Mp3 Headphones and Gaming Headphones the same?!!!?

Q. Everytime I try to buy some suround sound headphones, I see that most of the suround sound headphones are gaming headphones. Is that the same, can I remove the microphone that's attached to the headphones or am i just unlucky to find some nice headphones. What do you reccomand?

Answer
I'm not sure if you're looking for gaming headphones, headsets, or just awesome headphones. you didn't specify a price range either so here goes..

surround sound headphones are a joke. Instead get headphones that has a wide "soundstage".

However, headphones with good soundstages tend to be open headphones, making them non-ideal for public use since they leak sound out and in.

if you game with a console and headphones, i suggest the audio technica ad700 + astro mixamp.
example here(watch that video with headphones for a demonstration): http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-4-12-2012-akg-q701-added

if you game with a pc, then makes sure you have a good soundcard, external or not.

if you were just looking for regular headphones, the soundstage thing is the closest thing you will get to speaker sound on a headphone.

headphones with good soundstages: (most of these headphones are $200 and above)
beyerdynamic dt880/t1(open)
sennheiser hd558/598/700/800(open headphones)
akg q701(open headphones)
audio technica ad700(open headphones)
v-moda m-80 (closed headphones. good soundstage relative to other closed headphones, but not against open headphones ofc. also very portable/durable/stylish!)

Headphones!!! Suggestions!?

Carsmypets

Hi guys i am buying new headphones and dont know which one to buy
can u suggest some?

price range is (preferably) up t0 $100 but if absolutely nesecary will got up to 150( but lets not)!

So i like listening to Electronic, dubstep (UKF and Skirllex) and Alternative (Metal) (Linkin Park, Three days grace).

I am looking for headphones the isolate the outside noise (like all of it if possible), and have a removable cord, just in case the cord breaks. ( also i would like if they did not run on batteries, but if they do no problem)

I also want good frequency range and want them to sound amazing ( close to bose or beats)!!!

Well thank you and hope that you can help me !!! :D
Price RANGE UPDATE--- upto $120

Answer
i'm not an expert of budget stuff, so i recommend checking out:
http://www.head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide
and
http://www.head-fi.org/t/433318/shootout-101-portable-headphones-reviewed-skullcandy-mix-master-added-04-06-12
and
the rest of head-fi.
Use the search function. that site has the best info on headphones in the world. You will also see that they hate beats, bose, and most of the skullcandy line since they are overpriced for their sound quality.

honestly, a detachable cable on a good headphone is hard to find at that price. i can only recommend these headphones, all of which are over your price range, save more money perhaps?
audio technica m50
ultrasone hfi-580
v-moda m80(on ear, and has a detachable cable.)
