Regarding Headphones?

Q. Hey,

I have a pressing question.
I have seen in many audio reviews that the best headphone under $200 (compared with price, reliability and sound quality), is the Audio Technica ATH M-50...
Is that still the case now (in December 2013)?

Thinking of buying a set of headphones, and need your opinion on a good set of headphones with great sound quality.

Sound quality is No.1 for me and a bit of bass is acceptable as well. and I prefer to get one which has great build quality.

Hope you have some advice for me!

Cheers...

Alan gives some really great advice...(a welcome change from some of the usual 'rants' that one particular contributor posts)...

The Audio Technica M50 is a reference headphone, it does offer great sound quality...if that is what you are looking for..?

Some consumer level headphones - even though they are marketed as 'Pro' - emphasise sound frequencies to 'enhance' the listening experience...some people like the 'Beats' sound with enhanced Bass...other people prefer a 'sparkly warm sound' with not as much bass and a slight emphasis on the treble...different headphones have different sound signatures and sound different...as Alan says the only way to know what suits you best is to try and find somewhere that stocks the headphones and lets you try them out before you buy them...even after buying a headphone, when you get it home and get it out the box it might sound different (not as good and you might not like it)...you sometimes need to run a new headphone in (burn it in 'warm it up') and this can take a couple of days - if you have the patience though once a headphone settles its a most enjoyable experience...providibg you have made a good choice...

I reckon the V-Moda M80 is about the best headphone kicking about at your price range right now....military grade 'build quality' and the sound is nice...I need replaceable cables and that's another reason why i'd pick it.

what are some new best headphones for 2013?

Q. ive asked this question a year and half ago and i decided that i wanted to revisit this question.

what are some good over-the-ear headphones that sound great, have little to no sound leaks, and are comfortable for on the go?

im a big audiophile when it comes to how my music sounds and i've been trying to look for the perfect pair for a long time. i don't want beats by Dre because those are horrible and over priced (just so we're clear on that :) )

Answer
Affordability, I would go with the Crossfade lps by V moda. Soundwise, Monster Inspiration.
