On-ear headphones under $200?

Raygan

I'm looking for some on ear headphones under 200 dollars. I would like for them to be compact so I can carry them in my backpack, and not look goofy walking around with some huge headphones on my head. I've seen the beats, soul, sol and fanny wang's, but i've seen plenty of reviews stating how easy they broke. I know the music I listen to also really effects the kind I get, but I don't have any set genre I listen to. I mainly listen to hip-hop, pop, and country.
Thanks for the help,

Hey, ?

There are a wide selection of headphones available on the market currently, and for the most part, the quality of the sound and craftmanship will depend on the price that you are willing to spend. On the lower price range (less than $50), you will be able to find some no too shabby headphones that will be perfect for somebody that is just aiming to listen to music on their mp3 player or computer, and are not full fledged audiophiles. Once you get to the medium price range ($50-150), you will get a good selection of very high quality headphones that are going to be perfect for nearly everyone that is not involved with music professionally. The quality of these headphones will be suberb, should block out almost all background noise, and are going to be of a quality craftmanship that will last for a very long time. On the expensive side of things ($150 and up), you are going to get into professional quality sets. For the normal person this will be complete overkill as they provide a quality of sound that is unmatched, but is generally only sought after by professionals who are working on their own music (or the type of consumers who make sure that their house is hooked up with the best speaker systems on the market).

Depending on the amount you are willing to spend, my top five recommendations (from cheapest to most expensive) would be:

Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional

This model provides good insulation against background noise and has a solid bass range and response time. Perfect for somebody looking for an affordable set of quality headphones.

Sennheiser RS120

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-rs120/

These are quite affordable for wireless headphones. They feature an open-ear system with a strong bass response. Because they're wireless, you don't even have to be in the same room as the device that is transmitting the sound, giving you ultimate flexibility while listening to music. Very lightweight and a high quality. I have this set for using around my apartment.

Sennheiser HD280 Professional

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/sennheiser-hd-280-pro/

These are well into the midrange of quality headphones. This set is corded, but provides a much better sound quality than the RS120. They provide up to 32 dB attenuation of outside noise, so you do not have to worry about much from background noise, even in somewhat noisy environments.

Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/beats-by-dr-dre-solo-hd/

These are in the high-end spectrum of headphones. They are quite comfortable and produce a top-notched sound quality. If you're looking for something that is "in-style" and provides some of the best sound quality you can find at this price range, then these are the headphones for you.

Bose Quietcomfort 15

http://headphones.respectablereviews.com/bose-quietcomfort-15/

I use these when I am playing live venues. They are some of the best headphones you can get right now, are very comfortable while wearing for many hours at a time (even in hot, sweaty clubs), block out most background noise and provide nearly unmatched sound quality. For somebody looking for professional quality headphones, or with a big budget looking for the best money can buy, then these are the headphones for you.

Overall, the most important thing for choosing the headphones, is the think about what you will be using them for and do not over estimate how much quality you actually need. If you're looking for something to use to and from school or just while you're hanging out, listening to music, you probably do not need top of the line Bose. Good luck, ?, and I hope you find the perfect set!

What are the best headphones for $200?

Nll=Jll=Pl

So I have $200, and I want to buy a quality pair of headphones. I listen to mostly post-hardcore rock, and a little screamo. What would be the best headphones? I heard Nixon Mater Blasters would be good? Does anyone know about those headphones? If not, what would be the best pair for me to get?

Answer
Buying quality headphones is far from dumb. Why would anyone in their right mind spend hundreds on an iPod and then listen to it through $5 plastic headphones?

I've not heard of the headphones you mentioned, but a quick search on http://www.head-fi.org suggests that they're not bad headphones, but far from the best you can get for the money. Much like the Beats...

For $200, you can get some great headphones like the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II or the Audio Technica ATH-M50. I have the Sennheisers and they sound great. I think they'd be fantastic for the kind of music you like. I haven't actually heard the Audio Technicas (yet) but the reviews I've read suggest they're fantastic for the price (about $150). I've gotta go listen to them soon, but I might have to leave my credit card at home to avoid temptation...

If I were you I'd head over to http://www.head-fi.org and read reviews of the 'phones I've mentioned, plus the Nixons. You'll probably read about other recommended headphones that I forgot to mention. Once you have an idea of what you're interested in, you should head off to a shop somewhere so you can listen and compare. And whatever you decide to buy, enjoy it...
