $150?

I have recently found out that Sennheiser headphones actually tend to be better than Bose.

So, I leave it up to you to help me decide on a pair of over-ear headphones.
By the way, I don't mind the price of Bose, that's what happens with popular brands, especially when they make good products. I don't care if Bose are said to be "overpriced and overrated", especially since Dr. Dre Beats fit that description even more.

Also, please refrain from needless Bose bashing, it's exceedingly annoying and gets us nowhere.
I meant to say "around ear" instead of "over ear". I'm sorry about that confusion.

Of the Bose headphones I'm considering the AE2 headphones.

Answer
Hey Josh,

Yes, Sennheiser is generally known as a more prestigious and reputable audio company than bose, contrary to popular belief.

However, when we are talking about headphones under $150 dollars (and I assume you are looking for best quality and value here), I must reccomend you check out some of Audio-Technica's headphones, especially the ATH-M50's (which I'll get in to later).

Audio Technica is another prestigious audio company that truly has (in my experience), the greatest quality and value in headphones today.

I think the ATH M50's would be perfect for you because not only are they within your budget (they are about $140 dollars, I'll post a link at the bottom), they also are a FANTASTIC pair of over-ear headphones that have tremendous audio quality and sound; great frequency response, great sound distinguishing, virtually no distortion, large drivers, and they are great for people who take audio seriously.

You can check out some reviews of the ATH M50's on youtube and other 3rd party sites if you have some concerns with what a random guy (me) on yahoo answers is telling you. These headphones are a huge hit with audio enthusiasts and truly are fantastic.

Headphones with music on max volume?

Vi

I recently got the Sony MDR-XB400 Extra Bass headphones, and just want to know... if i listen to music on max volume and bass boost will the headphones be affected?

I'm asking because they aren't expensive. Thanks

Answer
Headphones can't handle 'max volume' from just any device...

Different equipment is rated at different levels...yes, if you are using powerful audio equipment you will damage (ruin) your headphones...

I'm more concerned about your hearing...you might be able to afford a new set of headphones...just do some research on the medical condition 'Tinnitus' before giving the volume control its next twist.

You are expected to use some 'common sense' while using headphones and use them at sensible listening levels.

Headphone slot to music converter?

Dustin

I am getting a car in a few days and it only has a slot for headphones and not a usb port. I am wondering if there is a device that you could possibly plug into the headphones slot then plug into an ipod and be able to listen to your ipod music through the radio. And if so where could i buy one?

Answer
Is it a headphone out plug or a headphone in plug? If it is a headphone in the to play your ipod through the car you don't need a usb to headphone adapter. All you need is an auxiliary cable. You can buy them online for dirt cheap. If it is a headphone out then you can get a device that you plug in to the cigarette lighter. You plug your ipod in to it and it finds a radio station that is not being used and plays your music over the unused channel. Mind you these devices are <$35 and don't always work the best.

I have had trouble trying to find good headphones that do not break. I havent been able to find any yet, but this is what I am looking for.

1) Good base
2) Somewhat low priced
3) Good Durability
4) Good Sound quality
5) I like the volume to go up pretty high
6) Around the head
7) decent noise cancelation

What Should I get?

Answer
Walgreen's drug store sells Sony headphones for around $10.00 and another set, also Sony, for about $20.00. Both sound good, but the $20.00 pair are built sturdier, and can handle high volume. The $10.00 pair sound as good as anything I have purchased at Radio Shack. Both are around the head sets. I hate those individual ear headphones. Good Luck!

top review monster headphones ?

hsky

i was wondering was the best headphone for iphone 4 by monster or bose?

Answer
I would guess neither. The "best" (whatever that means) headphones at most price points would probably be from a company such as Grado, Shure, Sennheiser etc. Monster and Bose make headphones that are average, at best. People who care about sound quality recognize that Bose are regarded as good simply because they spend a lot of money on advertising, whereas Monster rely on celebrity endorsements to give their products a bit of "street cred".

To find out what headphones are really the best, check out some of the reviews on the headphone fanatic site, http://www.head-fi.org . The guys there are passionate about their sound and have reviewed almost every headphone available. At every price point you will find a few headphones that keep coming up as being the best. They won't include Bose or Monster Beats.

Answer
Hey, J90

There are a wide range of headphones available on the market at the moment, and for the most part, the quality of the craftmanship and sound will depend on the price that you are willing to spend. In the lower price range (less than $50), you will be able to find some no too shabby headphones that will be perfect for somebody that is just looking to listen to music on their iPod or computer, and are not full-on audiophiles. Once you get to the medium price range ($50-150), you will get a good selection of amazing quality headphones that would be perfect for nearly everyone that is not involved with music professionally. The sound quality of these headphones will be suberb, should block out nearly all background noise, and are going to be of a quality craftmanship that will last for quite a long time. On the more expensive side of things ($150 and up), you are going to get into professional quality headphones. For the normal person this will be a bit too much as they provide a quality of sound that is unmatched, but is most often only sought after by professionals working on their own music (or the type of consumers who make sure that their house is hooked up with the best speaker systems on the market).

Depending on how much you are willing to spend, my top five choices (from cheapest to most expensive) would be:

Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-hd-202-ii-professional/

This model provides good insulation against background noise and has a solid bass range and response time. Perfect for somebody wanting a cheap set of quality headphones.

Sennheiser RS120

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-rs120/

These are quite affordable for wireless headphones. They have an open-ear system with a strong bass response. Because they are wireless, you don't even have to be in the same room as the device that is transmitting the sound, giving you ultimate flexibility while listening to music. Very lightweight and a high quality. I have this set for using around my condo.

Sennheiser HD280 Professional

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-hd-280-pro/

These are well into the midrange quality headphones. This set is corded, but provides a much better sound quality than the RS120. They provide up to 32 dB attenuation of outside noise, so you do not need to worry about much from background noise, even in somewhat noisy environments.

Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/beats-by-dr-dre-solo-hd/

These are on the high-end of the spectrum of headphones. They are quite comfortable and are able to produce an amazing sound quality. If you're looking for something that is "in-style" and provides some of the best sound quality that you can find at this price range, then these are the headphones for you.

Bose Quietcomfort 15

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/bose-quietcomfort-15/

I use this set when I'm playing live shows. They are some of the best headphones you can get right now, are very comfortable while wearing for many hours at a time (even in hot, sweaty clubs), block out most background noise and provide nearly unmatched sound quality. For somebody looking for professional quality headphones, or with a big budget for the best money can buy, then these are the headphones for you.

The most important thing while choosing the headphones, is the consider what you will be using them for and do not over estimate how much quality you actually need. If you're looking for something to use to and from school or just while you're hanging out, listening to music, you probably do not need top of the line Bose. Good luck, J90, and I hope you find the perfect set!

Which one gives more damage to your ears: Headphone or Earphone(Earbuds)?

IL0V3P1G5

I was thinking of buying a Headphone or Earphone and i don't want to damage my ear.

Answer
Headphones can damage your ear just as much as earphones. The reason being is because headphones are generally made for best sound quality with nice bass reflexes if you buy a nice pair of headphones for 200-300 dollars. Earphones will also damage your ears, anything you put right next to your ear and play at high volume expect some sort of damage! If you're going to be using this for movies and you play it on medium volume you'll be fine. You just got to remember any product will damage your ears if you play it at high volume and get carried away with it. It's like people think they're cool blaring music into their ears at 70dbs directly into their ear. They're not they're just doing damage. So just remember its not the product that will cause the damage it's the consumer, if the consumer uses the product responsibly then you wont damage your ears!!

advantages of in ear monitor headphones?

Admiral Aw

what are the advantages/disadvantages of in ear headphones compared to earbuds?

Answer
The most obvious is isolation from external noise. While cheaper ones offer isolation comparable to closed on-ear headphones (which is still much better than what conventional earbuds are capable of), pricier sets offer isolation better than that of Active Noice Cancelling (ANC) headphones without the audio artifacts introduced by ANC technology. More isolation means you are left alone with your music, which means you get a better listening experience. It also means that you don't have to turn up the volume to hear your music when external noise is present. Lower volumes prevent hearing loss (which is worth the price of admission to the in-ear world in and of itself).

There's more technical advantages, too - a closed-ear coupling means that manufacturers can use lower-output driver units, including Balanced Armatures (a transducer design commonly used in hearing aids). As a general rule Armatures offer great accuracy and clarity at the expense of output levels. An in-ear coupling also allows for a more tactile translation of bass from the earphone to the ear - with a few exceptions the bass from conventional earbuds is heard but not necessarily felt, which results in manufacturers trying to crank up bass to ridiculous levels and creating 'fart cannons' in the process.

Disadvantages - you do have to clean the tips once in a while, especially foam ones, or they will get gross. Simply rinsing them with soap & warm water once a month works. For foam tips hydrogen peroxide may be necessary (and they'll have to be replaced eventually anyway). Some pricier sets include replaceable filters as well to protect the earphones from your earwax. Those may need to be replaced as suggested by the manufacturer.

Isolation can also be a disadvantage if it leads to you endangering yourself or others (i.e. using them while biking, lifting weights in a crowded gym, etc. etc).

Lastly, a closed-ear coupling introduced a phenomenon called 'cord contact noise', commonly known as 'microphonics'. Microphonics are a result of solid audio conductance and manifest as a scratching or bumping noise that you will hear in your earphones when something hits or rubs against the cable (clothing, furniture, etc). You can see an example of solid conductance if you put your ear to the table and then knock on the tabletop a few feet away - the noise will be much louder than if the sound travels through air to reach your ear. Microphonics are worse in some in-ear earphones than others but as a general rule they simply come with the territory.

My husband wants headphones for his electric guitar or amp or something. Can any headphones work? What are the best? How much do they usually run? Where can I buy them at?

Answer
Ok. You can get anykind of headphones that you want as long as you get an adapter for the 1/8 inch jacks to the standard 1/4 inch guitar jack. If you have no idea what i just said, Write this down, go to a radio shack (Or some other electronics store) and tell them that you want a 1/8 in. to a 1/4 in adapter. Here is a picture of one...It's the big one on top.

I Did this instead of having to buy specialty headphones so i can use them for both music and guitar. if you already have a good pair of headphones, just use those. if you don't go here...

headphones for an electric guitar?

Do such things exist? Will I really need to buy a mini amp or w/e? I'm going to be heading to college, and I don't want to disturb anybody, but I still want to bring my electric guitar. So, I really don't need the headphones in the first place, but if I want to mess around with my keyboard at a later time w/o disturbing anybody, they'd be helpful.
So, any products out there that can just plug into the out-put of most electrical instruments?

In the lower price range (less than $50), you will be able to find some fairly decent headphones that will be suitable for someone that is just aiming to listen to music on their iPod or computer, and are not full fledged audiophiles. Depends on the quality and make of the headphones. Some makes do supply spare parts (check with manufacturer) and some use "universal" replacements.
To be honest, unless the headphones were VERY expensive, it's probably going to be easiest and cheapest to buy a new set!

Help choosing earbuds/headphones?

Eric

I am considering three models around the $100 range.

1. Bose in-ear
2. V-Moda Vibe
3. Shure SE110 Sound Isolating

I like the Bose brand and have had good experience with their speakers in the past, but am concerned that they may not be the best value.

I'm not too sure about V-Moda's styling or their reliability. Most people seem to like their quality though.

With the Shure, I'm not into the cord-around-ear configuration for wearing them, but most reviews think that they're a good value.

Any input or experiences?

Answer
In fact it currently only has one pair of headphones in this sector - the Bose in-ear headphones - and these represent a pretty an odd way of dipping the corporate toe into these highly competitive waters. I say odd because, while virtually every other manufacturer has focused on noise canceling canal phones of late, Bose's newest headphones are, in fact earbuds. Not in the traditional sense - they do have silicone rubber tips that extend inside your ear canal - but they don't create an airtight seal. The main body of the silicone rubber tips actually sit outside the ear canal and the result is that, though slightly more effective than a standard pair of iPod-style earbuds, they don't cut out external noise to any great degree.

This is clearly a pair of headphones designed to turn heads, though. Rather than plain black cables, they're decked out with rather fetching stripy black-and-white wires. These cables are also thick and feel well up to being trapped in your jacket zip a few times, while the joints at each end are similarly well put together. Other nice touches include a 3.5mm jack skinny enough to fit the iPhone's headphone port directly, and a decent range of accessories. In the box is a rectangular soft case with enough room to stow headphones plus a small MP3 player, a clothing clip to keep the wires from tugging at your ears, and a lanyard that allows you to hang the phones around your neck when you're not listening to music.

Now enjoy high-quality in-ear headphonesâ engineered and developed by the most respected name in sound. BOSE® in-ear headphones are the only in-ear headphones with the rich audio and comfortable design you've come to expect from Bose.
A new standard for in-ear headphones

Hear your music with more range, realism and clarity than with most conventional ear buds. Bose research and engineering are at the core of the acclaimed performance of BOSE® in-ear headphones. That includes our proprietary TriPort® acoustic headphone structure for greater output of low notes from a small headphone.

Better sound, better fit

BOSE® in-ear headphones are designed to be worn comfortably for extended periods of time. Many people experience discomfort from traditional ear buds, but our engineers have developed innovative, soft silicone tips shaped to rest easily in the outer bowls of your ears, not in the pressure-sensitive ear canals.

Tips come in three sizes for a more personal fit. You may find using a different size tip for each ear the most comfortable option. The headphones also come with a lanyard and clip for enhanced stability when you're on the move.

Better on the go

BOSE® in-ear headphones are engineered specifically for use with laptops, MP3 players and CD players. The audio cable's 3.5mm angled plug also fits directly into Apple iPhone⢠and other sources with recessed headphone jacks. And the headphones come with a sleek, protective carrying case âwith enough extra room for a portable MP3 player.

Many people's first experience of 'proper' noise cancelling headphones will have come courtesy of a pair of Bose cans, supplied to cancel out the hum of aeroplane engines in business class. Bose has been involved in the technology for some years now and seems to have the airline business well and truly sewn up. I've also seen its earbuds bundled with some MP3 players: the Samsung T10 for instance has a decent pair of Bose phones included. But strangely it hasn't yet gone for the biggest growing sector of the headphone market - in-ear headphones - in a particularly big way.

Pros: ; Brilliant sound quality, Great bass output, Good design, Comes with a neat leather case.
Cons: ; No noise cancellation, Silicon earplugs often come off, Gathers lots of dust, Expensive.

When my kids cry, I feel like quitting?

Chucky

Hi all, this might sound weird and you may wonder why I'm asking you but I'm just going to ask. I have a 16 month old girl and a 3 month old son, when they cry I feel stressed, hate the sound of the screams, I have to walk out and leave the mother with the kids. I'm 21 & married. I don't like slow or Jazz music so relaxing music wont help. I would just like some ides on how to ignore it or block it out. Please, don't bother replying back saying "grow up", "just deal with it" or any other immature comments. Just want advice, not everyone is perfect =)

Thanks in advance, Chucky.
Artie Lange Fan, shut the hell up. You're too immature to even be on Yahoo. Did you not read the "no immature comments" bit or are you retarded?

Answer
Use headphones when they cry, and try consoling them then,

Kids actually don't cry much when you give them all your attention for a feasible time, just a little bit of your care could let you avoid this uncomfortableness, do it with all your might and love.

Slowly you will learn to be patient, I appreciate your gut of commitment, being a 27 years old male, i fear about life after having kids...

but i am pretty sure that you must be having your good time with them too.

Make them smile, turn their attention, just the matter of bit time...

You are great, all the best with your patience.

Question about headphones?

Q. I'm going to put this out there and probably offend a few audiophiles while doing it.... I own an iPod. I'm going to further offend them by saying that when I rip my CDs to iTunes, I do not usually rip it to it's full potential, by this I mean I do not usually use lossless encoding, but rather around the 300kbps area. In the 250-350 kbps area, do better headphones improve sound quality (or at least not take away from it) or will I not notice a difference. If you do think I should get better headphones, could you recommend a brand or model, I know Sennheiser has a good reputation, and people say good things about their headphones.

Audio Technica ATH-M50 are the best headphones you can buy that wont leave you homeless. but you'll need a portable headphone amp, otherwise it's like driving a car with a lawnmower engine. i recommend a Fiio E6, very small yet effective. keep it on the "blue" setting though, the red setting makes the bass muddy and the purple setting is for high wattage stuff and will just kill your volume if you use it with an ipod.

Just a few questions.

1. How good is the quality for its price? I have watched a few reviews and they say this is one of the best headphones that's on the market. How accurate is that statement? I'm not very knowledgeable about audio. I'm at an intermediate level, but I know all the fundamentals. So anything you could tell me on what makes these such good headphones would be great.

2. How loud is the sound to those who don't have the headphones on? Let's say, if I were to record some vocals, and I have a beat/instrumental playing over while I record. Will the mic pick it up? I use a studio mic, which was around $395 AUD if I remember correctly, but the setup is not very "studio" like. Please be very specific because this part is crucial.

3. How long is the cable?

4. What's the purpose for that 'telephone cord'-like part of the cable?

5. Strength and durability?

6. Is it necessary to have a good sound card? I use a pre-amp...

Thank you

Be smart. Check out Grado Labs headphones. Made in America and ranging in price from $50-$1600. Do a thorough research. Go to the audiophile forums. The buzz about Grado cans is alive and well. They make by far the best headphones in the world.

I have Grado SR225i model and I paid $269 for them 4 years ago. Now, you can find them for $200 in the states. No doubt in my mind that these are the best I've ever heard and I've heard many. Nobody comes even close to the sound of Grado headphones. Buy them once and love them forever.

They need some power to get the most out of them. A decent DAC converter on a sound card or built-in in a headphone amplifier and file quality matter as well, but they are totally worth it. About 100 hours of burn-in time is essential when they are new because they need some time to settle down with high frequencies.
