which headphones are best?

Define "best".
The Grado headphones will sound better than the Beats. But they're better suited for listening at home in a quiet environment since they're open-backed headphones and as such offer little to no isolation from external noise.
Beats will offer better isolation, or active cancellation if you go for the Studios. But they're not the best sounding headphones in the world. They're kinda plasticky and gaudy and, in my opinion, vastly overpriced.
You can get both isolation and good sound quality - I use Bowers & Wilkins P5 or Sennheiser HD 25-1 II which both sound great and block out plenty of external sound. Other good 'uns include the Audio Technica ATH-M50, Denon 2000, Phiaton MS400 etc etc etc
If I were you I'd check out reviews of the headphones I've mentioned on http://www.head-fi.org . I;m sure some of these reviews will mention other alternatives that I neglected to mention.

Question concerning Headphones (Skullcandy vs Grado)?

Hey guys, im 18 and looking to make my first purchase on headphones. Ive been doing a lot of research and ive seen more then a few people say skullcandy is over-rated. Ive also come across many people saying how amazing the Grado SR-60i headphones are. i like to listen to various kinds of music from Zeppelin to Dubstep. I was wondering if the Grados would be good for the dubstep side of things.
(If i went with skullcandy i'd probably go with either hesh or agent)
Keep in mind im moving from your typical I-pod ear buds to one of these options, so ive never had experience with any good headphones.
So my basic question is, is Skullcandy really over-rated? and should i go with the Grado SR-60i over Hesh or Agent? Would the Grado really be good for me?
Also if anyone has any other budget suggestion im willing to hear it, because the more and more i look Skullcandy seems to be highly over hyped. Any good Sennheisers?

grados are great for rock. dubstep, not so much because they lack sub-bass.(unless you listen to just skrillex. his songs have almost no sub-bass). Keep in mid grados have no isolation and everyone will hear your music due to their (very) open design. The only way they could leak more is if the drivers were facing forward, and even THATS debatable (lol).
skullcandy headphones are all terribad except for the aviators and the mixmasters, which are actually decent, but still not that great.
