Mp3 Headphones and Gaming Headphones the same?!!!?

Q. Everytime I try to buy some suround sound headphones, I see that most of the suround sound headphones are gaming headphones. Is that the same, can I remove the microphone that's attached to the headphones or am i just unlucky to find some nice headphones. What do you reccomand?

Answer
I'm not sure if you're looking for gaming headphones, headsets, or just awesome headphones. you didn't specify a price range either so here goes..

surround sound headphones are a joke. Instead get headphones that has a wide "soundstage".

However, headphones with good soundstages tend to be open headphones, making them non-ideal for public use since they leak sound out and in.

if you game with a console and headphones, i suggest the audio technica ad700 + astro mixamp.
example here(watch that video with headphones for a demonstration): http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-4-12-2012-akg-q701-added

if you game with a pc, then makes sure you have a good soundcard, external or not.

if you were just looking for regular headphones, the soundstage thing is the closest thing you will get to speaker sound on a headphone.

headphones with good soundstages: (most of these headphones are $200 and above)
beyerdynamic dt880/t1(open)
sennheiser hd558/598/700/800(open headphones)
akg q701(open headphones)
audio technica ad700(open headphones)
v-moda m-80 (closed headphones. good soundstage relative to other closed headphones, but not against open headphones ofc. also very portable/durable/stylish!)

Headphones!!! Suggestions!?

Carsmypets

Hi guys i am buying new headphones and dont know which one to buy
can u suggest some?

price range is (preferably) up t0 $100 but if absolutely nesecary will got up to 150( but lets not)!

So i like listening to Electronic, dubstep (UKF and Skirllex) and Alternative (Metal) (Linkin Park, Three days grace).

I am looking for headphones the isolate the outside noise (like all of it if possible), and have a removable cord, just in case the cord breaks. ( also i would like if they did not run on batteries, but if they do no problem)

I also want good frequency range and want them to sound amazing ( close to bose or beats)!!!

Well thank you and hope that you can help me !!! :D
Price RANGE UPDATE--- upto $120

Answer
i'm not an expert of budget stuff, so i recommend checking out:
http://www.head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide
and
http://www.head-fi.org/t/433318/shootout-101-portable-headphones-reviewed-skullcandy-mix-master-added-04-06-12
and
the rest of head-fi.
Use the search function. that site has the best info on headphones in the world. You will also see that they hate beats, bose, and most of the skullcandy line since they are overpriced for their sound quality.

honestly, a detachable cable on a good headphone is hard to find at that price. i can only recommend these headphones, all of which are over your price range, save more money perhaps?
audio technica m50
ultrasone hfi-580
v-moda m80(on ear, and has a detachable cable.)

On a budget : Headphones instead of 5.1 speakers?

Johnny

I am a college student and on a budget, but I love the sound experience when I go to a cinema.

I don't have the money to set up a big expensive surround sound system however. Would buying nice headphones like the Sennheiser HD 595 set offer a good alternative?

I'm looking for something immersive and detailed, not something that's just going to burst my ear drums with volume.

Are good headphones a decent budget replacement for a full 5.1 speaker set up?

Answer
Well decent (good quality) headphones can give you a real decent sound experience. They keep it close and the volume on quality ones can be turned down to a reasonable low enought level to not harm ear drums and you can still pickup the small inputs from different sounds and instruments.

For some games or other sound experiences properly recorded in 5.1 then the 5.1 surround is the best way to go.
There are sounds coming from the different angles that add to the sound experinece that headphones can not copy. Even in stereo hooking up more speakers can enhance the sound experience. We hooked up to sets of computer 4.1 speakers to a stereo and had the movies play thru them and it was nice with the two subs and all the speakers.

However since budget is a problem consider also do you have the room for 5.1 and will it interfere with neighbors??? If not then look around for a decent smaller set like computer set of 5.1 if you want (lower cost). Headphones are more personal listening. Upto you.

5.1 headphones, which is better? 1 large 50mm speaker or...?

A B

What's better: one large 50mm speaker in each ear cup

Or a headset that has a 40mm front speaker, a 40mm surround sound speaker, a 30mm center speaker in each ear cup, and vibrating sub-woofers?

Answer
5.1 headphones is never 5.1, just plain physics. You can't feel subwoofer in your body if they are directly pointing at your ears. Any headphones claiming 5.1 is referring to a virtualization of a true 5.1 system. Having said the system that has 3 speakers in each ear should perform better since it has to "virtualize" less and it actually hooks up to individual channel outputs right? Meaning there's 5 jacks to that headphone right? or is there a box that "virtualizes" the stereo output? or better yet does the headphone plug into the Coaxial Digital or SPDIF or optical output? I'd like to see that.. 50mm vs 40mm, larger speakers will produce better bass considering that they are the same speaker manufacturer - one exception is the in ear headphones which in my opinion is irritating and you're not mentioning that so I'll skip it.

Hope that narrows it down for you.

Normal headphones to PS3?

Q. Should I go this way? With cables/adapters and everything...Or buy a special gaming headset? The question I had was if I manage to connect the normal headphones to the PS3, can I chat/use the microphone? Or just the sound? Thanks!

Answer
Interesting...By normal do you mean the headphones and mic you can plug into the computers backside?(the same inputs a ipod might have, and i know what you mean because I've got a mic thats 10 years old for my comp) Because in that case i think you could buy an adapter for the PS3 that will in turn give you those options. i suppose if you really like the limited cord span and feel sentimental towards this technology then go right ahead.

But..as for this old technology actually working on the PS3, i do not know. Because for one these headphones you are talking about were probably designed for a computer and a computer alone. But just because the PS3 is newer technology, it is still a computer.

If i were you...I'd just get a more recent headset. The one i got is a Sony Bluetooth wireless headset which cost me 50$

Word of advice...stay with Sony products if you can. It's common sense that if you want quality products, then stay with quality producers..and Sony is one of those.

Good luck!

How can I use headphones for my PS3?

Q. I want to get Headphones for my Playstation 3. Is there some way to connect my regular 3mm jack headphones to the PS3 if i was to buy some time of cable for the audio (Red or White Cable). Like a Female cable, i think that's how they call it. Or some other type of device that works like headphones .I kind of in a budget so something not to pricey.

P.S I have a Bluetooth headset and its only used for communicating not hearing.
I use the red (or white) and yellow cable so i dont have a HD tv just a regulare TV. And i hook up directly to my TV

Answer
First, you would probably want to figure out how you're going to get the audio from the playstation to headphones. I'm assuming it doesn't have an 1/8" headphone jack on the side. You would need to specify what your setup is like. Do you hook it up to a high def tv or with the old school red and white rca's? Do you send the audio to a stereo receiver or straight to the tv?

If you have it going to a receiver, they usually have a 1/4" headphone jack on it. If you need to convert from 1/4" to 1/8" or viceversa, radio shack sells adapters. If you don't go to a receiver, you're going to need some kind of headphone mixer that you can plug into, and adjust its input volume. Anything that has a headphone jack AND is able to accept some kind of auxiliary input would work actually. You can't really efficiently plug headphones straight to the back of a tv through the rca's. Again, Radio Shack would sell any adapters you would need to switch from the rca's to whatever input type your device has.

Then comes the issue of mixing your friends voices that come through the headset with the audio that is coming from the game. I guess you could use ear-bud style headphones and just wear one in one ear, and your bluetooth on the other, but I imagine that might be awkward. I'm not sure what kind of headset output options the playstation has on board, but i have messed with this idea in head for my xbox 360. The 360 controller has a 2.5mm jack (like most cell phones have) built onto it. If I were to do it, i would use my small yamaha 6 channel audio mixer. I'd convert the rca's from the xbox to a 1/4" plug and put that on channel 1. The hard part would be figuring out how to split my voice output and my friends voice input that goes through the headset through 1 plug. I guess I could get a 2.5mm splitter, if they make one, which would be 1 MALE to 2 FEMALE (mono) plugs and run the side that has my friends voice to channel 2 and the side that carries my voice to an OUTput on the mixer and plug a mic into channel 3 to send to that out, thus hearing your own voice when you talk too. It would probably be pretty awkward having a separate mic. Or you could try one of those PC headsets that have a boom mic and a cable with 2 plugs, one for voice output and one for hearing input and use the same method. But of course this is xbox so I'm not sure if its any use. oh well...

Wow, pretty complicated. I love brainstorming. Hope this helps.

Are my headphones real?

Q. I recently purchased a pair of beats by dr. dre Pro for $80. I bought them in Afganistan. Ive looked up videos that compare fake and real ones. Mine match up every detail of the real ones, exept the serial number. Is that because they are from afgan?

Are they real headphones?
Do they play music? If so, then yes, they're real headphones.
I kid.

As for if they are genuine Beats by Dre, I would say yes.

Skullcandy Headphones Warranty?

Cris

I own a pair of skullcandy headphones (the 35$ ones), and the left one blew out. Is it covered by its lifetime warranty?

Answer
this happened with me too a while back. i think they have 1 year warranty.

the brand LOOKED really good when i bought mine, but it took only 2 nights until one earphone stopped working. i took them back to the shop and got another pair (usually i dont think shops take back earphones), and the left earphone stopped working after about 3 months. so i gave up on them.

buy a different brand next time.

On ear headphones, in ear buds, or ear buds?

Q. Which ear phones are better, and the pros and cons of each.

On ear - http://www.roxy.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3605826&cp=2818165.3562886

In ear buds - http://www.roxy.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3605825

Ear buds - http://www.roxy.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3605824
its not necessarily for the Roxy brand, its just the pictures were easy to find.

Answer
I find on ear headphones to be the most comfortable of the three styles, but then I have yet to find a pair of ear buds, either style, that really fits well in my ears. The only real problem with on ear headphones is that they tend to be large so they are more difficult to travel with. As for ear buds, I like the in ear kind better as they don't tend to fall out when I move. I have a cheap pair of skull candy ones that fit relatively well, but they aren't really comfortable for a long period of time. As for standard ear buds, they are a really good idea, but they never stay in my ears. I don't know if I just have freakishly small ears or something, but they always fall out, every pair I've ever owned. It really depends on what you find to be the most comfortable, but that is my opinion.

are "in ear" headphones good?

yeeeeeeeee

i have an iphone 3gs and im pretty happy with the stock apple headphones they came with

i saw these in ear versions on the apple store , are they good?

and i have noticed all the good headphones are " in ear" ( the expensive ones)

ive never tried in ear before.

are they confortable? and hve better sound then my stock apple ones?

Answer
Most of these in-ear headphones shocked me with their superb sound quality and put the stock apple headphones to shame.

By fitting the "in ear" headphones correctly it blocks out some of the external noises and even having the volume at half what the stock headphones where gives quality clear sounds and heavy bass.

The only good thing about the normal earbuds is that they expose the ear to the outside and allowing sound waves to propagate away from the ear freely. Making it easiler to still chat with others or still hear the traffic clearly. Due to their inability to provide isolation, they are not capable of delivering the same dynamic range.

The "in ear" headphones can be a safety issue if walking between traffic. Some people can just hear their footsteps in the bass but nothing else.

The "in ear" can also be uncomfortable for some and annoying at first getting use to. They have different sizes and it will take a week or so to become easy to use.

Circumaural headphones (sometimes called full size headphones) have circular or ellipsoid earpads that completely surround the ears. These can provide the same quality at a cheaper price but look unsightly for some in the way of style.

Sennheiser is a good brand to get.

Would These headphones be good for Running?

Joe

Im going to purchases these headphones: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Wireless-Headphones-Headset-Cancellation/dp/B008NMWBBS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=15Z80HZ35LO5J&coliid=I3CNBMJN36T8MW

But im not sure if they will be good for running, like I dont want them to slim off or irritate me?
Thanks

Answer
Hi, that kind of headphones isn't good for running, the best are : "earphones" , why this? because it has sound isolation when you put them in your ears, that kind of headphone you wish to buy is open air, it means you can hear all external sounds and the music you listen, so you have to volumen up to listen your music but trust me your ears will have a seriously pain with time; any earphone more than $50.00 is worth it, and perhaps you'll never use another cheap headset because the sound quality, you can find a lot of them in amazon, brands recommended: sennheiser, sony, panasonic. Also you can find bluetooth version of earphones, just have to find the best for your needs: more battery life

Good headphones for running?

thereasonf

Whenever I try to listen to my ipod while running the earphones always fall out of my ears no matter how securely they are fastened. I typically use the Apple white headphones or similar styles. What are some good earphones that won't budge?

Answer
I would say go with the MEElectronics Sport Fi S6 InEar Sports Headphone System,

it has memory that wire conforms to the ear, they're very good for running , Be aware though, that they really isolate noise, so if you are outdoors, you won't hear cars, voices, etc. there are several sizes to choose from and the quality sound is really good.

Good DJ Headphones HELP?

Roberto

Im A Starter. I Know How To DJ But Now Im Actually Gonna Start &Go Out. Any Headphones Ideas? Under 60$ Please. I Really Liked The JVC XTREME XPLOSIVES. Look Nice & Comfortable. Also I Need A SoundCard, Whats A Good Decent Brand/Price.?

Answer
Good proper DJ headphones are all well over $100.

When it comes to DJ gear the one place you should never cheap out is on the headphones. The reason being: when you are trying to beat match two songs with two massive monitors aimed at you and the echo of the main system all around your headphones need to be loud AND clear not just one or the other (or worse neither).

Headphones fall into generally 4 categories:

- Consumer
These are the cheap ear buds and over ears that you find at WalMart and target.

- Fashion
This is just an extension of consumer and includes things like SkullCandy and WeSC. They have large headphones that look like DJ headphones but trust me at the performance volumes they sound terrible. (Performance volumes are the volumes needed when DJing at a party or club which are considerably louder than DJing in your bedroom).

- Audiophile
These are usually really good quality and include brands like Bose, AKG, Sennheiser, Shure and others of that nature. The problem is although the quality is there the volumes aren't and neither is the durability for taking the abuse a DJ will put their headphones through.

(I am not ragging on these headphones, I am wearing a pair of Shure headphones right now as I listen to music at my computer. BUT, I would never use them for DJing).

- DJ
Real DJ headphones fall here and the prices start around $150 (with some exceptions mentioned below). Style wise they are all pretty much all the same silver and black over ear construction but as I said they are designed to be loud AND clear and that is all that matters. DJ Headphones are also durable and foldable because they are often stuffed in record bags and moved around constantly.

During a single one hour set I might take my headphones off and put them back on over 30 times and at the end drop them in my gig bag, as good as they sound and look a set of audiophile headphones like say Dr. Dre Beats would not live up to that beating for very long.

These are examples of proper DJ headphones:
- Allen & Heath XD:53
- Pioneer HDJ-1000's (These are the ones I use right now)
- Pioneer HDJ-2000's (These are pretty much the best that money can buy right now)
- Sony MDR-V700's (These were my last pair until I broke them)
- Technics RP-DH1200's
- Ultrasone DJ1's
- Sennheiser HD-25's (These are actually not classic style DJ headphones but I mention them because a lot of people swear by them)

These brands are hit and miss (may be ok for small venues and parties but I wouldn't use them in a club):
- Reloop
- Numark
- American Audio
- Gemini

If you really want to save money: Pioneer HDJ-500's
They cost about $100 and they are "entry level" DJ headphones. They have Pioneer quality without the usual price tag. (Some stores also have the Sony MDR-V700's for under $100 these days but they were discontinued so they are hard to find)

- DO NOT go any cheaper then the HDJ-500's
- DO NOT buy SkullCandy
- DO NOT shop for DJ headphones anywhere but a pro audio store, if you can buy your groceries in the same store they are not selling professional headphones.

-----

As to your sound card question: M-AUDIO or Native Instruments are both good brands if you mean external.

What are good DJ headphones?

Sully12

Ok so what are some really good useful DJ headphones and are SOL Republic good?

Answer
Sol Republic isn't good. Beats aren't either.

Go for the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO. I bought mine for $99. Best headphones for DJs. I use them for music and music producing (lead guitarist/backing vocalist/session bassist here).

Oh, and if you won't believe me, take time to read:

Beats are just overpriced fashion accessories. Same goes to Skullcandy, Soul by Ludacris, etc. They're sh^t. I have friends who are audiophiles. I also have friends who are gullible, and they have Beats, Soul by Ludacris and Skullcandy. When we got together to compare our headphones, I compared my Sennheiser HD 280 PRO to a Beats Pro, and the Beats was just blown away. And you won't believe it, my HD 280's worth $99.99 (I bought it at that price) and the Beats Pro is like, $300ish? Its not worth the money.

Oh, and don't tell me that I am cheap/jealous. I have Beats Studio and Pros too, so, yeah I'm not cheap/jealous :)). I already sold my Studios.

Good brands:
Sennheisers, Shures, AKGs, Grados, Beyerdynamics, Etymotics, ATHs, Bose

Piece of Crap brands:
Beats, Soul by Ludacris, Skullcandy, etc. Although there are some exceptions in Skullcandy.

Headphones working as a mic?

proft209

its crazy im recording and at the same time so are the headphones, so when i record with music on my editing program it sounds choppy distorted and just plain nasty, everythings pluggged into where its supposed to be ive troubleshooted, tried different headphones, even called technical support PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

Answer
Headphones and microphones are essentially the same thing in different directions. You'll have better luck for headphones to work as a microphone than to have a microphone reproducing sound. Perhaps you have the headphone and microphone in the wrong jacks. Try unplugging the microphone and putting the headphone into the jack where you just unplugged the microphone. If you can hear something through the phones without the microphone hooked up, then you may have the jacks wired wrong, or you may have mixed them up. Your microphone could become distorted if you plug it in to where your headphones are to be which is why I suggested leaving that unplugged. Other wise there may be some software or other issue that would need more information to help.

wireless headphones?

Isabella

hi, im looking for a not too expensive pair of wireless earbud headphones.

i work in a factory and having wires is dangerous as i work around gears and wheels all day.

they have the radio on but as my particular machine is louder than all the others i cant hear it and i get very very bored, the other day i had to fit my machine with an extra piece that makes the noise unbearable so the boss gave me some earmuffs, they were radio ones but the radio was broken in them, so i want to buy some wireless earbuds so i can put them on under my earmuffs and listen to my mp3 player in my bag about 2 metres away.
ohhh, i didnt know they hadnt figured it out,

i wanted the ones Ryan Reynolds had in Definitely Maybe.

Answer
i wish there was such as thing but they are doing research on getting them down to an extremely small size and still be wireless but so far the only options are bulky wireless headphones for $600 or use other head phones try getting some noise canceling head phones because that will drown out some of the noise caused by the machines

Are these good headphones?

Are they good for their price? Why?

If not, can you find any better ones up to $30?

Which are the best headphones for home studio recording?

Nico

I'm looking for good quality headphones at an affordable price (no more than $50) to use at home for recording. Any suggestions??
PS.: I know I won't find any GOOD quality at that price, but something good according to the price

Answer
Hi Nico,

These headphones should suit your needs perfectly. They are the AKG K 77 Circumaural Closed-Back Stereo Headphones and they come in under your budget by $1:) at $49. What's good about these is that they fit all the way around your ear so you can wear them for long periods of time without any discomfort (trust me - this is a good thing). Also since they are "closed-back" you can do over-dubbing without having the sound leaking out of the headphones when you're recording.

Hope that helps!

Headphones for home studio (voiceovers)?

Darek

I'm looking for good (for the price) headphones for my home studio. The budget is currently more or less 100$. I found the follwing opinion on an internet forum:

"If you're making voiceovers without the Sony 7506, you're cheating your client."
http://voiceoversavvy.com/ftopic3820-15.html

is that true? These are well over my budget but if they're so much better than others...?
If you're for example choosing a cheap condenser mic, you are pretty safe with e.g. Rode NT-1a - it may not be the best for your needs etc., but it's quite popular and widely used. Is there such a "safe" choice among headphones?

Answer
I owned that headphone for many years and that is a stupid review - the 7506 is a great headphone for $100 and it has been a standard studio headphone for many years. They are around $100:

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GOOD MAKE/MODEL OF EARBUD HEADPHONES, ALSO THAT ARE AFFORDABLE, GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY?

John

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GOOD MAKE/MODEL OF EARBUD HEADPHONES, ALSO THAT ARE AFFORDABLE, GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY?

I haven't ever bought earbuds before, because I grew up with more traditional headphones, and there's so many different choices now for so many different makes/models, and price ranges, etc; that it's difficult
to decide. I don't really want to spend a lot on something so small, and to
me they all look as though they would sound the same anyway!

I'd appreciate any advice.

THX for readin' ; )-

Answer
There's definitely a lot of earphones out there, so many that even going by brand reputation can be tough. Good news is that there are some really good ones you don't have to pay too much for. I use the VSonic GR02 Bass Edition earphones. They were less than $45 but they sound great with full bass and great clarity. They do a good job of blocking out noise and the cord is holding up well so far. If they're in your budget I highly recommend them,

I would recommend going here: http://theheadphonelist.com/headphone-list/ , putting in your budget, and focusing on whatever other factors are important to you besides sound quality (maybe noise isolation if you'll be using them outside). There's also a guide with the best sub-$50 sets here: http://theheadphonelist.com/holiday-buyers-guide-best-earphones-under-50/ organized by purpose. You may also want to check out head-fi.org - lots of knowledgeable user reviews on there.

First pair of headphones?

Tired of L

I'm planning on getting a pair of good headphones...need to finally replace these old apple earphones.

My price range isn't high but I figure as a first pair of non-earbuds I don't really need a really fantastic pair. I'm just looking for comfort, sound and something I can use on a plane.

I don't want a pair with heavy bass. It doesn't appeal to me and isn't important in the music I listen to. Some bands I listen to are Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Flyleaf, Silverstein, A Day to Remember, From First to Last and Rise Against.

Basically a broad range rock...I guess "pop-punk" and alternative? Just all-round sound.

I'm yet to go to a store and try things out but it'd come in handy to know where to start, apart from the obvious brands that are "popular". I don't mind the idea of a "popular" brand but only if I'm actually getting something good for my money...not just paying for the pretty logo.

What would some good headphones that aren't too expensive be? Say...$50 to maximum $200? Not heavy in the bass and for use on an ipod/computer.

I have no idea about headphones so any help would be appreciated :)

Thank you :)

Answer
I strongly reccomend you look into sennheiser - since they have good value for money headphones :
Sennheiser HD201 (I own a pair) $25
Sennheiser HD202 $25
Sennheiser HD203 $35
The higer the number next to the "HD" the better the sound quality (and the price goes up...).

Audio Technica- I heard good reviews by many, never tried them myself - they have a few models that are around $60 (ATH M20, ATH-M35, ATH-ANC27, ATH-D40fs) but most of their pairs are $130 or so.

And I'm sorry, I can't finish this answer without adding a few Sony models in:
Sony MDR-V150 $25
Sony MDR-ZX300 $30

Which headphones should i buy. 10 points.?

Noah

I want some headphones that look stylish and sound good for under a hundred dollars. I am looking at some shure headphones for 99.99 they have good sound but don't look that nice. Another is SMS audio by 50 cent I haven't heard about their quality but they look nice for 89.99 on amazon. If their is a better pair you want to tell me about please do I will buy headphones just for sound though.

Answer
From those, Shure wins HANDS DOWN. NEVER EVER buy any headphones for looks only, instead focus on good audio quality!

If REAL quality is an issue, you should stick to REPUTABLE brands only such as B&W, Sennheiser (most affordable), Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Audio-Technica (NOT to be mixed with Technic which is utter rubbish as well!), Etymotic or Beyerdynamic. Things like V-Moda, Klipsch, Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Philips are ONLY "okay-ish" indeed. Please do NOT fall a victim to FASHION ACCESSORIES by buying Boombox, Ministry of Sound, Sol/Republic/Revolution, Noontec Zoro's, Benetton, a-jays, iFrogz, Marley, Fanny Wang, Razer, Karl Kani, WESC, Turtle, JH, Dr.Dre/Beats/Solo, Ludacris/Soul, Koss, Skullcandy, Lady GaGa, Skullcrushers, Monsters nor Bose, because they are ALL seriously overhyped and overpriced "fashion blingbling gimmicks" with a very poor durability and sound quality, NOTHING else (and those who try to claim they are good do NOT know ANYTHING about QUALITY anyway!), BE THEM FAKE OR NOT!

Also, please do NOT focus on the thumping bass that just distorts everything else, instead go for GOOD audio quality IN GENERAL.

Should i buy these skullcandy headphones?

Little Mis

I'm really into these skullcandy headphones --> http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9371132/c_1/1|category_root|Home+entertainment+and+sat+nav|14419512/c_2/2|14419512|Headphones+and+earphones|14419643/c_3/3|cat_14419643|Over-ear+headphones|14419648.htm

And i was wondering whether anyone knew if these are good, or if they'll be good by reading the description?
They're £24.99 Skullcandy Uprock Headphones, and they have a 3.5mm jack. Is that the common size and would it fit my phone the Samsung Galaxy S and my MP4? Sorry for so many questions but i want to make sure they are really good before i buy them!
Thanks x
Also, do Skullcandys last a long time?

Answer
Hi, I'm a 13 year old girl and I asked a similar question when I was thinking of buying my *cough* pink *cough* headphones (I really regret buying the pink ones now, they look kinda stupid... I had planned on buying the white ones, but argos didn't have them in stock, so I picked the pink ones. stupid me.) someone did warn me to buy a better brand, but i really wanted some so I didn't listen to them.
I bought mine last summer (summer 2011) and they're still okay, still look like new, but they rattle quite a bit, which can be quite annoying. They've stretched as well in a way, it becomes easier to widen them which leads me to believe that they will eventually snap, but I'm not sure. These are my first pair of headphones so I didn't really want to spend a lot on them and I only use them at home, I don't take them out anywhere. Also, maybe the fact that only I use them and I don't chuck them across the room and stuff. I don't think they'll last very long now (probably not because they were only about £25 to start with, which isn't much for a pair of headphones) They still sound great and there's nothing wrong with the quality of the sound but it's the design I hate. The flat cable is nice to have, I still don't know how it's 'tangle free' though, as they still get a bit tangled sometimes.. so I'm planning on buying a pair of beats solo HD headphones next February because I know the sound will be better and they'll last longer + look better... I'm glad i tried Skullcandy first though.
Yes, the 3.5mm jack is the most common jack size and will fit most devices, like iphone's, MP4's and your Samsung (I think it will, I've just googled it and it looks like it should) It's really up to you if you want some, but I'm just saying that I don't wear them in public cuz they look weird. I've had them for about 6 months, and they've done well considering I use them everyday. Hope this helped =D

Why won't my FMJ headphones work with my Xperia Play?

Janice

I just got new headphones for Christmas, the FMJ headphones from skullcandy, and they don't work with my phone. I have the Xperia play, and when I plug them in, it says "accessory not supported" on the phone, and continues to play out the phone speakers instead of the headphones. Is there anyway to fix this problem, or do I just have to purchase new headphones?

Answer
I've been having the exact same problem. Sony Ericsson products are not always compatible with things like Skullcandy or other types of headphones, especially if they have things like microphones or volume adjusters built into the headphones/earbuds. Right now, there is no software fix for them but there IS something you can do hardware wise: a small little adapter that makes it compatible with the Xperia Play. It's called a TRRS Adapter and you can find it here:
http://www.meelec.com/MEE_TRRS_Adapter_for_P_Version_Headphones_p/adptr-trrs-35.htm

If you look under the devices it supports, you will find the xperia play. I'm pretty sure you can find the same adapter online or in stores for less. Hope this helps!

music only coming out of right headphone Sony xperia play?

Jason

I've tried many different headphones and the external speakers both work

Answer
i don't understand your question, but if it's the headphones of the play just bin them and get new ones. If it's the phone itself that has the prob, then just take it to a repairman, as this is a 3.5mm jack prob with the phone.

how to amplify home theater headphones?

Bijan

I just bought a Sony "MDR-DS7500" Home Theater Headphone system that I would like to amplify for the sound that it produces right now out of the box turned all the way up on the knob has poor low volume and I would like to change that. If any knows how to go about this and any way I am all ear and would very much appreciate it. Thank You!

Answer
Headphones can be amplified by headphone amps. Fiio is extremely popular for their affordable models, but don't get me wrong, they have some good quality models as well, check out the e9 for example. Turtle Beach has a good DAC called Earforce DSS, it amplifies audio and has bass boost as well as Dolby Digital processing.

Headphone crackling issue?

Emmett

I have a pair of audiotechnica ath m-50 studio moniter headphones, there hooked up to an art four channel amp. When i use the phones on my computer with itunes, i can hear a very very slight but noticable crackle, im not sure if its the musics production method or what. I'am usually pretty sensitive to sound production, maybe even an audiophile but im wondering if this is normal or something is wrong with the phones. They are pretty new, maybe a few months and i have never turned them up past half way on the amp, i would like to but, restrain just out of worry for the phones it would be good to know if i can turn them up more too.

Answer
Are you using your computer's headphone output?? If so, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you're hearing noise...

You could always test the headphones - if they sound clean when directly connected to an iPod or a cd player then they're good....

If the problem is your computer then you might have to get a USB DAC to sit between computer and amp...

My volume on my headphones are dead? (VOLUME CONTROL)?

Sinisa Sub

I've tried even unplugging them, and plugging. Nothing. The sound is off even with the speakers.
Here is what happens when I open Volume Control:
http://uploadpic.org/v.php?img=44gV1qwxmz
Any help is greatly appreciated!
It's not even working with the speakers. Something about Volume Control is bad. :/

Answer
Have you got the right head phones for the right machine your plugging them into, for an example we'll say you have a Pioneer product and the model number is ABCD1234 and the owner's manual says U need to get Pioneer headphones ABCD4567 for the headphones to have peak volume control do you know what I'm trying to tell you

What do i do if Sony headphones are messing up my volume control?

RAnderson7

I'm thinking i need a new pair of headphones because mine are changing the volume by themselves. At least I'm thinkig that it's them because when i play music without the headphones i don't have a problen at all. What do you guys think?

Answer
If your headphone has a volume control option, then when that gets loose, it can change the volume. If you what to continue with the same, you can make if fixed by some arrangement(tape etc), or may be remove that and use it without volume control.
If there is no such option of volume setting then try it with any other device and see if this shows the same variation as with your music player, as the problem may be at device side too.

If not then you should replace your headphones.

A Headphones question?

Goofy Goof

I want to buy some headphones but have a few questions

one amazon there are OverEar, OnEar, and EARbud headphones
i know what earbud headphones are but the other two look the same is there any difference?

I want to use the headphones to listen to music from my phone/psp and also would be nice if i could use them to hear sound from my tv whenim playing ps3 at night.

Any good ones for under $30?

Answer
Overear means they cup over your ear, they fit your entire ear inside the cup
Onear means that they just sit against your ears, so they can get a little uncomfortable because they push your ears against your skull.
overear are usually better -- they're more comfortable and better at blocking sound, but that's not to say that there arent amazingly great onear headphones out there

what you're looking for (leaking sound) is something that a lot of people dont want. usually if you want to hear outside noise you put one ear on and one ear off.

here's some good headphones:

http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/koss-portapro-headphones/4505-7877_7-32897197.html?tag=prodList.0;bingo.5
these are really good, i had them for a while. You cannot wear them around your neck -- they will strangle you. they're really flimsy, so you feel like you're going to break them all the time, but sound-wise they're really good. They have a good strong bass, a level mid-range and a clear, crisp treble.

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD201-Lightweight-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0007XJSQC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322425156&sr=8-1
i've had these forever. They are absolutely amazing. they're over-ear style, extremely comfortable, and they have amazing sound. they have moderate noise-canceling, and they keep your sound in pretty well, though not as well as some others i've used. you should look at all the sennheiser HD20_ series (i think there's 1, 2 and 3 now, though i'm not sure)

http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/meelectronics-ht-21-portable/4505-7877_7-34476524.html?tag=rb_content;contentBody
these are also on-ear headphones, and more comfortable than the Koss. They have really soft leather over the ears, so wearing them for a long time isn't too big of a problem. they've got really good sound, and they're not as flimsy as the Koss, but they are still pretty lightweight. Great portability, and great sound. i havent owned these (the other two above i have) but my school has them for use in the computer labs. They last a long time, otherwise the freshmen would have torn them up by now.

that's all i can really find under 30. Earbuds, if you want them to be good, you've gotta look in the $50-$100 range. Earbuds are easily made, and usually they're made pretty badly.Headphones literally have speakers in them, little amps. In buds, it's hard to get enough amps to really give a good sound. A lot of times you'll get a muddy bass and a shaky treble, and if you go above mid-volume you end up with distorted sound.
in the last two years i've been through 17 pairs of headphones, ranging from $4 to $200. The Sennheisers, though not the most impressive, have been some of the best headphones i've ever used. They're kinda flimsy, the cord is 6ft long (i put a rubber band around it) but the sound is incredible. In terms of sound, these beat Dr Dre's by miles (and miles, and miles, and miles). They look cool (people are always saying how my headphones look super expensive, meanwhile i got them for $20 on sale) and they work really, really well. They keep a lot of minimal noise out, like my brother playing video games downstairs, but i can still hear my mom when she yells at me to do the dishes. I'd recommend them highly for you.

good luck!

top review monster headphones ?

hsky

i was wondering was the best headphone for iphone 4 by monster or bose?

Answer
I would guess neither. The "best" (whatever that means) headphones at most price points would probably be from a company such as Grado, Shure, Sennheiser etc. Monster and Bose make headphones that are average, at best. People who care about sound quality recognize that Bose are regarded as good simply because they spend a lot of money on advertising, whereas Monster rely on celebrity endorsements to give their products a bit of "street cred".

To find out what headphones are really the best, check out some of the reviews on the headphone fanatic site, http://www.head-fi.org . The guys there are passionate about their sound and have reviewed almost every headphone available. At every price point you will find a few headphones that keep coming up as being the best. They won't include Bose or Monster Beats.

Good or Bad? Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones Review

The QuietComfort series are noise cancelling product lines from Bose. The best value I found is from amazon.com , for Bose QuietComfort 15, it is about $299. I think for noise cancelling headphone it is a good value.

What is the difference between noise cancelling and sound isolatiing headphones?

pelican

I didn't think there is a difference but apparently there is since it is separated like this on the Best Buy website.

Answer
Isolating headphones use large earcups and foam pads to seal out noise from outside, without affecting the signal coming into the earphones. Noise cancelling headphones use mics to sense the noise around you and apply a signal opposite to the external noise to cancel it out. If you don't mind bigger heavier 'phones you get the same effect and a musical signal purer and closer to the original music with a sound isolating set. This is why recording studios generally wouldn't use a cancelling style of 'phone. If you like smaller, lighter phones but still want to hear your tunes in noisy environments, then the noise cancelling units are the way to go.

I need a good pair of headphones for my ipod. I've already had two of the original that came with it and they both broke. (It's a first gen ipod nano) I would like them to be either white or purple and have good sound quality. Do you know of any good brands?
whats wrong with skull candy?

Answer
JVC Marshmallows. You can buy them new on ebay for a bit under 20$

and btw STAY AWAY FROM SKULLCANDY.
Horribly overrated and they break/stop working randomly and easily. My friend just learned the hard way and my marshmallows still work.

how well are jvc harx300 headphones?

Nicky

So i had a pair of jvc flats for about a year or 2 and i thought they were great, i was able to pull on the cord (not on purpose of course) and they didn't break until one day i accidentally yanked them so hard one side broke. My point is i was very happy with them but now that my coby headphones broke after like 2 months from a crappy cord i want another pair of jvc headphones but i want ones that are sound proof and cheap and I'm considering jvc harx300 but i need know all of these
bass sound
durability of the headphones AND the cord
and how long did they last anyone you know who has had them? or if still working please say for how long??

Answer
The durability of the head phones are very good but there is a downfall or a weak point where the actual headphones connect to the plastic piece that goes over the top of your head tends to be the point where they break when they do finally break and the plastic head piece doesn't have padding so after an hour or so you will have to slightly adjust it so they don't hurt. On the flip side the cord is tough and the part of the earphones that actually go over your ear is very comfortable and isolates the sound very well they also produce nice clear sound and a little above average bass which is always good! Lastly my friend Kyle has had his pair for i think almost two years now and likes them a lot! so especially for there 10-20 $ price range they are great choice of headphones!

Best ear/headphones under 50 bucks?

Roel

What are some really high quality headphones (in-ear, over, etc) that deliver great bass, great mids, great highs under 50 bucks? That are better than the Skullcandy Ink'd?
I already own the skullcandy ink'd, in fact i have them on right now. Just need to know if there is anything better that is still within 50 buck range.

Answer
There are a lot of choices for earphones / earbuds in the under $50 category. Important things for you to consider are how comfortable you want them to be for long listening sessions, whether you will use them while exercising and how much isolation you want from external sounds.

For a fairly inexpensive option that should fit within your budget, I would recommend MEElectronics M6 earphones over any of the models from Skullcandy. The MEElec M6's have exceptional sound quality for their price point, and come with a range of silicon eartips to help you find the most comfortable fit.

I have tried multiple Skullcandy models (including the Ink'd) and the only one I found to sound decent were the Full Metal Jackets. They have good sound quality, although it is a pretty bass-heavy sound signature, and come with both silicon and foam eartips to help you find the most comfortable fit. They will work with an iPhone or iTouch, too. A lot of people question the build quality of Skullcandy earphones, but so far at least I have not faced any issues with my set. They retail for $80 but usually be found for less than $50 online.

More details and a review of each of these models can be found in the links below.

What are the best headphones for jogging/running?

rosy

I have an ipod and i hate it when my headphones fall out of my ears when i start to fun? What are the best type of headphones you recommend and what brand?

Thanks
i meant to type RUN not fun

Answer
Other people will be able to tell you what's a good running headphone, but let me suggest something else.

Don't use headphones at all!

Assuming you are talking about outside running, you must be aware of the hazards that are common. Being alert to traffic, fellow runners, bikers, and walkers is important. Also, and especially for women, one must be alert so that you aren't an easy target for crime. I'm serious.

Running isn't the most exciting sport for most. It becomes much better, however, if you run with others. Join a running club, or enlist a friend. I think once you begin running with people, you'll see that you don't need music at all.

Are the beats by dre headphones bad for jogging?

weeeeeeeee

the studios or solos

Answer
yeah! They are Ok for jogging. Like the other person said you might get hit by a car and wouldn't know it! You just like throwing your money away don't you?! damn that's shit all that rediculous money for some Headphone. I know of some cheaper headphones that have the same or better sound quality made by KOSS, JVC, SONY, SKULLCANDY they all make headphones with noise canceling, save your money and put it to better use than buying headphones with somebody's name attached to it. They ain't all that!
