what is a good brand of headphone?

Jeanae

so i am wondering what is a good brand of headphone for a medical transcriptionist? or what is a good brand of headphone period? i need a good quality headphone, i dont care about the style.

Answer
First... Beats are garbage (any set that REFUSES to publish their specs can't be taken seriously) as are most Bose sets and their noise cancelling only works for constant sounds, sudden or highly variable sounds (like babies crying) get through them just fine.

The first thing you need to think about is how long these headphones are going to be on your head and how much do you have to spend?

As a transcriptionist likely a long time so you don't want cheap (or heavy) headphones.

Next are you in a noisy environment or an environment that needs to be quiet?

That's where you'll need to choose between open or closed phones>

If it's a noisy environment you'll want a good set of closed over the ear phones.
If it's an environment that can't have "leakage" then you'll also want closed phones.

If it's an environment where you don't need to be "isolated" from noise around you and some leakage from your headphones is ok then open is good as they tend to be lighter and have a more open sound.

As you're NOT listening to music, don't waste time on the garbage at Best Buy that goes on and on about bass and such. Head to a guitar center (sometimes the kids there know their stuff... sometimes)

And just let them know what you want based on the info I just gave you. I roll with AKG 241s and AKG701s (then again those are studio grade), A decent pair of Sony or Sennheisers should be fine for you. A decent set will run you anywhere from 100-150.

Don't skimp on something that's going to be squeezing your head for hours at a time. The headaches you'll get from crappy cans (for example Beats) will make you hate your job.

need some good headphone brands?

does anyone know any good headphone brands that aren't skullcandy or beats

Answer
If REAL quality is an issue, please go for REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica, Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like V-Moda, Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish" indeed. Please do NOT fall a victim to FASHION ACCESSORIES by buying Sol/Republic/Revolution, Noontec Zoro's, Benetton, a-jays, iFrogz, Marley, Fanny Wang, Razer, Karl Kani, WESC, Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), BE THEM FAKE OR NOT!

Also, please do NOT go for the overly thumping bass that only distorts everything else, focus on GOOD sound quality and durability IN GENERAL.
