Headphones question??

So, I need new headphones. My last pair was the Skullcandy SkullCrushers (which my mom broke lol). My problem is, I loved the sound with those. They had insane bass. But, they were a pain to lug around and wear around. It got to the point where the only time I'd use them was when I was on the computer or playing guitar.

So what I'm looking for is, which headphones have sick bass but aren't a pain to wear? What isn't incredibly expensive? And what looks pimp like skullcandy? Also, I play guitar, so it'd be nice to have headphones that I can have my amp turned up, and my headphones can handle it.

Any suggestions? Thanks guys

Sennheiser makes excellent headphones if the most important thing to you is sound. They will sound a million times better than SkullCandy but will be around the same price

Check out the HD280s. They are under 100 bucks, have monster bass, super comfortable, and won't run you 300-500 like a lot of the expensive headphones.

Good neutral headphones with detailed sound (for under 100$)?

so i've been wanting to get an audiophile level headphone (well at least , sort of. i just want good sound quality) Up till now i've been looking at the Sony MDR V6 but i hear the Superlux 668b is also good , and the Monoprice 8323 as well for its price. I tried asking /g/ but they only really made it worse , they recommended the Koss portapros and the JVC HARX700 (and then ofc started arguing. as usual.)

What does yahoo recommend? Any audiophiles here that could help? Anything else you would recommend?
I listen to music mostly but i occasionally like gaming as well.
What i listen to: Guns N' Roses , The white stripes , The Raconteurs , The dead weather , Nirvana , Soundgarden , Scorpions , The offspring , Mastodon , Megadeth , Metallica , Testament , Baroness , Deadmau5 , Noisestorm , Noisia , Skrillex , Wolfgang Gartner , etc etc etc. Anything like what i mentioned counts.

I won't be using a dac or an amp. Thanks in advance

Looking at your music selection, the obvious choice is a Grado SR60i or Grado SR80i. They are the unassailable rock and metal champion. Not bad for electronic music too.

If you want closed headphones (isolation from outside noise but don't sound as good as open), I'd look into the Shure SRH440 or Brainwavz HM3.

Koss Portapros are also very good for their $30 price tag too, but Grados will totally destroy any of those headphones you mentioned for rock or metal music.

Headphones/earbuds with the best bass for under $100?

I have a pair of sony noise cancelling headphones that are about a year and ahalf old and i want a newer pair with better bass. y'know headphones that sound like you stuck a subwoofer in them.

The Creative EP-630 has a warm bassy sound, and is relatively cheap too. More expensive earbuds tend to be more balanced. The Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 EB Extended Bass is probably the earbud you want, because it has an encapsulated subwoofer, but it is a little over your price range. Try ebay. For earbuds, a portable amp like the Fiio E5 would extend the bass alot. I don't know much about over-ear headphones though. They might give you more bass. Check head-fi.org for reviews and impressions.

Not to be "that guy" but Beats by Dr. Dre are not really good quality phones. If you like their sound, then their price point should be around the $40-50 range. I don't know anyone who loves their Beats, but has also tried other "real" headphone brands. By real, I mean companies that pretty much ONLY make headphones. Like: Sennheiser, Audio Technica, AKG, Shure, Grado etc.

Personally, I love the ATH-M50 ($160.00)They are studio phones and are neutral sounding (meaning they are great for listening to all sorts of music and movies). They have a good soundstage and an appropriate amount of bass. The mids and highs are clear and distinct, and the bass is tight and punchy and there's plenty of it.

The Pro700mk2s ($180) are similar to the ATH-M50s in that it has great sound, but it has a ton of bass. If you love bass, it is a phenomenal set of phones. Unlike the Beats, the bass is accurate, tight and hefty. The mids aren't as clear as with the M50s, but that's what you get with an abundance of bass. Some people don't like the ear foam piece, but you can buy the earpiece from the ATH-M50 and use them on it.

The Grado Prestige SR80i ($90) is a phenomenal audiophile quality set of cans for around $90.00. Some people have complained of poor build quality as far as plastic goes. Just an fyi, some people are harder on their headphones than others. They are widely acclaimed headphones and work well.

Sennheiser has a great line of headphones. Sennheiser tends to have a darker (not as cheerily bright sounding as some other headphones) sound to them. They usually have great bass and decent mids and highs. The HD-280 Pros ($97) are good cans. Open eared cans are widely acclaimed by them, such as the HD558s ($180). I have used them and I love the sound from an open ear set of headphones.

I also have the Audio Technica AD700s ($100). They aren't for everyone. They have magnificent soundstage and not a lot of bass (which is a plus for me). They are super comfy and have wonderful mids and highs.

As far as looks go, well that's a personal choice. I do think the Beats have a cool look to them. But now everyone has them. Frankly, I find that if you really want great headphones, they have to be comfortable too. Headphones tend to have a look to them that is tried and true as being comfortable. Beats, in all reality, are not super comfortable. But they aren't the worst I've ever seen.

I'll put some links down below where you can read reviews and see the pricing. Also, you can see if they look good to you or not. But quality should really come first.

You could buy more expensive headphones that are cheaper than Beats, but some of them need a headphone amp to show any potential. The AKG 701/702 ($270) is probably the best I've ever heard under $500.00, but it needs a headphone amp to let its potential shine and isn't really a take along with you type of headphone.

What is the best digital piano or keyboard for me?

I just found out I have been accepted to boarding school, and I would like to continue to play piano (I have been playing for about eight years). I need a keyboard or digital piano that will fit well in a dorm room. It needs to have pedals,weighted keys, authentic sound and be under $1000. What type would be the best? (It doesn't have to have a lot of fancy features, just do what a normal piano can do)

If you give up the weighted key option, and go for synth action, then take a look at the M-Audio 88. My husband has a gorgeous Steinway downstairs, but for the classical music weddings and other such gigs we play (certainly not concerts! Those have to be a really fine grand!) then we take this. It has two pedals (sustain and sostenuto!), weighs 17 pounds, and has decent piano sounds - not all the outer-space stuff you do not need. You can listen with headphones, or run it thru an amp. Please get a good stand - one with four good legs, not an X stand. Musicians Friend has one for around $85 that folds to a letter L, but opens into two Ys connected with a bar - very stable, and you can even put a shett of wood on it to make a table for extra guests. I bought one for my school - adjustable in almost every parameter, can hold a big mixer, etc. Aldo get an adjustable bench - you can get a 4-leg crankup (artist) bench for less than $100 - same place. Again, beats the X-leg bench. If you do not like the pedal that comes with it ( small, square, if I remember - we have a tons of extra things here) then get traditionally-shaped pedals. Place a conventional GOOD folding music stand in front, and get good lighting that clips on. You will be all set!

We own 5 electric keyboards and a fine Steinway squaretail A - and of course they cannot be compared - but for what they are,a decent electric keyboard beats a crappy acoustic piano.
