is 40mm sound good for headphones?

Ari Style

i have headphones that have 40mm sound. is that good? does it mean the headphones have a good bass? the sound quality?

Answer
40mm is just the size of the drivers in the headphone, and no just because a headphone have 40mm drivers does not mean it's a good headphone. There's plenty of crappy $10 headphone with 40mm drivers that sound like crap.

What are the driver sizes for BOTH drivers of the um2's?

I want to upgrade my music listening experience to some dual driver headphones. The reason being is that I listen to a lot of dubstep, and all the single driver headphones i have used have a weak, barely audible bass. I want headphones that will round house kick my eardrums with filthy wobbly bass, but I couldn't find the driver sizes for these headphones, which is a crucial piece of information for making my decision to shell out 250+ dollars. Any help would be appreciated.
the correlation between two drivers and louder bass (in my mind) is that the headphones can separate the bass frequencies to the larger driver, and provide more power to that driver, thus throwing the balance of the frequency to decibel ratio. (Bass is louder, treble and mids are softer) If dual driver headphones aren't made for this kind of sound reproduction, then what would be my best avenue to make this effect?

Answer
You are not seeing the point of dual-driver headphones at all... They will not be louder, they will not have more bass. In your usage, they will not be worth the money to you.

Those headphones are made to present sound in it's truest form. One driver supports trebles and midranges while the other supports bass. This way the sound can be finer and more articulate, not "round house kick" your eardrums.

If, however, you were looking to be presented with accurate and detailed sound, then these would be for you.

Also, driver size doesn't matter in earbuds... period. It's just a figure used by cheaper earbud manufacturers to make people think that they're somehow better than other brands. Cheap earbuds compete in size because they have no real quality to speak of.

I have a great pair of Etymotic earbuds that are frequently regarded as the best in their class, and I'm sure they only have a 6 or 8mm driver in them. But yet, they sound ten times better than most other earbuds out there, except for a pair of Shure IEMs or Ultimate Ears IEMs.
