Buying headphones?

SWAY

I wanted to buyheadphones that play loud, but Is there a way you can tell before you buy them?

Answer
You should be able to test them in the store you plan to buy them in. A known brand of headphones should give you all the volume you want without distortion.

I know you don't want to hear this, but can I advise you NOT to play your headphones LOUD? I have lost considerable hearing due to my listening to loud headphones in my youth. It hurts me to see young people with headphones on and I can hear the audio from a few feet away. Same with car stereos. I learned the hard way. Please don't make the same mistake. Besides, listening to music too loud can hide the gentler nuances of good music; even if it's rock or heavy metal.

Best buy headphones.?

Trident

Can anyone tell me what headphones you can test out at best buy? I need the largest list possible! Thanks!

Answer
I just went to Best Buy and checked out some headphones; here's the ones I remember that were available for testing.

Beats By Dre Pros
Beats By Dre Studios
Beats By Dre Solo HD
Bose QC15
Bose AE2
Bose QC3
Skullcandy Hesh

Sorry, that's all I remember, it's been a little while.

Best of Luck

On-ear headphones under $200?

Raygan

I'm looking for some on ear headphones under 200 dollars. I would like for them to be compact so I can carry them in my backpack, and not look goofy walking around with some huge headphones on my head. I've seen the beats, soul, sol and fanny wang's, but i've seen plenty of reviews stating how easy they broke. I know the music I listen to also really effects the kind I get, but I don't have any set genre I listen to. I mainly listen to hip-hop, pop, and country.
Thanks for the help,
raygan2014

Answer
Hey, ?

There are a wide selection of headphones available on the market currently, and for the most part, the quality of the sound and craftmanship will depend on the price that you are willing to spend. On the lower price range (less than $50), you will be able to find some no too shabby headphones that will be perfect for somebody that is just aiming to listen to music on their mp3 player or computer, and are not full fledged audiophiles. Once you get to the medium price range ($50-150), you will get a good selection of very high quality headphones that are going to be perfect for nearly everyone that is not involved with music professionally. The quality of these headphones will be suberb, should block out almost all background noise, and are going to be of a quality craftmanship that will last for a very long time. On the expensive side of things ($150 and up), you are going to get into professional quality sets. For the normal person this will be complete overkill as they provide a quality of sound that is unmatched, but is generally only sought after by professionals who are working on their own music (or the type of consumers who make sure that their house is hooked up with the best speaker systems on the market).

Depending on the amount you are willing to spend, my top five recommendations (from cheapest to most expensive) would be:

Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-hd-202-ii-professional/

This model provides good insulation against background noise and has a solid bass range and response time. Perfect for somebody looking for an affordable set of quality headphones.

Sennheiser RS120

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-rs120/

These are quite affordable for wireless headphones. They feature an open-ear system with a strong bass response. Because they're wireless, you don't even have to be in the same room as the device that is transmitting the sound, giving you ultimate flexibility while listening to music. Very lightweight and a high quality. I have this set for using around my apartment.

Sennheiser HD280 Professional

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-hd-280-pro/

These are well into the midrange of quality headphones. This set is corded, but provides a much better sound quality than the RS120. They provide up to 32 dB attenuation of outside noise, so you do not have to worry about much from background noise, even in somewhat noisy environments.

Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/beats-by-dr-dre-solo-hd/

These are in the high-end spectrum of headphones. They are quite comfortable and produce a top-notched sound quality. If you're looking for something that is "in-style" and provides some of the best sound quality you can find at this price range, then these are the headphones for you.

Bose Quietcomfort 15

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/bose-quietcomfort-15/

I use these when I am playing live venues. They are some of the best headphones you can get right now, are very comfortable while wearing for many hours at a time (even in hot, sweaty clubs), block out most background noise and provide nearly unmatched sound quality. For somebody looking for professional quality headphones, or with a big budget looking for the best money can buy, then these are the headphones for you.

Overall, the most important thing for choosing the headphones, is the think about what you will be using them for and do not over estimate how much quality you actually need. If you're looking for something to use to and from school or just while you're hanging out, listening to music, you probably do not need top of the line Bose. Good luck, ?, and I hope you find the perfect set!

Surround Sound Headphones?

John

What is with everyone saying "surround sound headphones are gimmicks?" I understand that a lot of them are virtual and don't actually have 5.1 or 7.1. But if the audio even somewhat replicates a surround experience it isn't a gimmick. I feel like these audiophiles need to explain themselves a little bit. Just because it doesn't work as well as you'd like doesn't mean it is a gimmick, right? wrong?

I just keep reading forums with audiophiles saying that surround headsets are gimmicks and to get some nice stereo instead. But is this the right decision if you play games, watch movies, etc? Again, I just feel like everyone is not an audio snob, so try to be helpful instead of just saying "those suck," or "what a gimmick."

Any helpful advice on this dilemma? Surround headset or no surround for gaming? movies?

Answer
the reason they say that they are a gimmick is because when you have surround sound headphones you have 2 Speakers, sometimes 4 that only make it sound like they are surround sound. with out the actual fairly large space between the Speakers you would normally find in a room using Stereo Equipment you cant get a true surround sound effect. but as far as if you want them for gaming/watching movies i assume you will be using a computer, which means you will also be using a 3.5mm headphone jack(that's why the audiophiles say the head phones are a gimmick is because unless you use digital audio out you can't have true surround sound.) so if its only for gaming/watching movies you better off just getting a pair of normal headphones because they cost less and any surround effect you might get with the expensive headphones you can get using software.

Good Headphones for Electronic Music?

Joe

I am looking for Over ear Headphones priced around $100 ($120 max).
They need to be good for bass since I mostly listen to Trance, Hardcore, Dubstep, and EDM.

So far the only 2 headphones in my category I have found were:
Sennheiser HD 280 Pros
Sony MDR-XB500

Both are online only. If they are more marketed then that's great, because I don't like to purchase things online, Id rather shop and buy something local. If not, its no big deal.

Thanks, All suggestions are good.

Answer
Go for the Sennheisers, Sony is OKAY-ISH ONLY. Besides, music is MUCH MORE than thumping, overpowering, booming bass!

Buying new Headphones- help!?

Carsmypets

Hi guys i am buying new headphones and dont know which one to buy
can u suggest some?

price range is (preferably) up t0 $100 but if absolutely nesecary will got up to 150( but lets not)!

So i like listening to basically all kinds of music but mostly listen to Electronic, dubstep (UKF and Skirllex), Alternative Metal (Linkin Park, Three days grace).

I am looking for headphones the isolate the outside noise, and have a removable cord, just in case the cord breaks.

I also want good frequency range and want them to sound amazing ( close to bose or beats)!!!

Well thank you and hope that you can help me !!! :D

Answer
v-moda lp's are amazing for that kind of music, their supposed to block out outside noise (Doesn't really work) and they have a removeable cable and come with 2 cables.
The frequency doesn't really matter because almost all headphones are 20hz-20kHz and anything lower than 20hz and higher than 20kHz usually can't be heard.

What are the best replacement headphones for the iPhone?

Julia D

Answer
I have bought a couple of different headphone replacements for my iPhone. Some expensive, some not.
I first bout the Maximo iP-HS2 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011G9LCU/102-1335338-6100152?ie=UTF8&tag=armitage-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0011G9LCU). They went bad in just on month. By bad, I mean that one side went out completely.

I next found the Rivet Stereo Earphones (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SSSUG0/102-1335338-6100152?ie=UTF8&tag=armitage-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000SSSUG0). They are also iPhone compatible with the call button and microphone. I found that I like these a lot. They were less expensive. Some people don't like the lanyard style earphones. (They hang around your neck like a necklace.) I like this feature. I think they have a better sound than Apple's headphones.

If I were more of an audiophile, I would order V-MODA Vibe Duo. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WN00FK/102-1335338-6100152?ie=UTF8&tag=armitage-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000WN00FK) They seem to have good reviews.

I hope this helped.

Do Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones work with an iPhone?

CP

Do any of you have an iPhone and use the Lowrider Headphones by Skullcandy?

Please don't respond unless you actually have an iPhone and use them with it, or you are absolutely POSITIVE they work/don't work.

The jack for the iPhone is different from other iPods, so i don't think they will necessarily work for the phone even if they work for the iPods. There are many ear/headphones that aren't compatible with the iPhone.

Thanks!

Answer
I am pretty sure that they'll work
I dont have an iphone but I know that sometimes its buggy with headphones they dont have a mic so it might cause problems but will still work

where do i find LOUD headphones?

Pogue Maho

i live in the uk and am sick of the poor volume that i get out of my headphones for my p.c. i have bought 3 sets in the last couple of months and all are rather pathetic i want very loud headphones to the extent that they almost hurt at full volume ( i know thats bad for me). i want the headphones to listen to music, where do i buy loud headphones from. any help appreciated.

Answer
DO NOT get anything by Bose. They sell over-priced, hyper-marketed crap for the money they charge. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-560's that cost about $150 on ebay. These can get extremely loud with excellent frequency response and no distortion. They are the over-the-ear kind (not ear buds). But, I prefer them to ear buds, anyway (ear buds don't sit in my ears correctly and fall out easily).

What are the loudest headphones?

~Dreamer~

All of the headphones i buy arent loud enough do you no a brand that are loud?

Answer
Shure makes some of the best sound isolating earbuds, which is going to allow you to hear more music and less outside noise - not necessarily louder, but definitely much clearer (even in a noisy environment).

They are pretty expensive, but worth it if audio is important to you.

Also, consider connecting your headphones first to a headphone amp and then to your audio source. This won't work between you and an iPod, but works great between you and your PC. That'll definitely punch up the levels.

Can someone help me figure out if this website is legitimate?

Big Ben

After some web surfing, I found these wireless Beats by Dre (I know they're fake), but I can't figure out whether or not this website is real/secure to put my credit card information into.

http://www.beatsbydrdresolohd.com/discount-beats-by-dr-dre-wireless-overear-black-headphones-p-183.html

Can someone help me find proof or anything that can have me rest assured about it. What concerns me is that on the bottom of the page there are 5 "customer reviews" who give the beats 5 stars all around and the reviews sound like sellers!

Answer
100% scam.

That is a fake website pretending to sell cheap merchandise.

Any site that advertises merchandise cheaper than the official manufacture's website is a fake site shipping gosh awful crappy knock-offs or simply collecting cash and not even bothering to ship fakes.

The pictures on the site look like the real merchandise because those pictures ARE of the official merchandise. Those pictures were stolen from the official manufacture's website. If you receive anything at all, which is doubtful, it will not resemble those pretty pictures at all.

The payment options say it all, Western Union and bank transfer. The credit card icons are just there for show, that site does not accept credit cards, only anonymous cash payments.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

Your bank can only get your money back if there is money left in the scammer's bank account. Scammers know this and will immediately withdrawal the money you transferred. No money in the account means absolutely no possibility of you getting your hard-earned cash back.

In all seriousness, when something goes wrong, what will you do? Send an email that is ignored and blocked? Send chat requests until you are ip banned? Call internationally and speak fluent Chinese?

The UPS, TNT and DHL icons are there only to take up space, that site only ships with EMS, the Chinese post office, good luck getting the "tracking number" they give you to work on the EMS website. You will need even more luck trying to contact EMS when your tracking stops and your "package" is lost somewhere.

You could then be really lucky, your "package" is discovered, seized by "customs" and all you need to do is pay even more money via Western Union or moneygram to the "custom's official" who uses a free email address just like that site has a free email address as its contact information.

Free email addresses are easy to open and close completely anonymously.

That site is NOT listed on the one official BeatsByDre website so it is definitely selling fake Beats or simply collecting cash and not bothering to ship fakes.

Please help ... Headphones ?

Ed Court

I want some very good quality full head headphones... I've had a look at the dr dre one ... But seen a few reviews that say that the built quality is bad so I need some that ... - great sound quality - great build quality (not cheep plastic ) and have to look good :D. From £0-230 .
Please can someone help me ...
Thanks

Answer
I personally think the dr dre studio headphones' built quality's just that the platic seemed so fragile and you might be scared you'll breack it into two and is quite expensive. (my friend owns it) but is really stylish and portable since its light. The sound quality is pretty good too.

I'd recommend Sennheiser's HD595 Premiere Headphones. Its by far my most favourite headphones of all time. I still think these are more superb than the dre studio headphones and its cheaper. the con is its just not as stylish :O

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD595-Performance-Premiere-Headphones/dp/B0001FTVE0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1289573174&sr=1-1

fyi; the list price is: 329.95 USD = 204.236 GBP
the discounted price: 161.95 USD = 100.211 GBP

it's cheaper both ways anyways...

if you're still checking out the dr dre, why not try their in-ear headphones? they have nice audios as well.

Jazz music is dying out?

Nathan Gra

I'm a 15 year old, thinking about my future. Honestly, my passion is jazz. I play saxophone, and I love jazz. Problem is, jazz is dying out. It is a laughing matter now. If you go to school and say you listen to jazz, you get laughed at and get picked on for not listening this crap hoard of sounds, supposedly known as "music" (somehow?) made by Nicki Minaj and Lil wayne... I can't stand it. When someone gives me their headphones, and says "listen to this song!" and i hear it is lil wayne er whatever, I can't hear any music whatsoever. I couldn't like it even if I tried my hardest. I honestly think people only listen it to be "cool."
I was thinking about my future. I really wanna be a musician, as a saxophonist. But I can't when my favorite genre is dying out. I kind of want to somehow, resurrect jazz. Any form of networking makes it seem like it is the most boring thing in the world. Like seeing it in a commercial, it looks like a low quality, boring, local commercial. I want to advertise jazz as something really interesting. I've gotten a fairly good understanding of what people are attracted to. I want to make it seem like YOU are the "cool" one if you have any thing to do with jazz. I want to make band the type of thing every one wants to be in, like the 60s. I don't want it to die.
However, jazz dying out, I have no idea how I could advertise it with no money. I want music to be a career, but I can't really when it's kind of.. dead.
kjsdfkjghlkjfsg what do I do >.>
What is your opinion on the music industry?

Answer
First, thank you for your devotion to jazz. That's the first thing that will help keep jazz alive. There are a lot of young people here in Seattle who are very active in nationally recognized school jazz bands. Many of them go on to successful music careers. You are not alone, and I am grateful to you all for your contributions. There are a lot of institutions working to keep jazz education going and this gives me hope.

The second thing that will keep jazz alive is an audience. I really don't know whether it's growing or not. Your question has started me on some research. So far, I see unclear results with no firm conclusion. The fact that there is information available on jazz audience demographics at least demonstrates that there are people and institutions working to understand what's really going on. That also gives me hope for jazz.

What I can say, from my own experience, is that there are a lot of people, young and old, who are deeply interested in jazz here in Seattle. Jazz lovers are a small but devoted bunch. I can go out to a club or concert hall any day of any week here (well, not Christmas Day) and hear live jazz by local musicians- and I'm not alone in the audience. I can also say that there are lots of people may not count jazz as their favorite type of music, but who find some kind of jazz that they enjoy at least part of the time they listen. So this gives me hope.

The music industry as a whole is, has been, and probably always will be a tough business focused on the latest thing and a fast buck. Jazz musicians - musicians in general - have always had a challenging time. I know that there are people here in Seattle who, through a combination of teaching, gigging, recording, arranging, whatever, are raising families on jazz. Maybe not getting rich like Kenny G, but getting along and doing it while doing something they love.

Also, since it's alive, it keeps changing. It's mixing and merging with new classical music, world musics, rock, even hip-hop and rap. Jazz is not going to die out, but it will change. And that's as it should be.

There are young people out there who share your interest in jazz. I wish I knew how to help you get in touch with them, but I don't. Garfield High School and Roosevelt High School here in Seattle have excellent jazz band programs. There are high school jazz band competitions all over the US - maybe there's one near you. Cornish College and University of Washington in Seattle have strong jazz programs. Check out "Racer Sessions" on Facebook to see what a lot of young folks here are doing. YouTube has some videos recorded at The Royal Room here, jazz and otherwise.

I hope this helps. Good luck and best wishes.

Headphone suggestions?

Mark

I'm looking for a new pair of headphones.

Criteria:

Under $150
Over/on ear
Focuses on Rock/Hip-Hop/Pop, but works well with Jazz and Classical
Clear sound
Loud bass, but not overpowering
Passive noise cancelling
Works well without a headphone amp
Doesn't let noise escape
Comfortable
Stylish
Works well with iPod

If anyone knows any headphones that fit all or most of these specs, it would be much appreciated.

Answer
I want to say Sennehsier HD25-1 or HD25 SP, ... i'd buy nothing else with a $150-200 budget. I'm thinking Denon AH-D1100 headphones although i'm not sure of they have .. gut thumping bass. I've got the Denon AH-D1001 and the bass is good, but not deep or booming.

I'm looking to DJ headphones (which the HD25-1's are) but comfort and DJ headphones don't really belong in the same sentense. Usually DJ headphones are big and bulky.

In terms of looks, i have got my eye on these Pioneer HDJ-500's.

http://portal.fakeheadphones.com/index.php?topic=813.msg2916#msg2916 - New Pioneer HDJ 500 headphones

The thing with DJ headphones is that they have a higher sensitivty, and so a headphone amp isn't really needed. but if you have one .......

I like my Ultrasone DJ1 headphones, the Equation Audio RP21's are classic.

Hope that's enought for you to go on?

How to wear headphones while running?

Will

ok so i dont have a job and i buy cheap headphones at target which are only $10. The left earbud is already going on and off when i move around, its so annoying. So what would be the best way to wear headphones while going for a jog, for instance, should i have the cord between me and my shirt or on the outside. and should i put the excess hanging cord line in my pocket that my phone is in or just let the cord hang and move around? i want to eliminate or lessen the earbud from dying out.

Answer
Well cheap headphones do have problems. Especially right where the phones plug into the music player.

I also buy cheap headphones. I get the over-the-ear kind for $10 at CVS or Walgreens. Colby and Sony both make some $10 over the ear headphones that are nice and light and don't have really long cords. If the pads rot, Radio Shack had replacement pads. I usually get a year or two from mine.

I think over-the-ear headphones are the best. Unlike earbuds they don't slip out because of all the jogging; they allow ambient noise in thru the sides so you can still be aware of your surroundings; you don't have the sound of the cable bumping against things being transmitted directly to your ear drums; and when it's cold, they keep your ears warm.

I keep my iPod in my short's pocket, and I put the headphone on backwards and let the cord go down my back. But I've seen lots of people who run the cable under their shirt. I guess you should also look for headphones that don't have really long cords.

Would These headphones be good for Running?

Joe

Im going to purchases these headphones: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Wireless-Headphones-Headset-Cancellation/dp/B008NMWBBS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=15Z80HZ35LO5J&coliid=I3CNBMJN36T8MW

But im not sure if they will be good for running, like I dont want them to slim off or irritate me?
Thanks

Answer
Hi, that kind of headphones isn't good for running, the best are : "earphones" , why this? because it has sound isolation when you put them in your ears, that kind of headphone you wish to buy is open air, it means you can hear all external sounds and the music you listen, so you have to volumen up to listen your music but trust me your ears will have a seriously pain with time; any earphone more than $50.00 is worth it, and perhaps you'll never use another cheap headset because the sound quality, you can find a lot of them in amazon, brands recommended: sennheiser, sony, panasonic. Also you can find bluetooth version of earphones, just have to find the best for your needs: more battery life
