Beats vs Other Headphones?

Q. I wanted to know which would be the best headphones for my to buy in terms of:
price
sound quality
look and feel
comfort
and durability of the headphones.

After trying out my friend's Beats, I really wanted to get some, since they were like nothing I'd ever heard before. But now that i'm able to get some, i've been reading and watching reviews saying that they're not really that good.
I mostly listen to rock, classical and acoustic style music, so i'm looking for headphones that will sound best with those types.
I mean, when i listened to the Beats, they sounded amazing, but is there something better that i can get for a better price?
could you be a little more specific?
because i keep hearing stuff like that "they're just fashion statements"
but when i listened to them, they sounded incredibly good.

Answer
Hi Eric. The Beats are not actually bad headphones. They're just vastly overpriced. If the Solos cost about $100 then they might be a good buy. But at $200? Nah... The thing is that most people who rave about the Beats have upgraded from stock iPod buds, or cheap Skullcandys, and yeah, the Beats will be vastly better. But that doesn't mean they're the best available for the money. Brands such as Shure, Grado, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica etc may not be as flashy and trendy, and they don't have celebrity names plastered all over them, but they make fantastic headphones for people who are really passionate about sound quality. If you can, get yourself to a store and compare the Beats to the Audio Technica ATH-M50s, the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II, or any Grados from the $80 SR60s upwards. I'm pretty sure you'll soon realize that the Beats aren't that good after all.

Headphone Question? (Sony vs. beats by dre?)?

Q. I already own the beats by dre tours, I got them as a birthday gift, but I want to own a pair of overhead headphones. (tours are earbuds) im not buying the $300-$400 beats cause Im on a $90 budget.

So i picked the sony xb700 extra bass headphones, are they really really bassy, btw im not going to buy any grados that are $1000, but I have read reviews about the xb700's and they get great reviews everytime.... So if you could tell me if there worth it? Im a basshead and i want these since they seem like there subwoofers around your ears.

The MDR-7506 is a large diaphragm foldable headphone designed for professional studio and
live/broadcast applications. They have become an industry standard in recording studios around the
world. Their full range sound and portability all add up to a great pair of cans!

The Sony MDR-7506 really is one of those headphones that some artists just flat out demand to have in the studio. Whether it's because they either don't know any other headphones, these are the most comfortable they ever used, or they determined after an exhaustive shootout that they perform better with a pair MDR-7506 on their heads, you just plain have to have a pair or two or more for your
professional studio
