what are the best headphones for about $100-$200 AUD.?

Hugh

im planning on buying some headphones for rock and down tempo music. i will also be using them to plug in to my keyboard(piano) so i don't annoy my family with it. what head phones are good. i also want them to be readily available. i don't want to have to go hunting around for them.
also sound quality is the number 1 priority, then comfort. i don't really care at all about how the look.

Stay away from Skullcandy,Aerial-7 and Dr.Dre beats, they are a waste of money. I would recommend taking a look at the sennheiser range.

Personally I am going to buy a pair of Audio-Technica ES7's, as they sound the best to me. They sell for around $200 AUD. I also have a pair of Shure 240 headphones that have served me well, but the extra long cable (they are studio headphones), got irritating at times. Apart from that I can only recommend you take a look at this guide.

Best over ear headphones? ?

Alex

I am looking for over ear headphones that have leather ear cups and are foldable. My ideal price is $100-$200 but I could spend more for better quality. I am very interested in any headphones that are like beats pros but less expensive. Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

Answer
Hey, Alex

There is a wide selection of headphones that are available on the market at the moment, and for the most part, the quality of the craftmanship and sound will depend on the price that you are willing to spend. On the lower price range (less than $50), you will be able to find some fairly decent headphones that will be perfect for somebody that is just planning to listen to music on their mp3 player or computer, and are not full fledged audiophiles. In the medium price range ($50-150), you will get a great selection of very high quality headphones that would be perfect for nearly everyone that is not involved with music professionally. The quality of these headphones are going to be suberb, should cancel out almost all background noise, and are going to be of a quality craftmanship that will last for quite a long time. On the more expensive side of things ($150 and up), you are going to find professional quality headphones. For the normal person this will be a bit too much as they provide a quality of sound that is amazing, but is generally only sought after by professionals who are working on their own music (or the type of people who make sure their house is wired with the best speaker systems on the market).

Depending on the amount you are willing to spend, my top five choices (from cheapest to most expensive) would have to be:

Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional

This model provides good insulation against background noise and has a solid bass range and response time. Perfect for somebody wanting a cheap set of quality headphones.

Sennheiser RS120

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-rs120/

These are very affordable for wireless headphones. They feature an open-ear system and a strong bass response. Since they are wireless, you don't even have to be in the same room as what is transmitting the sound, giving you ultimate range while listening to music. Very lightweight and a high quality. I have this set for using around my apartment.

Sennheiser HD280 Professional

Here we are well into the midrange quality headphones. This set is corded, but provides much better sound quality than the RS120. They provide up to 32 dB attenuation of outside noise, so you do not have to worry about much from background noise, even in relatively noisy environments.

Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/beats-by-dr-dre-solo-hd/

These are on the high-end spectrum of headphones. They are very comfortable and produce an amazing sound quality. If you are looking for something that is "in-style" and provides some of the best sound quality that you can find at this price range, then these are the headphones for you.

Bose Quietcomfort 15

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/bose-quietcomfort-15/

I use these when I am playing live venues. They are some of the best headphones you can buy at the moment, are very comfortable while wearing for many hours at a time (even in hot, sweaty clubs), block out almost all background noise and provide nearly unmatched sound quality. For somebody looking for professional quality headphones, or with a big budget wanting the best money can buy, then these are the headphones for you.

Overall, the most important thing while choosing the headphones, is the consider what you will be using them for and do not over estimate how much quality you actually need. If you are looking for something to use on the bus or just while you're hanging out, listening to music, you probably do not need top of the line Bose. Good luck, Alex, and I hope you find the perfect set!
