How to fix my headphones problem on my computer?

I have usb speakers sometimes i dont want them to be blasting all the time (they are very loud), so i pluged in my headphones (same headphones i use for my ipod) into the headphone jack and my sound was coming out of my speakers. I tried my headphones with my usb speakers out and still didnt work. when i go to my sound settings, it says that my headphones are disable! how do i enable them even if they are in? thanks

why does one ear bud of my expensive headphones continue to break?

im investing $80 in the new apple in-ear-headphones however i am worried because i feel one might break; do those headphones break easily. also why is it that my headphones keep breaking by one ear bud not working? am i doing something wrong???

Answer
Don't buy Apple In-Ear's.

They are very low quality and easily beaten by different brands.

If you have $80,

also Sennheiser 300's are awesome and $15
