Answer
well, for that kind of headphones, you may have a look at headphoneonsale.co.uk.there are really excellent headphones of varies types.

What is a good pair of inexpensive headphones to use while recording?

Emily

I'm new to the world of recording technology. I recently bought myself a USB condenser microphone to record my singing and whatnot. Now, I'm looking into getting a good pair of inexpensive headphones to use while recording. Inexpensive as in costing no more than about $100 - $150. Any suggestions, please? If possible, can add you some detail as to why you suggested what you suggested? Please and thank you!

Answer
Ignore skullcandy and bose - skullcandy lose alot of the definition, using cheap components, bass raised on the eq etc., and bose don't sound natural, they sound nice, but they'll cover up recording problems you want to hear. Same with the Beats...you want a nice flat EQ for recording, ideally, not a pair of headphones with the bass cranked up.

Your main options really are:
Senheisser HD-25 (mk2 are best, SP would do if you have a tight budget)
Senheisser HD280 (bigger than the 25s but as good quality for cheaper)
Beyerdynamic DT 770/DT100
Audio Technica ATH910PRO

But generally, avoid in ears if doing vocals, they create an effect where you're hearing yourself through the headphones and through your head, which isn't useful. Try and avoid headphones designed for mp3 players as they tend to be designed to cover up artifacts in the playback, which is the complete opposite to what you want.

What is a good brand of headphones to buy?

Abby

I want to get a nice pair of headphones. I mean the over the ear type, not earbuds. What is a good brand that has good quality? Preferably a reasonably priced brand? Please and thank you.

Answer
Good brands to consider are Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, denon, audio technica, ultrasone, akg, and shure.

in the $100ish range, i recommend the creative Aurvana Live!(sleek looking) or the philips citiscape downtown (these are stylish).

between 100-200, ultrasone hfi-580, ultrasone hfi-780, audio technica m50.

int the $200 range, the v-moda m80(stylish, just looks bad ass especially in person. ive listened to these and i can definitely say these will be my next headphone purchase when i have the money), or the sennheiser hd25-1 ii.

ill link to the m80's since i love them :)
http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-On-Ear-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B005HSDLCO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333838070&sr=8-1
review with video at second page. sound quality impressions are also at second page:
http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/v-moda-crossfade-m-80-and-v-80-true-blood-headphones

keep in mind all the headphones i suggested above are closed headphones, meaning they wont leak sound and can be used in public. for open headphones for at home use, i suggest sennheiser hd518/558/598, akg q701

you probably already know, but dont get these brands:
BOSE: decent sounding but not for the price (yes, they have noise cancelling, but noise isolating is just as good and its cheaper since you dont have to pay for extra electronics and batteries.)
BEATS: all bad sounding for the price, its really just a necklace
SKULLCANDY: sucks mostly(except the aviators), but they are starting to focus on sound quality, the aviators are a good example of this.

the good brands i mentioned above also have their share of less than spectacular sounding headphones, so do your research!!!
the ones i recommended are the ones I've already researched since i'm a headphone nut.

research stuff:

I want to know what the best gaming headphones are for the ps3 and can u use them to listen to music on your iPhone?

This will help you immensely:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-6-2-2012-ksc35-added-comfort-scores
i agree with pretty much everything in that post.

quick points:
-get a headphone with a large "soundstage" (read reviews!)
-headsets in general are bad, you're better off with a good headphone+clip on mic
-since you're gaming on a console, get something like the astro mixamp to convert 5.1+ to stereo to retain all the directional cues
-as long as the headphone has a 3.5mm (1/8 inch) jack, it can be plugged into an iphone

When buying headphones, what do you look at to find out how loud it goes?

There is a technical box on headphones i see, but how do i know how loud they get and what is good or average. I also want to know if it says anything about the quality.

Yesterday i bought a Motorola S10 HD bluetooth but it can also play music n stuff. For 90$ the sound quality is not at all what i expected. So what is the best kind of headphone to buy?
Im going w the one i get the most recomendations on btw.

Answer
Check out reviews on http://www.head-fi.org/forum

You'll find reviews of all kinds of headphones there, and you'll probably find that the Beats, Bose and Skullcandys may be fashionable and popular, but when it comes to sound quality are regarded as average, at best.

I'm not familiar with many headphones at the $90 level, but I think the Grado SR80s are at about that level. They'll totally embarrass the fashionable 'phones. There are bound to be some good Sennheisers and Shures around that price too. But never ever buy based on the opinion of some bloke on the internet.... Read reviews, make a list of headphones to listen to, and find somewhere that'll let you try them using your music and your iPod. My guess is that you'll love the Grados...

Answer
If REAL quality is an issue, please go for REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica, Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish" indeed.

I want to buy good headphones for under $100?

Sred97

I want a good pair of headphones for under $100 with good bass but not overpowering. I listen mostly to hip hop. What do you recommend?

Answer
If REAL quality is an issue, you should stick to REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica (NOT to be mixed with Technic which is utter rubbish as well!), Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like V-Moda, Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish" indeed. Please do NOT fall a victim to FASHION ACCESSORIES by buying Boombox, Ministry of Sound, Sol/Republic/Revolution, Noontec Zoro's, Benetton, a-jays, iFrogz, Marley, Fanny Wang, Razer, Karl Kani, WESC, Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), BE THEM FAKE OR NOT!

Also, please do NOT focus on the thumping bass that just distorts everything else, instead go for GOOD audio quality IN GENERAL.

I just got a new pair of headphones (Beats by Dr.Dre Studio by Monster) and I have have a equalizer that pushes alot of bass which I absolutely love. But I play my music usually as loud as it goes with alot of bass and I don't want to hurt my eardrum, is it safe to be doing this?
Would it still be bad to just crank it to the max once in a while?

Answer
Yes, it can!

I'm around 50+ years old, and I was a teenager when the very first Sony Walkman portables came out (see link, below), and I used to listen to them constantly, very, VERY loud, and today, some 30 years later, I have constant ringing in my ears, slightly worse in the right, for some reason, but the point is, if I could go back in time and turn down the volume back then, I would, because, trust me, you DON'T want to wind up with ringing ears like this, it's REALLY annoying and it NEVER stops... ever!!

Good luck!...

What are the best stereo headphones on the market? I love great sounding audio, and will spend whatever is necessary for the best sound money can buy. Any suggestions?

Answer
In my opinion and experience, BOSE is the Premium of the market. If you buy BOSE headphones, you will notice that they cover the whole ear, which is good because this blocks sound out around you, producing a crystal clear sound. A recommendation, is to not buy earbud headpohnes, they DON'T block out noise, they don't produce a good sound, and after a while they hurt you ears, iPod headphones are an example of earbud headphones, BAD. So BOSE is the best, knowing from experience!

How come some headphones I saw on websites cost over $200? Is the quality better than iPod headphones or worst? Sum people wrote to buy the ones that cost less than $30. Those are probably horrible.

Answer
There are an overwhelming number of headphones from a variety of makers at every price point. However, quality varies. You should also consider where you'll be using your headphones (ie, at home or on-the-go). Fortunately, there are two amazing options that won't break the bank.

For home use, the Grado SR60 ($69 in USA) offer the greatest value. The sound is so crystal clear and detailed that it feels like you're immersed among the instruments! It sounds significantly better than most $200+ headphones (and it obliterates any overrated, overpriced Bose crap).

For portable use, the Koss Portapros (<$50) are legendary. They've been a bestseller since the 80s and sound almost as good as the SR60. Koss's lifetime warranty is another reason to buy these.

I own both these headphones, use them everyday with my iPod and laptop, and find them extremely comfortable to wear. If I had to choose only one, it would probably be the Portapros, simply for their portability. There are many reviews written on these two models, if you'd like another opinion. Ask any audiophile and they'll attest to their greatness in sound and value. Just remember that more money does not always equal better sound quality.

What is the name of the cable with a microphone jack on one end and a headphone jack on the other?

Some Guy

I want to record the audio coming from my computer's speakers onto the computer, so I need a cable that goes directly from the headphone port to the microphone port, but I don't remember what it's called.

Answer
It would be a 3.5mm or 1/8th" Male to male stereo cable, and you can get them from either

www.cableguyusa.com
http://www.cableguyusa.com/cgi-bin/cable/601-802-6.html

or www.monoprice.com
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021802&p_id=5577&seq=1&format=2

I know a few people that do this to record Audio from Streaming websites. A trick that you can do once you have your output connected to your input is use Windows Movie maker. Create a movie with a picture and make that picture a bit longer than what you want to record. Then use the Narrate feature of moviemaker to capture the audio instead of your voice. This will save the audio to it's own file

BailiSky

I have a pure breed chiuaua, And she chews up EVERYTHING (In example, tooth brushes, headphone, phone chargers, phones, comforters, underwear, denim, shirts, cords, bottles and so much more!) I keep everything put up but she still somehow finds things to destroy. She has tons of chew toys food and water. I cant afford to keep replacing things, any ways I can stop it or when she'll grow out of it?

Thanks,
Baili.

Answer
How old is she?

You need to keep her leashed when you are home and tethered to you or in a crate when you are not. If she grabs an item that she should not have tell her drop it! and offer her a treat to get her to drop it. Trade for it. If she is eyeing up an item on the floor or something she shouldn't have, tell her 'leave it!" and leash correct her (gently, just a small tug to redirect her attention).

She won't just outgrow it. She needs to be trained.

Answer
A Bachelor's programme in sign language has been introduced by Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou). A four-year programme, it entails
a one year foundation course that imparts English language and sign language skills. Students who have completed class X are eligible for the programme.

"As far as learning needs of the hearing impaired are concerned, there is a lack of awareness. This is reflected in the dearth of quality course materials and infrastructural paucity in our country," says PR Ramanujam, director, Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE), Ignou. "Even policy statements of the government regarding education for the hearing impaired fall short of addressing their 'specific' needs. However, the foremost challenge is the lack of trained teachers."

The first graduate programme for the hearing impaired in India, it also hopes to address the challenge of unemployment. According to a recent estimate, only 5% of the hearing impaired children attend schools in India.

"This course has been developed in collaboration with the International Centre for Sign Languages and Deaf Studies (iSLanDS) at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in the UK. This partnership will help us leverage their relatively more sophisticated teaching methodologies and course materials for the benefit of our students through exchange programs. We are being able to understand how specific technologies can assist and augment learning for hearing impaired students. This understanding is also useful for developing new learning assistive technologies and replenishing our computer labs for the benefit of students," he explains.

Ram Das, a history student from St Stephen's College, who is visually impaired, used around 150 audio-cassettes in class X and 250 in class XII for his studies. But then, he points out that it was cumbersome when it came to searching subjects and chapters. But now, with the 'Audio Book Reader' (ABR) recently launched by Samadrishti, Kshamata Vikas Evam Anusandhan Mandal (Saksham), an NGO, things are likely to be better.

The ABR is a pocket size device that reads the audio tracks stored in a Multimedia Memory Card (MMC) with random access to any subject, book or chapter. With a storage capacity of 60 hours in 2 GB capacity memory card, it provides the facility of putting the entire curriculum in a pocket, in a specified language, as per the need. It can be operated through a voice menu and embossed buttons and has a rechargeable battery backup of eight hours. Another advantage is that ABR can also be used as a group-hearing device by attachment of external amplispeakers or audio distributor.

As a pilot project launched earlier this year in Nagpur, the device is being used by over 70 visually impaired people, in the first phase. The ABR comes at a price. It costs Rs 4,000 for individual use and Rs 5,000 for a classroom setup. For a library setup, with 10 headphones and audio distributor, it costs Rs 6,000.

Shirish Darwhekar, special project director, Saksham, says: "In the absence of Braille, visually impaired students are forced to depend on either e-books or audiocassettes and CDs. This means that someone reads out the content of the books and records their voice in a cassette or a CD, which is a tedious process. Thus, we are trying to offer a customized product, which would be based on specific needs of students." He added: "We are trying to involve sponsors to make it cost-effective for underprivileged children."

Jesus

Preferably under 50 dollars. I want them to sound decent and last me a while.

Answer
Please do yourself a favour and do NOT buy Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), be them fake or not! If REAL quality is an issue, please go for REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica, Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish".

How to use microphone and headphones on your PC? Where i must plug in microphone, headphones cable, i have tried to plug in microphone cable into a pink input, and headphones in green input, but nothing, it says that there are no microphone plugged in.

Answer
You got it right, the mic is supposed to go in the pink one and the headphones go in the green one. It sounds like those inputs aren't working, or your mic and headphones aren't working. Try plugging them into another computer if possible and see if they work, if they do, the issue is the input (or ports) on your computer. Look in the back of your computer to see if there is any headphone and mic input ports.

Can you suggest me a good headset/headphones for fps pc gaming?

George

I would like to get some good headset/headphones for fps pc gaming that have good location detection(I can hear a guy walking around or shooting his gun and know his general area), are comfortable to wear over long periods of time, and have good sound quality. I would like to spend between $100-$200, but it's ok if it is over. Can you recommend me a good pair?

Answer
I found that my Plantronics .Audio 370 was a pretty good headset.

http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/products/cat640035/cat1430032/prod5500011

I've had them for about a year now and they do just what they want you to do.

I hope this helps!

best headphones 7.1 surround image

I'm thinking of buying the nvidia gtx 470, it apparently has hdmi that supports 7.1 surround sound, What I want to know is how am I supposed to get the sound from the hdmi port? How do I get the sound from the surround sound hdmi port over my headphones? If it has surround sound hdmi then how do I get it connected to my headphones?

Answer
Headphones? you don't. surround sound requires multiple speakers. 5.1 = 5 speakers and a sub, 7.1 = 7 speakers and a sub. Headphones consist of 2 speakers so you get stereo. "Surround Sound" has more to do with how the audio tracks have been mixed and recorded then separating the tracks and sending them to the individual speakers during playback. There is such a thing as "virtual surround sound" where multiple tracks are sent to the same speaker that does sound slightly better than just regular stereo, but it is still only 2 speakers and coming to you from only 2 directions so it is still stereo instead of "surrounding" you with sound from multiple speakers coming from multiple directions.

What is better for a gaming headset, dolby 5.1 surround or dolby pro logic 2?

Tony

I have a set of astro a50 wireless gaming headset that are both Dolby 7.1 surround and Dolby pro logic 2 surround. All the in game audio options have either Dolby 5.1 or Dolby pro logic 2 settings, which one has the better sound quality for my headset? Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Answer
= Dolby Digital 5.1 = real discrete surround sound encoded audio > Dolby Pro Logic II or DTS:Neo 6 takes stereo encoded audio and matrix upmixes it into a fake 5.1 surround sound format for surround sound speakers.
= Any stereo/2.0 channels of audio speakers/headphones will work with a virtual effect such as DTS Surround Sensation/DTS Headphone:X or Dolby Virtual Speaker and Dolby Headphones. = Media players like k-lite codec pack for media player classic or vlc player or kmplayer have a audio setting called Headphone Virtual Spatialization which is the same thing, which takes any stereo speaker/headphones and creates a virtual/fake surround sound effect (special surround sound headphones may only have that virtual surround sound effect built into them, that's the only difference).

- DTS (.DTS or .DCA): Up to 5.1 surround sound, 24 bit depth, 48,000 hz sample rate, and constant bitrates of 1,536/1,509 kbps on Blu-ray discs or HD-DVD discs or DVD discs (some/few DVD discs might only be at 768/754 kbps or around 512 kbps). May come with extensions mentioned below. Automatic/preferred downmix to stereo systems.
- Dolby Digital (.AC-3): Up to 5.1 surround sound, 24 bit depth, 48,000 hz sample rate, and constant bit rates of 640 kbps on Blu-ray discs or 512/504 kbps on HD-DVD discs or 448/384 kbps on DVD discs. May come with extensions mentioned below. Automatic/preferred downmix to stereo systems.

- DTS-HD High Resolution Audio (.DTS-HD or .DTS-HD-HR): Up to 7.1 surround sound, 24 bit depth, 96,000 hz sample rate or 192,000 hz sample rate for 5.1 surround sound, and contant bitrates of 6.0 Mbps on Blu-ray discs or 3.0 Mbps on HD-DVD. Comes with a full quality DTS track for systems that only have DTS decoder. Automatic/preferred downmix to either 5.1 or stereo systems.
- Dolby Digital Plus (.E-AC-3): Up to 7.1 surround sound, 24 bit depth, 96,000 hz sample rate or 192,000 hz sample rate for 5.1 surround sound, and constant bitrates of 3.0 Mbps on HD-DVD discs or 1,024 kbps on Blu-ray discs (in future it says Blu-ray discs may support 4,096 kbps or 6,144 kbps). Comes with a full quality Dolby Digital track for systems that only have Dolby Digital decoder. Automatic/preferred downmix to either 5.1 or stereo systems.

- DTS-HD Master Audio (.DTS-HD or DTS-HD-MA): Up to 7.1 surround sound, 24 bit depth, 96,000 hz sample rate or 192,000 hz sample rate for 5.1 surround sound, and variable bitrates of 25.4 Mbps on Blu-ray discs or 18.0 Mbps on HD-DVD discs. Comes with a full quality DTS track for systems that only have DTS decoder. Automatic/preferred downmix to either 5.1 or stereo systems.
- Dolby TrueHD (upgraded version of .MLP is called .Dolby TrueHD or .TrueHD): Up to 7.1 surround sound, 24 bit depth, 96,000 hz sample rate or 192,000 hz sample rate for 5.1 surround sound, and varible bitrates of 18.0 Mbps kbps on Blu-ray discs and HD-DVD discs. Comes with a full quality Dolby Digital track for systems that only have Dolby Digital decoder. Automatic/preferred downmix to either 5.1 or stereo systems. 48,000 hz to 96,000 hz upsampling for Digital-to-Analog conversions (DAC).

- DTS Surround Sensation: Takes any stereo/2.0 speakers or stereo/2.0 headphones and creates a virtual 5.1 surround sound effect for speakers or 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound effect for headphones. DTS Headphone:X up to 11.1 surround sound effect.
- Dolby Virtual Speaker and Dolby Headphones: Takes any stereo/2.0 speakers or stereo/2.0 headphones and creates a virtual 5.1 surround sound effect for speakers or 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound effect for headphones.

I got the 'Logitech Vantage Bluetooth Headset' for the PS3 and I want to know if it's possible to use it as headphones for my PS3?

Answer
Nope. The PS3 only delivers voice chat through Bluetooth. And I'm thinking this is hardware based, so I doubt Sony could add such a thing in a firmware update.

If you want to use headphones, you need to either:

1. Buy headphones that connect to either the optical output or can connect to the RCA cables as is or through a separate adapter (you lose the voice chat, obviously).

2. Buy a dedicated gaming headset that come with a "mixer" or mini "sound box" to provide both voice chat and game sound (usually cost at least $80).

What is a good pair of PS3 gaming headphones?
