30 dollar headphones?

Sequoyah

I am looking for the best headphones for music for around 30 dollars. Must be sturdy in construction and have at least decent sound. I could care less about looks.
I am specifically looking for around the ear (Padding not directly on the ear)

Answer
If REAL quality is an issue, please go for REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica (NOT to be mixed with Technic which is utter rubbish as well!), Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like V-Moda, Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish" indeed. Please do NOT fall a victim to FASHION ACCESSORIES by buying Boombox, Ministry of Sound, Sol/Republic/Revolution, Noontec Zoro's, Benetton, a-jays, iFrogz, Marley, Fanny Wang, Razer, Karl Kani, WESC, Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), BE THEM FAKE OR NOT!

Also, please do NOT go for the overly thumping bass that only distorts everything else, focus on GOOD sound quality and durability IN GENERAL.

Cheap Surround Sound Headphones?

Dan

Any one know if there's a good quality surround sound headphone set for cheap? Not virtual surround sound though. Looking to spend $30-$100. [=

Answer
Technically, all surround sound headphones are "virtual" surround sound headphones. The word "virtual" meaning that the sound isn't actually coming from several surrounding locations, but is perceived as such.

Think about it. A surround sound system's most used speaker is the center (front) channel. But it's impossible to actually have a center channel speaker when it comes to headphones, so they have to design a way to give the listener the perception of having a center channel speaker. This is where the "virtual" comes in.

So don't get too wrapped up in the technicalities of marketing, because there is really no such thing as true surround sound headphones.

But to answer your question, I has quite impressed with these Logitech headphones.

IS a DAC what I need for this situation?

Getting ti

There is no stereo plug for my headphones but there is an Digital Optical plug (on my TV) so would a DAC fix this problem?
Thank you very much (ba definitely goes to you), but do you think the sound will still remain as crisp and clear as the TV speakers?

Answer
If DAC means Digital to analog converter, no you need more than that.

There are s/pdif to analog PCM converters, but at $150 you are better off investing on an a/v receiver.

So, get an AV receiver with digital optical input and a headphone output.

Connecting headphones to tv?

Brittany

I have a 42" Sanyo HDTV, model DP42841 and a pair of decent headphones. I want to hook up my heaphones to my tv, but I'm not sure how. I have an audio jack, but when I put my heaphones into it nothing happens. Do I need to change the sound settings on the tv, or get additional equipment to make it work...?

As a side note, I do not have a remote controller because my dog devoured it months ago. If I do need to change the settings I wouldn't be able to from a remote and would love it if you could tell me how from the tv controls directly. Best answer to anyone who can help me??

THANK YOU so much!

Answer
To use headphones, it depends on what the TV has for outputs.
If it has analog stereo, you need a headphone amplifier with RCA input. If your TV has only digital out, you need an audio DAC as well.

Good headphones for under $60?

Saranya T

Does anyone know of any good headphones I can get for under $60? I want headphones, not ear clips or earbuds.

I mostly listen to alternative rock.

Oh, and I live in Sydney, Australia, so preferably a shop in Sydney. Or the internet, I guess, but I'd prefer an actual shop.

And I'd prefer closed headphones, unless anyone knows of really good open ones.
And where the hell can you FIND skullcandy headphones in Australia? I've been looking for the Hesh ones for a while, but haven't found any. And their website only ships to the US.

Answer
I like really expensive headphones, but I'm broke right now.

So for about 40 US Dollars, I bought the Sony MDR-v150... has a pretty full sound and can take the volume very well too.

Decent in ear headphones under £60?

cricket 46

Hey guys, anyone know any in ear headphones that sound good for under £60 (i dont mind if they are used or new) that five clear sound quality and good bass. Thanks

Answer
Sennheiser HD 448 is padded, and the padding around the ears is very comfortable - something that not all headphone manufacturers are able to achieve. The cord goes into just one side, rather than splitting to go into both, and this makes taking them on or off a lot easier.

How are the Tritton AXPro 5.1 gaming headphones?

joe j

I want to know if you can connect them to the tv and hear sound for yourself and if the speakers on the tv will continue to make noise?

Answer
It depends on the TV you are using, and what outputs the TV has. Most newer TVs will allow you to output audio through either Digital TOSLINK or standard RCA composite outputs. Once you connect the headphones to your TV, there will be no sound coming out of the TV speakers.

If your TV has TOSLINK output, it will definitely work with the AX Pro headphones since they have digital audio output.

For more info, check out the review of the Tritton AX Pro headphones listed below.

Will 5.1 headphone work like 5.1 Speakers in terms of Amplification?

Mina Cross

I want to get a headphone that can amplify sound output because i do not want to disturb anyone in my building

Answer
Its relative. If you strap your speakers to your head you wont need to turn the volume up as loud.

5.1 headphones are just a virtual simulation of true 5.1 using circuitry.

If you need more volume than what your amp can output to headphones, which I doubt very much as you ears will last about a week before they die with the sound all the way up then you can buy a headphone amplifier which will give further power output than what a standard amp/receiver headphone jack will output. Which will increase the possibility you will blow your headphones up if you dont burst your eardrums first.

Looking for reasonably priced wireless headphones?

Intrepyd

I'm looking for wireless headphones for use with PC. The only feature I care about is the wireless. Fidelity of sound and quality of construction aren't important. On my first searches, I could only find very expensive headphones over $100. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
I'm not listening to music with these headphones, so quality is not important. I'm using them for monitoring radio chatter, which is AM-quality to begin with. Cheap as can be!

Answer
You have a strange philosophy, "Fidelity of sound and quality of construction aren't important." Those are two hallmark features of headphones right there. I wouldn't buy something that didn't sound anything less than perfect. Anyway... yeah... I'm just shuttering here at the fact quality of sound is unimportant, give me a second to recover from shock (I'm just joking with you) but you'd probably faint if you knew how much I have paid for my current collection of headphones.

So, anyway, the cheapest I could find was this Panasonic set at $62, http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/search/search__cat_id--11560000,nwylf--,prod_id--251478725,sort--6.html and they got an okay rating at Cnet, http://reviews.cnet.com/Panasonic_RP_WF930_S/4505-6468_7-31214939.html?tag=pdtl-list they're not great but okay. I certainly wouldn't go ANY cheaper.

Ahhhh, point taken, okay, cheap cheap cheap it is. A quick search on Bizrate turned up a refurbished pair of the Sony MDR-RF960RK (that's a mouthfull) headphones available for $36 from eCost (closeout deal), http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=495873&store=ecost&source=ECOSTBIZRATE&srccode=cii_10043468&cpncode=11-6949134-2&adcampaign=email,ECOSTBIZRATE they retail for $90 in case you were wondering.

Does anyone have a pair of sennheiser HD800 headphones?

Ben

Ive been saving up for new headphones for about $400, but i thought these might be worth the extra month of work. So does anybody have a pair? are they really perfection, and the best headphones one can get?

Answer
Plenty of people have the HD800's. They were sold out everywhere for the first few months after they came out. There's an HD800 owners list on head-fi.org. Keep in mind that high-end headphone need high-end equipment to go with them. That means a good source (external DAC or the like) and a powerful amp. As a rule of thumb, for high-end systems, headphones should be 1/4-1/3 the price of the overall setup, so expect to shell out $5000 to get the most out of the HD800s.

If that doesn't seem like something you can afford, it is better to get a complete setup with a less expensive headphone for the same amount of money as an HD800. HD600/650/580 are still very popular, as are high-end models by Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica, and others.

Headphone Amp buzzing noise?

Thomas

I recently purchased a fiio E9 headphone amplifier, to increase the volume for my desktop PC/headphones. There is a buzzing noise in the background. Whenever I scroll up/down a webpage it sounds like - electricity.

I read about ground-loop problems. There is a issue with the PC itself where it turns itself off when physically tampered with sometimes. (just unplug a cable and it shuts off sometimes).

Is it possible I there's an issue with the PC's grounding? Is the sound card the problem? Do i need to pay $80 to add the E7's DAC/USB to the E9?

I'm using the integrated sound card on a Asus M4A89GTD PRO. (ALC 892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC w/ Asus Noise filter)

Answer
Install the new headphone or reinstall the specs...

Good luck!

Is there any benefit of getting a PC Sound Card when using headphones?

Alonzo

I personally think the integrated sound on my PC is just fine, but I'm curious if a sound card would make it even better despite the fact that I only use headphones. I rarely ever use my cheapo desktop speakers.

Answer
Look into a DAC/Headphone amp that works over USB. The cheapest I can think of is the NuForce Icon Mobile at around $80.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-WBJE2trbHnp/p_773ICOMOBB/NuForce-Icon-Mobile-Black.html?tab=review

This will plug in via USB, and it will serve as a high-quality amp and a Digital to Audio Convertor. That is far better than just a computer sound card... and many times better than Onboard sound in most cases.

Of course, there are more expensive ones out there, but this one is the cheapest quality amp/DAC that I can find. I personally own one, and they're great.

Also.... if we're talking sub$50 headphones, don't get it. But if we're talking about $100+ quality headphones, then this will be worth while.

best wireless headphones?

Michelle

noise cancelling -active & wireless

Answer
Hey, Michelle

There are a wide selection of headphones that are available on the market currently, and for the most part, the quality of the sound and craftmanship will depend on the price range you are willing to spend. In the lower price range (less than $50), you will be able to find some fairly decent headphones that will be suitable for someone that is just aiming to listen to music on their iPod or computer, and are not full fledged audiophiles. In the medium price range ($50-150), you will get a good selection of very high quality headphones that would be suitable for nearly everyone that is not involved with music professionally. The sound quality of these headphones will be suberb, should cancel out almost all background noise, and will be of a quality craftmanship that will last for quite a long time. On the expensive side of things ($150 and up), you are going to find professional quality headphones. For the normal person this will be complete overkill as they provide a quality of sound that is unmatched, but is generally only sought after by professionals that are working on their own music (or the kinds of people who make sure their house is hooked up with the best speaker systems on the market).

Depending on how much you are willing to spend, my top five recommendations (from cheapest to most expensive) would have to be:

Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-hd-202-ii-professional/

This model provides good insulation against background noise and has a solid bass range and response time. Perfect for someone looking for a cheap set of quality headphones.

Sennheiser RS120

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-rs120/

These are very affordable for wireless headphones. They feature an open-ear system and a strong bass response. Because they are wireless, you don't even have to be in the same room as the device that is transmitting the sound, giving you ultimate range while listening to music. Very lightweight and a high quality. I have this set for using around my house.

Sennheiser HD280 Professional

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-hd-280-pro/

Here we are well into the midrange quality headphones. This set is corded, but provides a much higher sound quality than the RS120. They provide up to 32 dB attenuation of outside noise, so you do not have to worry about much from background noise, even in somewhat noisy environments.

Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/beats-by-dr-dre-solo-hd/

These are in the high-end of the spectrum of headphones. They are very comfortable and can produce a top-notched sound quality. If you're looking for something that is "in-style" and provides you with some of the best sounds you can find at this price range, then these are the headphones for you.

Bose Quietcomfort 15

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/bose-quietcomfort-15/

I use this set when I'm playing live venues. They are some of the best headphones you can get at the moment, are very comfortable while wearing for many hours at a time (even in hot, sweaty clubs), block out most background noise and provide nearly unmatched sound quality. For someone looking for professional quality headphones, or with a big budget looking for the best money can buy, then these are the headphones for you.

Overall, the most important thing while choosing the headphones, is the consider what you will be using them for and do not over estimate how much quality you actually need. If you're looking for something to use to and from school or just while you're hanging out, listening to music, you probably do not need top of the line Bose. Good luck, Michelle, and I hope you find the perfect set!
