I have a Kindle Keyboard with 3G which shows the ads when it's supposedly off. I look at it a day later or so and it says the battery is dead. How do you turn off a freaking kindle?

It clearly shows you where the power button is [on the side next to headphone socket]

If your model of Kindle has a headphone jack then yes. But not all models have audio support.
