I want to get a new pair of headphones, but i am not sure which has better sound quality?

Xander

I am debating buying some over the ear headphones, but I am not sure which ones sound better.
I was looking at the Skullcandy Hesh as well as Earpollution Dj Style headphones. I am also looking for which has better bass as well. And please don't recommend different headphones because I am only looking at these 2.

Answer
Go to a store that sells them and try them on; not just for audio quality, but also weight, overall comfort, etc.

Otherwise, check the reviews in www.cnet.com

iPhone/iPod headphone with mic not working?

Kyle

I just bought some $30 headphone/mic combo for the iPhone/iPod, and the mic seems to have issues. Is there a control or something to activate or deactivate it? It has worked before, done this, then worked again (not sure how). My iPod recognizes there is a mic, but not feedback.
They're Apple headphones. All the buttons work, just no recording.

Answer
Mic works only on 32G and 64G iPod Touch as far as I know. But if you're on an iPhone, it should work fine.

The New Zune Premium Headphones?

geniusofme

I am a new proud owner of the 80gb Zune 2. My Question is about the headphones that came with the device, however. Consitering they have magnets on the ends of them, if i were to wrap the headphones and cord arround my device, would the contact with the magnets and the zune cause some damage to the hard drive of the device? Magnetic interference has played hell with some of my other devices so an answer would help me out alot. The last thing i need is for a silly mistake like that to destroy my pride and joy. Thank you in advance.

Answer
I have a Zune 30, and its headphones are magnetic and I haven't had any problems with memory loss. (can't say thats true with the software)

I watched a Mythbusters episode about magnetic interference, and they figured it was not a threat. I doubt very much that Microsoft would make an accessory that interfered with their product.

I hope this helped!! (and may this be the only worry you face with Zune)

Zune headphones?

mslightbri

how come if i plug the head phones all the way in, i dont hear anything, but if i leave the plug in part out a lil, i hear fine? This is brand new zune. headphones that came with the zune.

Answer
Might just be the headphones are messed up, or worse could be a problem with the headphone jack on your zune player itself. If you just bought it and its doing this I would take it back and get a new zune. As long as you have the extended warranty or your within the exchange time limit of the store you bought it from you will be fine.

Good luck

What are the best replacement headphones for the iPhone?

Julia D

Answer
I have bought a couple of different headphone replacements for my iPhone. Some expensive, some not.
I first bout the Maximo iP-HS2 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011G9LCU/102-1335338-6100152?ie=UTF8&tag=armitage-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0011G9LCU). They went bad in just on month. By bad, I mean that one side went out completely.

I next found the Rivet Stereo Earphones (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SSSUG0/102-1335338-6100152?ie=UTF8&tag=armitage-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000SSSUG0). They are also iPhone compatible with the call button and microphone. I found that I like these a lot. They were less expensive. Some people don't like the lanyard style earphones. (They hang around your neck like a necklace.) I like this feature. I think they have a better sound than Apple's headphones.

If I were more of an audiophile, I would order V-MODA Vibe Duo. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WN00FK/102-1335338-6100152?ie=UTF8&tag=armitage-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000WN00FK) They seem to have good reviews.

I hope this helped.

noise cancelling headphones between 100 - 150?

Juan

don't recommend beats by dre they are too expensive for me(

Answer
I just got Klipsch S4 earbuds. They are not noise "cancelling" but they are noise "isolating". They block out outside noise very well and have absolutely superb sound. Get them for 70 dollars online. If you want good noise cancelling headphones you will have to fork over more cash then 150 dollars.

Which headphones should I buy $100-$150?

Adam Todd

I want headphones with the following:
-noise canceling
-well rounded performance
-wireless (if possible)
-little/no sound leakage
-Between $100-$150

I like the Technita m50 but I can't stand the cord. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Answer
Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional Headphones (Black) are great for people who want great sound while sitting for long periods of time. Movie buffs, gamers, or music fans will not be disappointed. I would not recommend these headphones for active people, as they are large (obviously since they are over-ear headphones) and the very long cord+cord spool may be inconvenient for walking or jogging around.

What headphone amp should I get to improve sound quality in my HD 595's?

Hello

I just recently bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 595 headphones and am pretty impressed, but have been reading that you need a headphone amp to really enjoy these cans. I was looking at the FiiO E5, and it is very cheap, so will it boost sound quality or just serve as a volume boost? I'm mostly looking to improve sound quality and soundstage, volume isn't a huge deal for me. What amp should I get (under $75)?

Answer
FiiO headphone amplifiers are popular units, which comes as no surprise considering their low prices. Within the same price range of manufacturer retail prices*, though not quite the same level of portability as the FiiO E5, you should also seriously consider the Electric-Avenues Pocket Amp 2.

There are numerous headphone amplifiers and DAC/amplifiers available but few in the price range of the E5 and Pocket Amp 2 that are also capable of matching their performance. Limited to these two choices only, after itâs all said and done, I would purchase both the Electric-Avenues Pocket Amp 2 and the FiiO E5 *(as long as you can find the FiiO E5 on sale for less than USD 20.) Otherwise I would choose the Pocket Amp 2 over the E5.

The best over/on ear headphones for under 150 dollars?

Brad

I need to know the best choice for the best sounding headphones on the market. And I don't want any of the dr dre crap anymore. I have been thinking of getting the audio Technica ATH M50s.... But if there is a better option out there please tell me. And if it helps, I listen to rap techno and some rock, so I am a bass lover. But seriously, I want the best sounding headphones out there!!!! (for under 150$ of course)

Answer
At least Sennheiser HD series have great models with affordable price. I personally like my HD518's (though HD598 is slightly better), but my HD201 and HD415 aren't bad either.

Best Headphones for 100-150 dollars

Lloyd Boni

sennheiser's or bose

Answer
Senn HD280 Pro

Bose color the sound WAY too much so you dont get that true sound that was made to be heard. They (bose) add a lot of bass to the audio.

The Grado Labs SR80 are good too but not good for long use, not enough padding. I use both the Senn and Grados and love them both.

Also the AKG K141 MKII set is a standard for studio use meaning they color the sound very little.

Help choosing earbuds/headphones?

Eric

I am considering three models around the $100 range.

1. Bose in-ear
2. V-Moda Vibe
3. Shure SE110 Sound Isolating

I like the Bose brand and have had good experience with their speakers in the past, but am concerned that they may not be the best value.

I'm not too sure about V-Moda's styling or their reliability. Most people seem to like their quality though.

With the Shure, I'm not into the cord-around-ear configuration for wearing them, but most reviews think that they're a good value.

Any input or experiences?

Answer
In fact it currently only has one pair of headphones in this sector - the Bose in-ear headphones - and these represent a pretty an odd way of dipping the corporate toe into these highly competitive waters. I say odd because, while virtually every other manufacturer has focused on noise canceling canal phones of late, Bose's newest headphones are, in fact earbuds. Not in the traditional sense - they do have silicone rubber tips that extend inside your ear canal - but they don't create an airtight seal. The main body of the silicone rubber tips actually sit outside the ear canal and the result is that, though slightly more effective than a standard pair of iPod-style earbuds, they don't cut out external noise to any great degree.

This is clearly a pair of headphones designed to turn heads, though. Rather than plain black cables, they're decked out with rather fetching stripy black-and-white wires. These cables are also thick and feel well up to being trapped in your jacket zip a few times, while the joints at each end are similarly well put together. Other nice touches include a 3.5mm jack skinny enough to fit the iPhone's headphone port directly, and a decent range of accessories. In the box is a rectangular soft case with enough room to stow headphones plus a small MP3 player, a clothing clip to keep the wires from tugging at your ears, and a lanyard that allows you to hang the phones around your neck when you're not listening to music.

Now enjoy high-quality in-ear headphonesâ engineered and developed by the most respected name in sound. BOSE® in-ear headphones are the only in-ear headphones with the rich audio and comfortable design you've come to expect from Bose.
A new standard for in-ear headphones

Hear your music with more range, realism and clarity than with most conventional ear buds. Bose research and engineering are at the core of the acclaimed performance of BOSE® in-ear headphones. That includes our proprietary TriPort® acoustic headphone structure for greater output of low notes from a small headphone.

Better sound, better fit

BOSE® in-ear headphones are designed to be worn comfortably for extended periods of time. Many people experience discomfort from traditional ear buds, but our engineers have developed innovative, soft silicone tips shaped to rest easily in the outer bowls of your ears, not in the pressure-sensitive ear canals.

Tips come in three sizes for a more personal fit. You may find using a different size tip for each ear the most comfortable option. The headphones also come with a lanyard and clip for enhanced stability when you're on the move.

Better on the go

BOSE® in-ear headphones are engineered specifically for use with laptops, MP3 players and CD players. The audio cable's 3.5mm angled plug also fits directly into Apple iPhone⢠and other sources with recessed headphone jacks. And the headphones come with a sleek, protective carrying case âwith enough extra room for a portable MP3 player.

Many people's first experience of 'proper' noise cancelling headphones will have come courtesy of a pair of Bose cans, supplied to cancel out the hum of aeroplane engines in business class. Bose has been involved in the technology for some years now and seems to have the airline business well and truly sewn up. I've also seen its earbuds bundled with some MP3 players: the Samsung T10 for instance has a decent pair of Bose phones included. But strangely it hasn't yet gone for the biggest growing sector of the headphone market - in-ear headphones - in a particularly big way.

Pros: ; Brilliant sound quality, Great bass output, Good design, Comes with a neat leather case.
Cons: ; No noise cancellation, Silicon earplugs often come off, Gathers lots of dust, Expensive.

Headphones?

Q. Does anyone own a pair of Sennheiser 595? Sennheiser 555? Bose on-ear? Bose around-ear?

Yeah, I'm pretty much stuck between Bose and Sennheiser, specifically those models. Does the 595s have better sound quality then Bose?

It would be appreciated that an actual owner would answer this question.

Answer
Everything I have ever heard from Bose (Accoustimass subwoofer/satellites, Vave radio, and loudspeakers) have muddy bass, lack of midrange, and hissy treble. So, I would assume their headphones sound like that, too.

I have a two-year-old pair of Sennheiser HD 560's and they are awesome. The bass is tight and low, the midrange is very present, and the highs are crystal clear. The last two sets of headphones I've had were Sennheisers (used to have a 10-year-old set of HD506's, but the cable got caught and they ripped off my head one day and broke - so I replaced them with the HD560's). I will never own headphones by any other manufacturer.

Also, Senheisser stocks replacement parts for any headphones they ever made. You can get them directly from the factory. So, you never have to worry about replacing the whole headphone set if a part breaks (I found this out after I bought the HD560's).

Bose is overpriced and you will be disappointed with them if you later listen to the Sennheisers. Trust me on this.

Why do artist use headphones while recording a song?

Q. I notice artist while they are recording in the recording studio they use headphones over their head to listen to the music that is being played without the music actually being heard in the background so their voice isn't covered over by music that is being played while their singing and so their voice will sound crisp and clean without all that extra sound and echoing you get while trying to record with music playing but what I don't understand is how can they sing well without hearing their own voice?

It just seems odd I'm a good singer but even I sound a little off key when I'm listening to music and singing at the same time how can they do this without this problem occurring? Are their any music artist that know why they do this?

Answer
Headphones in the recording application are used primarily for the person whose recording to monitor themselves. This is applied more to voice actors and people in radio stations where music isn't as involved. This is also because what you think you're singing or speaking doesn't mean it will sound the same to a listener. You might think you're a good singer, but try recording yourself and compare. You might be surprised.

If they're singing over the instrumental track, then they will hear the music and their own voice. Plus the headphones that most recording studios use will be open-back (they let in sound/leak sound) so they'll be able to hear themselves quite easily. They can only listen to 1 side of the headphone if they need to.

wearing headphones when recording music?

Randomer12

so i read that the purpose of headphones while recording is so you can hear your real voice when listening as your normal voice can suond different when being listened too. how can i set my headphones so they do this? i want to wear my headphones and be able to hear my recording voice?

Answer
People wear headphones all the time when recording. The types used are high quality, professional (closed) headphones.

The purpose is to hear yourself sufficiently while recording, and at the same time stopping what you hear on the headset bleed into the recording microphones.

Some singers may prefer to lift one side of the headset away from the ear as it makes it easier for them to sing in tune and get some of the "live" voice they are used to hear. It is basically a training and experience thing though. Most experienced recording vocalists/singers sing perfectly with the headset full on.

Of course you will need a good fold-back system (that's the monitoring in a recording session). You will need to hear the recorded music along with your voice to be able to track your voice properly.

Some times the singer prefers just a couple of the instruments blended with their vocals.

Good DJ Headphones HELP?

Roberto

Im A Starter. I Know How To DJ But Now Im Actually Gonna Start &Go Out. Any Headphones Ideas? Under 60$ Please. I Really Liked The JVC XTREME XPLOSIVES. Look Nice & Comfortable. Also I Need A SoundCard, Whats A Good Decent Brand/Price.?

Answer
Good proper DJ headphones are all well over $100.

When it comes to DJ gear the one place you should never cheap out is on the headphones. The reason being: when you are trying to beat match two songs with two massive monitors aimed at you and the echo of the main system all around your headphones need to be loud AND clear not just one or the other (or worse neither).

Headphones fall into generally 4 categories:

- Consumer
These are the cheap ear buds and over ears that you find at WalMart and target.

- Fashion
This is just an extension of consumer and includes things like SkullCandy and WeSC. They have large headphones that look like DJ headphones but trust me at the performance volumes they sound terrible. (Performance volumes are the volumes needed when DJing at a party or club which are considerably louder than DJing in your bedroom).

- Audiophile
These are usually really good quality and include brands like Bose, AKG, Sennheiser, Shure and others of that nature. The problem is although the quality is there the volumes aren't and neither is the durability for taking the abuse a DJ will put their headphones through.

(I am not ragging on these headphones, I am wearing a pair of Shure headphones right now as I listen to music at my computer. BUT, I would never use them for DJing).

- DJ
Real DJ headphones fall here and the prices start around $150 (with some exceptions mentioned below). Style wise they are all pretty much all the same silver and black over ear construction but as I said they are designed to be loud AND clear and that is all that matters. DJ Headphones are also durable and foldable because they are often stuffed in record bags and moved around constantly.

During a single one hour set I might take my headphones off and put them back on over 30 times and at the end drop them in my gig bag, as good as they sound and look a set of audiophile headphones like say Dr. Dre Beats would not live up to that beating for very long.

These are examples of proper DJ headphones:
- Allen & Heath XD:53
- Pioneer HDJ-1000's (These are the ones I use right now)
- Pioneer HDJ-2000's (These are pretty much the best that money can buy right now)
- Sony MDR-V700's (These were my last pair until I broke them)
- Technics RP-DH1200's
- Ultrasone DJ1's
- Sennheiser HD-25's (These are actually not classic style DJ headphones but I mention them because a lot of people swear by them)

These brands are hit and miss (may be ok for small venues and parties but I wouldn't use them in a club):
- Reloop
- Numark
- American Audio
- Gemini

If you really want to save money: Pioneer HDJ-500's
They cost about $100 and they are "entry level" DJ headphones. They have Pioneer quality without the usual price tag. (Some stores also have the Sony MDR-V700's for under $100 these days but they were discontinued so they are hard to find)

- DO NOT go any cheaper then the HDJ-500's
- DO NOT buy SkullCandy
- DO NOT shop for DJ headphones anywhere but a pro audio store, if you can buy your groceries in the same store they are not selling professional headphones.

-----

As to your sound card question: M-AUDIO or Native Instruments are both good brands if you mean external.

-----

Good neutral headphones with detailed sound (for under 100$)?

paranoid p

so i've been wanting to get an audiophile level headphone (well at least , sort of. i just want good sound quality) Up till now i've been looking at the Sony MDR V6 but i hear the Superlux 668b is also good , and the Monoprice 8323 as well for its price. I tried asking /g/ but they only really made it worse , they recommended the Koss portapros and the JVC HARX700 (and then ofc started arguing. as usual.)

What does yahoo recommend? Any audiophiles here that could help? Anything else you would recommend?
I listen to music mostly but i occasionally like gaming as well.
What i listen to: Guns N' Roses , The white stripes , The Raconteurs , The dead weather , Nirvana , Soundgarden , Scorpions , The offspring , Mastodon , Megadeth , Metallica , Testament , Baroness , Deadmau5 , Noisestorm , Noisia , Skrillex , Wolfgang Gartner , etc etc etc. Anything like what i mentioned counts.

I won't be using a dac or an amp. Thanks in advance

Answer
Looking at your music selection, the obvious choice is a Grado SR60i or Grado SR80i. They are the unassailable rock and metal champion. Not bad for electronic music too.

If you want closed headphones (isolation from outside noise but don't sound as good as open), I'd look into the Shure SRH440 or Brainwavz HM3.

Koss Portapros are also very good for their $30 price tag too, but Grados will totally destroy any of those headphones you mentioned for rock or metal music.

What are the best headphones for under $100?

Macro

Taking only sound quality and build quality into consideration. Cosmetics, portability, etc are not an issue for me. I just want amazing sound quality that will last me at least 3 or 4 years.

Ideally under $100, but I would consider something up to $150 if it's leaps and bounds better than anything I can get for under $100.
Also wanted to add they are purely for music listening. Nothing else. I want flat response and a wide frequency range.
Oh that's another thing, no headphone amp. I will be plugging them straight into my laptop or ipod.

Answer
I would suggest the Audio Technica M50's and the Creative Aurvana Live's.

I don't own either, but I own the Denon d1001's which are supposed to sound very similar to the CAL's (they're from the same maker). I find them to be nicely balanced, so you'll probably like them. A lot of people seem to prefer the M50's, which are also described as a good all-around pair, but stronger than the CAL's when it comes to bass. I don't think you can lose with either choice. And you won't need an amp with either pair.

A wide frequency range doesn't matter unless you're listening to analog recordings. Also, the equipment itself has to be capable of producing those ranges.

As for flatness of response, I don't know how to interpret response graphs, I get the feeling it requires somewhat of a trained eye. A perfectly flat response wouldn't sound flat to the human ear (e.g. white noise), because of how our brains work. So a pair of headphones with what looks like a flatter response (to the untrained eye) might actually sound less flat. Also, freq. response isn't always important because when headphones are used with an amp or a dac, the amp/dac has a sound signature of its own, so people can often match their headphones with a contrasting amp to balance them out. For these reasons, I haven't paid much attention to graphs as of yet. Usually I can get an idea of a headphone's style of sound from hearing what people say.

For more info (and any audio question in the future) you can check out the head-fi.org forum. I'm pretty new to audiophilia, those people know a lot more.

Help me find good headphones for PC games and videos?

Mahboi

I need to buy some new headphones because I'm tired of my old cheap ones. I mostly want to use them for playing PC games and watching YouTube videos. I want most of all voices to be very clear, but I would like music to sound good as well. I do not want them to have a built in mic, but want them to be over the ear. The most I can spend would be $80.

What would you reccomend?

Answer
I was researching headphones for an extensive period a short time ago and the following are what I discovered to be the best for the money. I'm sure there may be more headphones but this is quite an extensive list already.

They are all very recommended and well received budget headphones from members of Head-Fi.org. It will all come down to your preference, check them all out, read the reviews, you won't be disappointed with any of them to be honest.

Hi, I was wondering if any of you know any headphones for under 120$ that are DURABLE (won't break easily, and last a long time), RELIABLE (my last headphone kept turning off and on all the time and it was VERY annoying), and are for PC (no console headphones or anything, I just want to be able to plug it in via USB and be done with it). If anyone can find one for me that would be amazing! :D

Answer
Depends on what you do on your computer.
If you watch a lot of movies, listen to a lot of bassy music, and generally want a more "fun" sounding headphone, audiophile headphones + a $10 clip on mic is the way to go. I personally own the Audio Technica ATH-M50 with a $10 Zalman clip-on mic (totaling ~$130), and the sound on both is amazing. It's a bit cumbersome since there are two cables, but since they never move, it's not really a problem.

If you're a Counter-Strike pro who needs to listen to footsteps in B Tunnel, listens to orchestral/classical music, and doesn't care about bass, then the Audio Technica AD700 headphones + a $10 clip on mic (~$110) should work. The AD700s are known for their positional accuracy and their total lack of bass.

But of course, there are always ones that fit right in the middle of the two extremes. Most headsets I've used fall into this category. The SteelSeries Siberia V2 headset (~$70) is very neutral. It still has some positional accuracy along with some bass. Very light and comfortable. Two other headphones that need a clip on mic that are worth mentioning are the Shure SRH440 ($100) and Sennhesier HD449 ($90). Very neutral, maybe even moreso than the Siberias.

Most of these aren't USB, unfortunately.

Question about Headphones with Bass?

Sarahmb2

I'm looking to buy new over the ear headphones and I keep reading stuff about "lots of bass" or "great bass". I sort of know what that means, but is it the type of bass where you can't even really hear the music anymore and all you hear is the vibration. I don't want to loose the quality of the music. I know, for example, when listening to music in a car with a bass stereo, the bass and vibration overpowers the rest of the song, sometimes where you can't even hear the singing anymore. I just want to now if headphones with bass will be good, bad, overpowering, etc.

I'd really appreciate the help :)

Answer
most headphones don't have subwoofers in them so the bass doesn't tend to be overpowered, its almost always under powered, mostly because people use ipods with headphones which completely stifle the bass. bass is good, and with headphones its much easier not to have too much.

as long as a headphone is decent its generally the music playing device which controls, and limits the bass you hear.

i am obsessed with getting heaps of bass out of my headphones, which is why i have 2 sony walkmans e-series which have "clear bass". clear bass is the greatest feature ive ever seen on any music playing device ever. its AMAZING, and the people i show it too agree.

What are the best bass headphones?

Jeff

I want some headphones, the big ones, that make bass. LIke with the koss headphones, i was listenhing to like suicide by seether and the song was so much better with the booms that were like awesome. So what are some good cheap headphones that have bass.

Answer
Cheap headphones with bass? Well in terms of the the headphone spectrum, Sennheiser HD280pro headphones are great. They run about 80 bucks online and they fold up nicely. I've had a set for a few years now and they still work great. If you ever want some pricier middle of the road headphones, I'd recommend Sennheiser HD 595. I own these also and the sound is simply awesome. However, they aren't built to be trashed on like HD280's. HD280 is aimed at DJ's. Great bass response. HD595 is more of the audiophile market. Hope this helps.

Inexpensive, durable headphones?

Dana

I'd like headphones that are small/portable, can take a lot of abuse getting carried around in my bag, are capable of playing at a pretty high volume, and hopefully cost under about $20.

I have JVC marshmallows that I bought for about $3, great sound quality for the price, but I don't like how you have to squish the foam before sticking them in your ears, it's awkward in public. Also, I feel like it would be safer to have headphones that can let more outside sound in (though hopefully not making my music sound too loud to people near me).

I'm stuck at college in the middle of nowhere without a car, so I will be ordering online and shipping to New York.
What has the best sound quality within my requirements?
Thanks!

Answer
Target has some nice ones
If you want REALLY INEXPENSIVE ones, I would go to 5 below (might not last as long!)

What is a good pair of inexpensive headphones to use while recording?

Emily

I'm new to the world of recording technology. I recently bought myself a USB condenser microphone to record my singing and whatnot. Now, I'm looking into getting a good pair of inexpensive headphones to use while recording. Inexpensive as in costing no more than about $100 - $150. Any suggestions, please? If possible, can add you some detail as to why you suggested what you suggested? Please and thank you!

Answer
Ignore skullcandy and bose - skullcandy lose alot of the definition, using cheap components, bass raised on the eq etc., and bose don't sound natural, they sound nice, but they'll cover up recording problems you want to hear. Same with the Beats...you want a nice flat EQ for recording, ideally, not a pair of headphones with the bass cranked up.

Your main options really are:
Senheisser HD-25 (mk2 are best, SP would do if you have a tight budget)
Senheisser HD280 (bigger than the 25s but as good quality for cheaper)
Beyerdynamic DT 770/DT100
Audio Technica ATH910PRO

But generally, avoid in ears if doing vocals, they create an effect where you're hearing yourself through the headphones and through your head, which isn't useful. Try and avoid headphones designed for mp3 players as they tend to be designed to cover up artifacts in the playback, which is the complete opposite to what you want.

use Marshall mini-amp as preamp?

Antoine

I wonder if I could use a Marshal MS 2 as a preamp in order to use amplitube 3 or guitar rig?

guitar-->MS-2 IN-->MS-2 out-->line-in macbook

Answer
The only output on the MS-2 is headphone out, so I presume that's what you are planning on using. Read the bottom paragraph for how to do that.

On that amp there are no other components between the speaker and the headphone jack, so it's basically just a low power amp (about 1 watt) that doesn't need to be cut back for headphones. Many people don't understand what "line input" means. It means an input jack at a line level. "Line level" is a standard value that is generally 200 millivolts and is compatible with normal stereo equipment such as CD players, cassette decks, stereo receivers, etc. that generally use phono plugs. It is not considered directly compatible with microphones of any kind, guitars, guitar amp speaker outputs, HEADPHONE JACKS, or anything else that drives a speaker or HEADPHONE.

There is a way to plug a headphone output into a line input without blowing anything. Get one of those little inline volume controls meant for headphones (Best Buy, or any other large chain electronics store will have them - I generally stay away from Radio Shack, but in this case even they would probably have something usable), and you can use that to hold the otherwise way-too-loud signal from the headphone jack down to a level that will be reasonable for the line input. Good advice is to start at the lowest level then carefully adjust for sound quality.

*More info about home recording using a sound card/computer is on website below.

can i use a headphone amp / phono preamp to boost the mp3 signal to run it into a class T amp?

im recommended to use any powered mixer all i need is to bring up the mp3 signal to line level so that the amp can then amplify it all the way, the rolls mx51 is recommended, http://www.rolls.com/product.php?pid=MX51s but the phono preamps but phono jacks are much cheaper, and theyre already made to boost audio signal out except from a phonograph not an mp3, anyone think this wont work?
by the way, im going this route bc its the lightest and cheap its not meant for a car

Answer
I wouldn't use a phono preamp unless it has a selectable RIAA curve on/off switch, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization.

From one of my previous answers:

The power unit from the Philips SBA1503 portable speakers will do exactly what you want to do (I do the same with my HTC Touch Pro2 smartphone and portable MP3 player) and it runs on 3 AAAs so you have to remember to turn it off after each use but it is cheap and since it is self powered there is no power connection to the car hence less chance for ground loop noise. The 2 speakers plug into the power unit with a standard 3.5mm plug, just unplug them from the power unit and plug in your cable to the amp instead. http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Portable-Speaker-System-1503/dp/B0047Q0G70

Another answerer on the same question recommended the Boostaroo amp. http://boostaroo.com/store/product.php?productid=17521&cat=249&page=1

Best over ear headphones for under $150?

Josh

What are the best "bang for your buck"?

Answer
the best headphones of treble clarity and the sound stage would be a Sennheiser HD518. I have one on my head as i type. The bass has an audible and solid impact, but it will not deliver the desired sound for hip-hop or rap. Dubstep, techno, metal, rock, and pop are good with this set.

Bose AE-2s, i would say, deliver a bass much similar to that of the Sennheiser's. it has more noise isolation as the sennheiser's were built open-aire. It is the headphone of choice by many professionals. With a great mid range and decent treble, it excels at Country, Classic rock, techno and pop.

The World famous Shure audio company creates the Shure SRH-440 headphones. These cans have played a role in creating audio for many different types of movies and music. The voice talent of Optimus Prime in the transformers movie, and the old TV show, has used that gear for his recordings in the movies. These headphones are not meant for consumers, since they have none of the frills of normal cans. These headphones say "I'm here to give you accurate sound, nothing more, nothing less."

If you want noise cancellation, then check out the Sony MDR NC60

Best noise cancelling headphones for $150 or less?

da bears f

I love the Bose but I don't want to pay $300 for a pair of headphones.

Answer
Whatever headphones you go for, remember that through eBay and Froogle you might be able to find some for less. Also, they had decent noise canceling headphones 4 years ago-- and a set of 4-year-old headphones will cost much less than a newer model. For example, do those Bose headphones have an older model? They probably work almost as well as the newest model, and will be much less than $300.

A good bass-y song to test my headphones?

matthew G

I just bought myself the "Sony Walkman - NWZ-S544" along with "Sennheiser CX 300-II" in ear-headphones. They are made for people who love bass, and I wanted to test them to see there limits. Can someone name some songs that are HEAVY on the bass... I have already tried "The Great Destroyer - by Nine Inch Nails" but want something even heavier than that. I don't care about style because this is primarily for the bass testing

Answer
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy - it's awesome.

Any crazy bass/subwoofer test songs-PLEASE HELP?

what are the best over ear headphones under 40 dollars?

Greg

Its ok if they're a little over but i am looking at the skullcandy hesh and the sony MDR - XD200. Any other suggestions?

Answer
The XD 200 is a great pair. You obviously like bass if you are looking at those two, and the XD200s will blow away the skullcandy hesh. I say this having heard both. The hesh is one of the worst sounding headphones I've ever heard.

40-60 dollar headphones.? (EARBUDS)?

Isaac

I need some STYLISH & GOOD quality headphones. I have SC Titans and love them, but I'm thinking of getting a different type.. Just to get a different type. I wish I had the money for Dr. Dre's

Answer
Please do yourself a favour and do NOT buy Razer, Karl Kani, WESC, Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), be them fake or not! If REAL quality is an issue, please go for REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica, Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish".
