I take my music very seriously and want to hear everything that the mic picked up in the studio. I have Beats Mixrs and they sound good to me but apparently there are better because i look up beats quality and all I get is they're over rated pieces of crap. So i want to know what headphones to buy that are comfortable stylish and sound clear as possible i want to hear the sound like it should be heard no holding back loud and proud. For under 300$ of course.

Before i bought the headphones i was looking at a pair of V-MODA headphones and although i didnt get them, i liked the case and was wondering if they would fit my pair of SOL's.

caclucate the original price of ipod and add the headphone price. The apps im not so sure about...depends what they are. If they are fairly big title eg: fifa, madden then i should say you can add at least 70$ more to the price. All in all i cant tell u how much u should sell. but if you add the prices together; u should be able to work out a reasonable 'used' price from there

I need gain or volume boost and treble and bass controls. Don't need pro audio quality. I transcribe recorded spoken voice files, and sometimes the sound quality is bad. I used to have a pair of small speakers with a subwoofer, and I plugged my headphones into one of the speakers that had volume and treble and bass controls, but the speaker system broke. I'd like to maybe get a headphone amp that does the same thing rather than get a whole new speaker system (unless new speakers would be cheaper). Thanks.

The original source of what I transcribe is a phone, and some of what I transcribe is dictated on a cell phone in a car or maybe on a speaker phone 10 feet away or on a just plain crappy phone that sounds like there's a blanket over the phone. The quickest and easiest thing for me to do in these cases is just turn up the volume a little and roll off the bass and turn up the treble. I need quick and easy (and inexpensive).

If transcribing audio, although you don't have to invest hundreds of dollars, you probably need more than the $10 toys.

There is the cheaper and more expensive FiiO's and Beach is selling them at a decent price.
You also do need a decent set of headphones that are both comfortable and really clear on the mid-range sounds. I don't think treble and bass are key unless to turn them down.
You could add in a software audio equalizer.
I won't dig into them now, but browse through Nonags.com for freeware and see what you come up with.

As to headphones, you need to decide whether sound isolation is important. The open-back design sometimes does a lot better in the sound, but does leak out and in to neighboring people and environmental sounds.
Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones at about $160 - maximum isolation and ultimate comfort these rate amound the best at the under $200 in any review.
Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil at under $70 - probably too high on the bass, but these headphones make all sounds loud.
Creative Aurvana Live! at about $60 - build quality is not as good as others, and bass a bit weak, but the sound reproduction in the midrange seems to be right-on and price a value.
Grado Prestige Series SR80i at about $100 - Some find the pads uncomfortable and it leaks sound as an open-back, but the audio is full and crisp.

I think a lot of the sound quality will be in your headphone choice more than anything else, but laptops and even desktop pc's just don't have the best audio amplifying. In a desktop PC, you can invest in an over $60 sound card that would boost quality and you should look into reviews if that is where you are at. They often come with equalizer software.

How do you fix a Loose Headphone Jack on a Zune?

My Zune has been having a headphone jack related problem. Whenever I listen to it, it cuts out and I have to twist the my plug-in to try and receive full sound again. It's gradually gotten worse over time. I really don't want to buy a new Zune or even want to pay to get it fixed. So, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

First make sure it isn't the headphones. A loose wire in the headphones can be the problem. My speakers are the same way. I'll lose sound then manipulate the cord and the sound is back to normal. If you know it isn't the headphones and the Zune is still under warranty then dig up the receipt and call Microsoft.

Ok, so I have a Ipod touch, 16gb and most of the files on it are ALAC files, converted from FLAC files, and my headphone have just recently died on me. The question I have is, if I get really good headphones (around $100-$200) would I really hear a difference in quality? Yes, definitely get the high quality earphones. The difference is amazing.
May I suggest the klipsch image s4, they are less than 100 bucks, but they sound much better. Monster turbines are pretty good too, but a little more expensive

It all depends on your mixer and recording setup....sounds to me like the your vocal mic is panned to one side...i.e. if you can only hear your voice in the left ear, your mic is panned all the way to the left...make sure it is centered...

High Pitched Noise from my Amplifier when Overdrive is On and no Headphones are plugged in?

For some reason, every time I play my Guitar with my Amp turned on to the Overdrive channel and without Headphones, a High pitched shriek comes out of the Amp.
This usually occurs when I have my Volume knob on the Amp turned up to >6 and my Gain knob
turned up >6 as well.
This never ever happens when I play my Guitar through the Clean Channel, even when I max out the
Gain knob and the Volume knob on my Amp.
My Amplifier is a Marshall Valvestate 2000 AVT 50 115 Watt Amp.
Help would be appreciated thanks.

You are getting feedback. Feedback happens with overdrive and too much gain and volume.
you have a 50 watt amp.(I just looked at the manual for it)
And it's a tube amp which is pretty loud.
Turn your "overdrive" volume down in a small closed environment or the guitar will pick up the speaker output and cause feedback.(ever heard a vocal microphone squeal on a PA system? same thing is happening to your guitar.)
It doesn't happen with headphones because the sound is coming out of the headphones and the guitar pickups don't "hear it".

It doesn't happen on clean channel because there is no overdrive and boosted gain. If you had a distortion effect pedal on the clean channel it would do that, too.

When you have the amp turned up loud, (and >6 is pretty loud) you need to be #1, facing away from the amp and #2, a good distance away from it.

Not to be "that guy" but Beats by Dr. Dre are not really good quality phones. If you like their sound, then their price point should be around the $40-50 range. I don't know anyone who loves their Beats, but has also tried other "real" headphone brands. By real, I mean companies that pretty much ONLY make headphones. Like: Sennheiser, Audio Technica, AKG, Shure, Grado etc.

Personally, I love the ATH-M50 ($160.00)They are studio phones and are neutral sounding (meaning they are great for listening to all sorts of music and movies). They have a good soundstage and an appropriate amount of bass. The mids and highs are clear and distinct, and the bass is tight and punchy and there's plenty of it.

The Pro700mk2s ($180) are similar to the ATH-M50s in that it has great sound, but it has a ton of bass. If you love bass, it is a phenomenal set of phones. Unlike the Beats, the bass is accurate, tight and hefty. The mids aren't as clear as with the M50s, but that's what you get with an abundance of bass. Some people don't like the ear foam piece, but you can buy the earpiece from the ATH-M50 and use them on it.

The Grado Prestige SR80i ($90) is a phenomenal audiophile quality set of cans for around $90.00. Some people have complained of poor build quality as far as plastic goes. Just an fyi, some people are harder on their headphones than others. They are widely acclaimed headphones and work well.

Sennheiser has a great line of headphones. Sennheiser tends to have a darker (not as cheerily bright sounding as some other headphones) sound to them. They usually have great bass and decent mids and highs. The HD-280 Pros ($97) are good cans. Open eared cans are widely acclaimed by them, such as the HD558s ($180). I have used them and I love the sound from an open ear set of headphones.

I also have the Audio Technica AD700s ($100). They aren't for everyone. They have magnificent soundstage and not a lot of bass (which is a plus for me). They are super comfy and have wonderful mids and highs.

As far as looks go, well that's a personal choice. I do think the Beats have a cool look to them. But now everyone has them. Frankly, I find that if you really want great headphones, they have to be comfortable too. Headphones tend to have a look to them that is tried and true as being comfortable. Beats, in all reality, are not super comfortable. But they aren't the worst I've ever seen.

I'll put some links down below where you can read reviews and see the pricing. Also, you can see if they look good to you or not. But quality should really come first.

You could buy more expensive headphones that are cheaper than Beats, but some of them need a headphone amp to show any potential. The AKG 701/702 ($270) is probably the best I've ever heard under $500.00, but it needs a headphone amp to let its potential shine and isn't really a take along with you type of headphone.

I need a keyboard or digital piano that will fit well in a dorm room. It needs to have pedals,weighted keys, authentic sound and be under $1000. What type would be the best? (It doesn't have to have a lot of fancy features, just do what a normal piano can do)

If you give up the weighted key option, and go for synth action, then take a look at the M-Audio 88. My husband has a gorgeous Steinway downstairs, but for the classical music weddings and other such gigs we play (certainly not concerts! Those have to be a really fine grand!) then we take this. It has two pedals (sustain and sostenuto!), weighs 17 pounds, and has decent piano sounds - not all the outer-space stuff you do not need. You can listen with headphones, or run it thru an amp. Please get a good stand - one with four good legs, not an X stand. Musicians Friend has one for around $85 that folds to a letter L, but opens into two Ys connected with a bar - very stable, and you can even put a shett of wood on it to make a table for extra guests. I bought one for my school - adjustable in almost every parameter, can hold a big mixer, etc. Aldo get an adjustable bench - you can get a 4-leg crankup (artist) bench for less than $100 - same place. Again, beats the X-leg bench. If you do not like the pedal that comes with it ( small, square, if I remember - we have a tons of extra things here) then get traditionally-shaped pedals. Place a conventional GOOD folding music stand in front, and get good lighting that clips on. You will be all set!

We own 5 electric keyboards and a fine Steinway squaretail A - and of course they cannot be compared - but for what they are,a decent electric keyboard beats a crappy acoustic piano.

Send PC audio to home theater system?

I have my desktop computer at home which has an Asus sabertooth X79 motherboard in it. I recently bought a home theater system to do away with lots of cables running around the room and for better sound. I have a Yamaha RX-V573 5.1 that i need to connect the audio to. I would like to know my options. I have been reading around on the internet and found many solutions to this problem but unsure if they will work in my situation:
A HDMI & Optical to HDMI converter
3.5mm to rca
sound card with optical
spidf
setting graphics card to carry sound.

If you could help me with options i have and basically how to hook it up that would be greatly appreciated.

I looked up your motherboard specs (did not look at pictures).
= s/pdif optical cable to s/pdif optical output on pc to s/pdif optical input on receiver. Look below for more details.
- It has 6 colored analog outputs, these 4 ports called green fronts, black rears, grey sides, and orange subwoofer+center = are for computer speakers.
- It has a 1 s/pdif optical output port = use that for your receiver.
- S/pdif optical will do up to 5.1 with the non-hd lossy surrround sound formats or uncompressed stereo.
- Music is encoded in stereo and I recommend max quality lossless flac or max quality aac (aac/mp4/m4a is the new audio standard and is better than the old audio standard called mp3).
- Movies are usually encoded in 5.1. You should be able to find plenty of lossy formats and some loseless too while the loseless formats you will also find they do up to 7.1.
= If you want to do up to 7.1 and/or the hd loseless surround sound formats then you would need a hdmi output = someday when you upgrade your computer's soundcard.

I looked up your receiver.
- It can do up to the hd lossless or non-hd lossy surround sound formats or uncompressed stereo.

For audio cables: From best to least:
- HDMI or Displayport cables: is capable of up to 8 channels of audio and up to 24-bit-depth with up to 192,000hz sample rate at the lossless/hd compression surround sound formats.
- S/PDIF coaxial or s/pdif optical cables: is capable of up to 6 channels of audio and up to 20-bit-depth (16 or 24 optional) with up to 48,000hz sample rate at the lossy/non-hd compression surround sound formats.
- Scart or RCA R/W composite audio cables: is capable of up to 2 channels of audio and analog has maximum audio quality. RCA G/B/G/B/T/P for other channels.
- (Hdmi, displayport, s/pdif coaxial, s/pdif optical is digital audio), (scart or rca r/w or headphone jack is analog audio).

- Once you have the pc hooked up to the receiver (select receiver input mode and any other settings).
- I recommend these best free media players which are k-lite codec pack for media player classic or vlc player or kmplayer.
- Example: ffdshow for k-lite on mpc -> ffdshow audio decoder settings -> output -> select surround sound formats the cable and receiver supports and it will play what ever the file is encoded in (it passthroughs the surround sound untouched). (Go to media information to look at video/audio specs).
- If you want to touch the audio before you play it, you can edit it with a audio editor like audacity, I recommend you amplfy the channels to a maximum new peak of -0.1 which is below the clipping level. You can do what ever else you want to.ect then export and then play it on what ever media player you got.

Why does music sound higher pitched when louder?

I've noticed that when wearing both headphones, music sounds almost a semitone higher than it does if I wear just one? Does anyone know why this happens? I assume it is something to do with the volume as I have noticed an even more drastic discrepancy in perceived pitch inside and outside of a club.

Human ears are sensitive to a certain bandwidth of frequencies. Picture a bell shaped curve with mid-range freqs being at the top of the curve. The extreme lows and extreme highs are harder for us to hear. By increasing the volume, the extreme highs (and lows) are easier to pick up. Extreme highs have a harder time penetrating walls or other obstructions. Lows, on the other hand go through walls and floors much easier.

I don't really know much about sound quality, headphones, music players..

First question: Okay so I have a Sony 4GB Walkman MP3 Player. Does this mp3 player have bad sound quality or are all music devices the same? I know it depends on the quality of the song too. Also are all headphones compatible with my mp3 player? I know there are some headphones that are made for apple products but does that mean i cant use them on this?

Second question: What over the head headphones should I get that would work with this? I was looking at the Blueant Embrace Stereo Headphones but I don't know much about headphones. I just want something that could block as much sound as possible, sound good, and look okay. Oh and not too expensive so maybe up to like $200. Any ideas?

I know some of the Walkman model had sound issues (but I don't remember which series) but I think it was only one or two. Most of the Sony Walkmans are o.k, but I haven't tried them myslef lately.
I think all headophones with the proper jack (3.5mm) will work - I think the problem is relevant to smartphones (and not music players).

If you want something that blocks sounds from the outside you need to think if you want to get an active noise cancelling pair - or a passive one:
A passive one means it cover your ears well so it creates a "mini sound room" in each ear (the isolation is far from being good, but will do for most bus rides). An active ones is a pair that creates white noise to shield outside noise- they work with AA or AAA batteries and cost more.

Altec-Lansings have great sound quality with bass boost. They make maybe four or five different ones with the inline mic, too, but the ones available at their web site are more expensive than the ones in some stores. If you live in the midwest where there are Miejer stores, they carry them in the cellular accessories department, not in iPod accessories. Or go to Altec-Lansing.com. If you don't need the mic, Sony and Logitech are your next best bets for sound quality, durability and a moderate price.

For the audiophiles out there, is there a noticeable loss in sound quality using an iphone adapter?
