What are the best headphones for rock music?

Ryan Gibbo

I'm looking to buy a new pair of Over-The-Ear headphones. I pretty much only listen to Rock music: punk, pop-punk, hard rock, classic rock, a little metal. They'll also probably be used a little for watching movies and TV and what not. What brand should I be looking at for the best quality? Thanks, y'all.

Answer
Syllable G08 headphones is the best for listening to Rock music, watching movie and TV. Its key feature have great noise cancelling, powerful bluetooth wireless function, best hifi sound, high quality and reasonable price.

best headphones 50 pounds image

Jonas

can someone tell me what the best way's to earn money on the internett, and how i can easily do it?

Answer
I made a couple of hundred pound using this method although it is sort of wrong but read on...

I CAN GURANTEE YOU MAKE MONEY WITHOUT ANY MONEY NEEDED TO BEGIN ( I TRIED TO EXPLAIN MY BEST )

I made an ebay and paypal account, i then went to a website i found called dhgate.com but theres many more like it like dealextreme.com and many more. Anyway on these sites you get replica products i have some myself there usually good. Anyway what i did was found a product i thought would sell which for me was 'Beats by dre headphones the studio, solo HD and detox versions. These cost for example the studio ones cost £280 but from these websites they are £50.

Ok so what you do is, say you do the headphones, get a picture of the headphones but change the background or something if you can ( you don't have to ) to make it look like its actually your picture and not just one from google. Now put them on ebay for whatever you want lets say £150, someone buys them after a while and you now have £150 in your paypal. Now you go to DHgate or whatever site and order the headphones you put up but instead enter the person's who bought them address. That would leave you with £100 you then pay your ebay charges which for something like that would be probably £10 leaving you with £90 profit and you don't even have to worry about posting anything. So imagine getting that £90 profit a few times a day sounds good eh? This method is called drop shipping by the way which means it is shipped straight from the supplier to the buyer instead of from the supplier to the reseller (you) then to the customer.

Why volume levels on my laptop change at random?

Suri

Just bought an HP Envy m6 running Windows 8 and when I stream videos the audio gets softer with loud noises and louder with soft noises and all around changes volume in seemingly random areas. I have never had this problem with any other computer and happens mostly when I stream youtube. I work in radio and notice when what should be a pounding bass drum is muted by a softness.

This is going from an 2008 HP desktop to a brand new HP laptop, using the same speaker set as I did with the desktop. It is so noticeable it is driving me crazy.

I have updated drivers, disable the "beats audio" that came with it and everything I can think of short of things that will shut sound off completely. It is most noticeable with headphone but I notice it no matter what I am using it with.

Also when I have the laptop turned to roughly 50% volume it sounds great that way as it always has with any computer for me. Once I plug the headphones in it blasts me with volume and not like turning it down to 40% will help it. It has to go down all the way to 5% or 10% to be bearable. These problems are so annoying because I listen to music all the time on my old desktop but I don't have it anymore. HELP!!!

Answer
I suggest that you scan your computer with RadarSync and follow what it says.
You can get radarsync from here. www.radarsync.com - It's an automatic driver detection and update program.

What headphones are better than Beats by Dre?

good headphones 2011 image

EderM971

I have $100 to spend. I have read that Beats by Dr. Dre are too expensive for the quality of sound it provides and Sennheiser for $100 don't provide enough bass.

For $100 what pair of headphones will give me my money's worth best? I will only be using the headphones to listen to music and use on my laptop.

Answer
Sony Extra Bass. {Price Range $50.00 to $130} I have them and are very happy with them. Excellent bass, and sound quality. I tried my friends Beats By Dr. Dre and immediately went back to the Sony Extra Bass.
Some Reviews:
-The Headphones are SO VERY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
-Date:February 1, 2012
-Pros: PUMPS OUT GREAT BASS/GREAT SOUND/GREAT PRICE/CASE IS INCLUDED!
-Cons: There is not enough padding around the band that goes around your head, but plenty of comfort/padding for your ears!
So my review of this product is there very awesome high quality headphones! The sound is AMAZING!!!!! The BASS is like AWESOME!!!!!! BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!! & for what your getting for the price is just CRAZY!!!! You get a carrying Case with the headphones!!!!! & the headphones WAAAAY BETTER then Dr. Dre's as you save $170 BUCKS!!!!!(Studio) Or ($270 BUCKS if it's the PRO) & They PUMP OUT WAY BETTER & MORE BASS!!!!!! The only con is they really need to get some more padding on the band that goes around your head, but other then that, there AWESOME! & they have PLENTY of padding for your EARS!!!!! I mean, the padding for your ears are big as sleeping pillows, so don't worry about that :)
My final review... ALTHOUGH THE COMFORT WITH LACK OF PADDING IS A CON FOR ME... THE HEADPHONES HAVE AN AWESOME PUMPING BASS! HAVE AWESOME SOUND!!!!! AND HAVE A GREAT VALUE!!!!!! WORTH IT!!!!! ESPECIALLY OVER THE DR's Headphones!!!!!

The Headphones That Make Audiophiles Happy
Date:November 7, 2011
Pros: Rock Solid Frame, Rock Solid Sound
Cons: Personally: Cable Length
As said in the 'pros' section, the frame is quite robust. Since it is a 50 mm driver headphone, it would be quite heavy when you put it on your head but it's actually quite comfortable. After prolonged use, the frame flexes back into its original position preserving the headphone's original packaged presentation. (I would not recommend putting these around your neck and just use the included carrying pouch for transportation.)
Sony has had quite the reputation for producing some serious speakers in the past and it definitely shows with the XB700's. The bass doesn't explode in your ears, unless you want it to of course, courtesy of the ability to handle 3 watts of power, and the trebles are clear and crisp; despite this being a bass-heavy headphone. From classical and contemporary to trance and vocals, these headphones will reproduce all of the sounds with great precision and balance.
Overall, these headphones exceed most of my expectations of functionality and durability save for cable length. Though a longer length would probably mean that someone would carelessly step on the cable. I guess these headphones are not meant to be shared so why not make a stop at your local Sony Store and pick the headphones that make audiophiles happy.(hide)

When i installed new Windows 8 my front audio socket doesn't work why.

My speakers connect to the rear socket working fine.

One more thing i heard that under Windows 8 i can install free Office 2013 basic version where i can download it.

Answer
Hi,

Since you just upgraded your Operating system to windows 8, many of the drivers are not compatible.

To update your drivers, go to your computer brand website and under support, you should find a place to find and download the drivers to your computer model. Under the audio tab, you can download the drivers for the sound card.

I am actually not sure about office 2013.

What should I do to get best sound from my video game consoles?

mer

Hi all, I have a hometheater setup process that I need some help with to connect everything together for best sound quality. I have a Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and a cable box that I want to connect. My receiver is a Sony 5.2 receiver STR-DH540 with two optical in and I have 5 speakers connected to it for surround.

To get the best sound quality as possible, should I connect all of my devices with HDMI to my receiver then a HDMI from receiver to the TV? Or should I do the opposite and connect everything first to the TV and then run a optical cable from my TV to my receiver?

My TV is pretty new (Sony Bravia W905 topmodel from 2013), but if I do the latter will the sound quality get any worse? I have just two optical ports on my receiver and I need to connect 4 devices, so that's why I'm unsure on how to do all this or if I need to connect any optical cables at all meaning if HDMI sound signals is more than enough for getting surround sound.

Thanks in advance!

Answer
- You will lose audio quality if you use a s/pdif optical cable (for hd movies) and if you use the tv (not connecting devices directly to receiver) you may also lose even more audio quality because the tv has to have the decoders for surround sound and if the tv does not then you will only get uncompressed PCM stereo.

- First hdmi cable to hdmi output on computer or Blu-ray player or DVD player or game console to hdmi input on receiver for HD audio, then second hdmi cable to hdmi output on receiver to hdmi input on tv for HD video.
- Receiver menu -> manual setup -> hdmi setup -> hdmi audio setup -> send audio to amp (not passthrough to tv). (hdmi video passthroughs to tv untouched). Compatible passive speakers hook up to the receiver (amplifier) with red and black speaker wire. (You can find good cheap cables at monoprice or amazon).

= (Audio cables: DisplayPort, HDMI, S/PDIF Optical, or S/PDIF Coxial carry digital audio). (Red/White or Headphone jack only carry stereo/2.0 analog audio).
- DisplayPort to Displayport cable (v1.0 to v1.2) or HDMI to HDMI cable (v1.3 to v1.4) cable: Up to 7.1/24bit/96khz or 5.1/24bit/192khz with formats such as (uncompressed PCM) or (loseless DTS-HD-MA or Dolby TrueHD) or (lossy DTS-HD-HR or Dolby Digital Plus). Up to 5.1/24bit/48khz with formats such as (lossy DTS or Dolby Digital). (6.1/24bit/48khz with lossy DTS-ES Discrete). (5.1/24bit/96khz with lossy DTS 96/24).
- S/PDIF Optical to S/PDIF Optical cable or S/PDIF Coxial to S/PDIF Coxial cable: Up to 5.1/24bit/48khz with formats such as (lossy DTS or Dolby Digital). (6.1/24bit/48khz with lossy DTS-ES Discrete). (5.1/24bit/96khz with lossy DTS 96/24). (2.0/24bit/192khz with uncompressed PCM).
= Tip: If you have a receiver (input deveice) and/or output device that does not support DTS-HD-MA, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD-HR, or Dolby Digital Plus bitstreams, you can tell your output device to decode it into PCM and then send it over the hdmi cable to the receiver (receiver has to support multi-channel PCM).

Are the Beats by Dre headphones worth it?

best headphones consumer reports

best headphones consumer reports image
Q. I'm thinking about getting either the pro or studio Beats by Dre headphones, but they cost $300 for the studio or $400 for the pro. I would just be using them for listening to music on my computer or phone, but I want good headphones that have noise cancelling and good bass. Are they worth the price? And is there a big enough difference between the studio and pro to pay $100 more for the pro? I couldn't really hear a difference when I compared them at a Best Buy.

Answer
According to the August 2012 issue of Consumer Reports, the best tested headphones are the Grado SR80i on-ear headphones (with headband) priced at $100 (test score of 86). These are followed by the Grado SR60i on-ear ($80, 76), Klipsch Image S4i in-ear ($100, 76), Dr. Dre Monster Beats in-ear ($90, 76), and the Nixon MicroBlaster in-ear ($100, 76). The last three of these have built-in controls. There are other models by JVC, Bose, Sennheiser, and Sony for between $40 and $90 that have very good sound. You don't have to spend over $100 to get good sound (the Grado SR80i phones have excellent sound). One thing to watch is the sensitivity level of the phones - make sure the ones you decide to buy will work well with your phone.

What is the best bluetooth headset for listening to music on yr cell phone?

klban

I have a samsung u520 (alltel). I am more interested in listening to music than phone calls.

Answer
Plantronics is the highest-rated brand of Bluetooth headsets hands-down, no matter which independent testing agency you ask (JD Power, Consumer Reports, Telephia, CNET)

Plantronics' music headset is the Pulsar 590 (or 590a). It is the one I use and usually retails for $149.99, but you can almost always talk the salesman down to around $125 or $130. It's got an amazing guarantee. Here are some of the features:

* Stereo!!! (many only play in mono)
* Doubles as headset for voice (Jabra doesn't do this)
* Comes with carrying case, USB charging cable, desktop charging stand, and extra voice tube.
* Has external control functions (play/pause, skip, stop, etc) for your music so you can leave your phone in your pocket
*Comes with 3.5mm Bluetooth adapter for your PC, Home Stereo, TV, DVD player, etc... so that you can use the headphones for more than just your phone (these usually cost around $40 bought separately, plus they're rarely high quality or high range, and this one comes automatically paired to the headset)
*Most importantly, the speakers are LOUD (I have to turn mine down to less than half volume to listen comfortably) but can be turned down very low to where they're almost not audible if necessary
*It is the most comfortable music headset I have ever used, bluetooth or otherwise

I have a problem the music on the phone is loud but once you put the headphones on its really low can anyone help me! How do I make the headphones louder?

Answer
If you have the volume up all the way on the phone it could be your headphones. If they were not provided through the cell company specfically for that phone and they are just some you picked up at like target or something the resistance might be too high for the headphones and you wouldnt be able to hear to well. If they are made for that phone then you might have to check with the service provider and see what the recomend.

I need suggestions of what headphone, microphone and webcam is recommended for me.

1st, I would like to have a headphone-stereo and has many features/latest.
2nd, Microphone (something like the one people use to record your voice/singing)
3rd, Webcam (a clear graphic and if support records sound as well)
*this is all for singing purpose.

Answer
If your goal is to record yourself when singing, I recommend Kodak Zi6. It's great for HD recording and the mic is working pretty good.
If you want to focus on recording audio, you should buy a good USB mic

Did anyone else have a problem hooking up the headphones/microphone to RosettaStone?

Iris Q

I am trying to connect the headphones/microphone to my computer using the USB port. but my computer does not even recognize it. plus i tried to going to "sounds and audio devices" through "Control Panel" and i dont know which one the headphones is. can anyone help?

Note: when attempting, the sound initialization process in RosettaStone, the software does not recognize any sound and shuts down.

Answer
This is most likely a problem with your "jack sense" as your computer does not know which plug to dedicate to your headphones. In control panel there should be a tab for audio effects, if not go to sound and audio. You should see another tab for "jack sensibility" or something to do with which plug to assign for speaker, line in, or mic. Often this is on auto and gets it wrong, so you may have to re-scan your jacks, or just switch to maunal and assign them yourself

I am in need of good headphones under 60$ I kinda liked skullcandy hesh but i heard they are cheap and i tried sennhieser and audio techna but STILL those reviews on them were pretty bad so please HELP!

Answer
If REAL quality is an issue, please go for REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica, Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish" indeed. Please do NOT fall a victim to FASHION ACCESSORIES by buying Sol/Republic, Benetton, a-jays, iFrogz, Marley, Fanny Wang, Razer, Karl Kani, WESC, Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), BE THEM FAKE OR NOT!

PS. You definitely need to re-read those reviews (or skip them and read some REAL reviews), because they are most likely written by people who have already fallen victims to the fashion gimmicks and who only want thumping bass overdriving the rest of music.

How long would you stay in admin assist job?

Diamond

I've been out of college for about 3 1/2 years now. I recently got my first full time permanent position as an administrative assistant. I'm hoping I can last a couple of years at my current job and thought when I got the job that it would be more interesting than my last job (data entry) but it's EXTREMELY boring. I thought being an admin would be a job where you have multiple duties and are busy most of the time. But most of the time I have nothing to do but "busy" work like alphabetizing forms. I'd rather do the data entry job because at least I could listen to my headphones, music, audio books, etc to keep me entertained and it was very fast paced with hourly goals to meet.

I'm also supposed to be the "receptionist" but no one really comes in the building but the mail man. To top it off, my boss told me they were going to get a reception desk where I'd be able to actually SEE who's coming in and out so I can greet people, but instead they have me sitting behind a tall cubicle and expect me to jump up and see who's coming in whenever I hear the door open (which is mostly other employees coming in and out. (I got in trouble once because the UPS man came in and I didn't see him/didn't take the packages from him). It's really annoying being bored with nothing to do for about 75% of my 8 hour days with not much else to do but surf the internet. I want to stay as long as I can because I hate to job hop but I can't see myself doing this for very long. How long would you suggest staying in a position such as this without future employers raising their eyebrows? I plan to stay at least 1 year. I think the biggest problem is I'm used to working in an environment where you're always busy and this is one where I'm RARELY busy. I spend lots of days going around asking coworkers if they need help with anything but there's only so much they have.
So Katie what would you suggest I do to spend my time wisely at work other than what I'm already doing which is going around asking other people if the need help, which is also what my boss told me to do when I asked about more work? And I'm not the only one, I've talked to a couple of people in other departments and they've told me the same thing. One of the accountants said she's bored most of the time too and spends most of her day on the internet planning her wedding. Another person told me they've been working there about a year and most of the time still don't know what they're supposed to be doing.

Answer
If you have different software programs on your computer that you are unfamiliar with, you might want to teach yourself them so that you can put it on your resume.

Don't go around saying you are bored. Just keep asking to help more. The more you learn the more valuable you will be if a different job becomes available at the office.

Maybe you can get a bell that rings when the door opens?

I know a girl who is selling her brand new iPod touch 5G for $375 with 3 cases and headphones but I currently need a new cell also and was considering the iPhone 5. I guess my question is: Should I buy the touch or wait an invest in a iPhone 5? I can't really afford a contract cell but have looked into some from ebay. Another question..how does "unlocked" cells work? Can I use them on a prepay service for awhile until I can afford a contract?

Answer
In your case since you are looking to get a phone anyways, I would get a phone. If you dont have the money then get 4, not the latest but cheaper and still a good phone.

This is by far the cheapest plan available and it includes iphones:
---
Starting on January 11, 2013 in more than 2,000 Walmart stores and online at Walmart.com, customers now have access to the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 on Straight Talk's $45 no contract unlimited talk, text and data plan. To make this offer even more affordable, Walmart will be offering customers who purchase the phone in the store, a no interest fixed-monthly payments special financing offer for only $25 a month with a Walmart Credit Card.

Do you any of you guys know if you can still use the beats headphones studio 2013 for pro studio monitoring?

Answer
I suppose you could. Be advised, however, if you take those fashion accessories into a pro audio environment, you will be laughed right out of the studio. Taking beats into any professional audio environment will instantly brand the wearer as a naive child who knows nothing about audio.

I do a lot of lawn mowing on a riding lawn mower, and would really like to be able to listen to music while mowing. What are some good inexpensive ($50 or less) over ear headphones that would block out the sound from the mower so that I don't have to crank up the volume too loud?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
You need a closed-back design like the Sennheiser HD205...around £35 in UK. $45 in USA
http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/product/sennheiser-hd205-closed-back-headphone-professional-headphones/81532201.html . . .
The HD200 series headphones are of good quality apart from the cheapest 201 which isn't a great success by Sennheiser standards, and includes models like the 215 and 218 used in many professional studios..
215 on here 7 lines down and I now have some 570s....whooopeeeeeee!
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091020042309AAXRaHT . . . . .
There are also the 300, 400 etc series headphones with the some of the 600 series phones costing over $300, and the extra special limited edition electrostatic headphone and matching amplifier individually hand built and matched to be perfect partners ...as near as possible with current technology.
....the Sennhieser Orpheus at $20 000+ new....if you can find some.
http://www.avland.co.uk/sennheiser/orpheus/ . . . . . .
Only 300 were made making the resale price very high. This one, with two headphones, went for more than $26 000 second-hand.
http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/135580.aspx . . . . .
It's only rival for sound quality is the Stax Omega 11 for the price of a couple of decent ride-on lawnmowers but the Sennheiser HD800 comes close enough to the Stax for a third of the price.

My favourite ( back to affordable kit) is the HD570 Symphony headphones but they are now discontinued and hard to find ( took me months to track some down) , and I also use the HD 580 and HD595 for serious listening, and the HD500 as everyday big phones, which all completely cover the ears and keep external noise at bay reasonably well, and the smaller HD25 for traveling....the same model as was used on all Concorde flights...which are also good at suppressing external noise but don't cover the ears completely like the 205 and the others mentioned.

You can also get noise canceling headphones but those that work well tend to be very expensive.
Ordinary terms (high street terms) expensive that is, not ultra-crazy expensive like the Orpheus.

Do headphones have a better audio quality than earphones?

Dan Delean

I was wondering if it is worth replacing my earphones with a headphones set. I am interested in achieving a high-quality sound although my earphones are capable of doing that. The problem is I can not compare them because i have never used headphones. Also, I can see that some of today`s headphones include a digital noise reduction programme. Can you please mention some reasons for buying a set of headphones?

Answer
If you compare a high end earphone with a low end headphone, then no. But if they're on the same level, then headphones would have slightly better audio than earphones.

My friend is having a b-day party but can't afford a dj. I said I could do it, and the mixing of the music isnt my problem, I just need to knowr whether or not ill need a splitter for the input to my laptop or not. If i do, what is the splitter going to be like, and if i dont, would i just plug the speakers into my "line out" port then?

Answer
As long as you don't need to do any pre-listening (listening to songs through headphones while other content is playing through the speakers) you can just plug a cable from the line out of the laptop to the inputs on an amplifier.

How good are Dre Beats for studio work?

Euan

I need to get some new headphones for mixing and listening. I have listened to a friend's Dre Beats with my iPod and they sound amazing, but I don't know if they'll be as good for mixing and producing because of the frequency changes. I produce mainly rock music so I need a flat frequency response to get the best idea, but are Dre Beats good enough for both?

Answer
Don't get Dre Beats. From what I have seen people who know what they are doing tend to dislike Dre Beats and prefer brands like Sennheiser. Look on Newegg.com and browse DJ headphones for ones with lots of good reviews you will save money and get better quality headphones.

What are the best microphones to record yourself singing on your computer?

George

I'm an aspiring jazz/blues musician and I've written a lot of music, but need to record it. I'm going to be getting a new laptop this January and need to buy a good microphone to connect up to it. What are the right sort of ones to go for? I'm willing to spend a good amount of money on it. Advice?

Answer
An audio interface (Focusrite's are great) + a mic (MXL 2003a, Blue Spark, AT2035, blue encore 100, Shure SM57/SM58, etc) + DAW (Cockos Reaper) + Studio Headphones and/or Monitors.

There you have an affordable pro recording solution.

What are some good quality headphones?

Cat

I am looking for some great quality headphones and I'm wondering what kind is a good choice. And those SkullCandies that are popular now are NOT good quality. And I'm considering Bose headphones.
Well, I really want the Sennheiser HD800 , but there it's like $1500
and I only like Skull Candy for their design and look.

Answer
Sennheiser 800's yeah me too! I'll have to stick with my HD280's for now. Sennheiser is a good brand as are AKG and Grado. AKG's generally have a wider spacious sound at expense of some power and weight in the bass. So far I like my HD280 headphones and at 100 bucks they're a real value for the quality and durability you get. I had Sony MDR-CD570 'phones before the Sennheisers and they have a more accentuated sound in the bass and treble so they sound "punchier" and better to start with but listening fatigue sets in after a while where the HD 280's just sound better the longer I listen. Can't go wrong quality wise with AKG, Grado or Sennheiser, just pick the sound you prefer. for pop/rock probably Sennheiser and their neutral sound with powerful bass. For classical/jazz AKG for their wide imaging, Easy listening/vocal Grado for their warmth with still a sense of spaciousness.

How do you fix a Loose Headphone Jack on a Zune?

Andrea N

My Zune has been having a headphone jack related problem. Whenever I listen to it, it cuts out and I have to twist the my plug-in to try and receive full sound again. It's gradually gotten worse over time. I really don't want to buy a new Zune or even want to pay to get it fixed. So, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Answer
First make sure it isn't the headphones. A loose wire in the headphones can be the problem. My speakers are the same way. I'll lose sound then manipulate the cord and the sound is back to normal. If you know it isn't the headphones and the Zune is still under warranty then dig up the receipt and call Microsoft.

If you plan to try fixing it yourself then try http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/zune-repair-guides.html for information.

Hey guys, I'm building a new beast gaming and UDK computer. I want this to be future-proof for 5-10 years, and I can spend maximum of $4000 CAD (including everything). I am also getting into professional level video editing, plus I consider myself an audiophile. Also, everything is being ordered from Newegg.ca. Anyways, here's my specs:

MB: Asus Rampage IV Formula
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB
GPU: 2x Asus DirectCUII GTX 670 4GB
PSU: XCLIO Gold 1000W PSU
Case: NZXT Phantom 630
Sound Card: Asus Xonar Essence STX
OS: Windows 8 64-bit
Cooling: Corsair H100i
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST
Hardrives: WD Red 2TB, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB
Monitor: Achieva Shimian QH270 2560x1440 Korean IPS Display
Other: Byerdynamic DT 990 Pro audiophile headphones

This all adds up to slightly over $4k. Will this be future-proof for 5-10 years?

Answer
Make sure the RAM is 1600 or 1866MHz. For gaming? It will definitely need to be upgraded GPU-wise but likely not for about 3 years. Have you seen what it takes to run Crysis 3? If you have the extra money, go for two 680's or even 3 7970's. That way you'd be REALLY future-proofed.

Also make sure the Hard Drives are at least 7200rpm if not 10000 since the within 5 years SSD's will probably be the norm.

Stick with Windows 8. Four thumbs up on that, since 7 will be obsolete within 10 years I'm willing to bet.

Have a nice time building, and good luck! This is a really nice system you have here. Great job choosing parts.

Best gaming headphones?

Eric

Hi!! Im looking for a good pair of headphones for my ASUS Xonar essence STX. I play FPS games mostly and i want to get the most out of this sound card! Any recommendations?!?

Answer
Believe it or not, some of the best headphone are often USB ones which don't use your soundcard at all since they use their own audio drivers and process audio over USB in the headset. Logitech makes good ones, Turtle Beach makes good to great ones, Razer makes some fantastic ones like the Tiamat and Megalodon. You really have to narrow down to what your budget is, here are what I would consider the best for the 3 price categories

<$40 the Turtle Beach Earforce Z11
$60ish Plantronics GameCom 780
$129 Razer Megalodon 7.1

Honestly you won't go wrong with the GameCom 780 it offers great performance for the price.
